SNSUN Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 He's proved he can be an effective Premier League player that can score goals at this level. And he's a fans favourite. It won't happen. Even if it did the transfer fee would have to be near extortion for a player his age and we'd have to bring in one or two top quality replacements. I'm not concerned. angelman Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 Saying we'll sell if we land Leandro. This might be true, but as we have little chance of signing Leandro, so if this is the case, RL won't be going.
Cabrone Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 Not a chance IMO. Even if we signed Damiao or Osvaldo Ricky would still make a brilliant 'Sherringham' type foil for them plus he would make a great back up main striker if the new boy was injured. RL still has plenty to give to this club so unless NC signs at least 2 quality forwards I really can't see it.

RobM Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 Lambert to Reading Agreed. The first option is two top quality players moving to the best league in the world, to a team investing heavily in talent and the future, who seem to pay good wages. The second option is a Premiership player and fans favourite dropping down a level in every possible regard.

Smirking_Saint Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 We would have sold last year if we signed adequate replacements. This year ? I doubt it unless we get an offer we cant refuse, IF we sign a big name forward he wont get the games he did last season, MoPo is looking like he wants a fluid front line and Rickie cant play that way. That said, he can play in the hole or up top so as I said, it wont happen unless its a decent offer and we have replacements. I find it funny though that some believe we can sign some mega names but dismiss stories like this out of hand.
pap Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 I met a mate of Rickie's the other day. While I don't consider this outside the realms of possibility ( hey, we might really have bigger targets ) I'd be gutted if he went, and a little surprised if he did. From the account given by his mate, he seems to be very happy at Southampton. While I recognise that there are better strikers out there, I'd hoped that Rickie would drop back between the main striker and the centre mids. Think he can play there for years. Professor Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 This has every appearance of a local paper manufacturing a football story to fill space. Sad isn't it that Basingstoke, that once was a Hampshire town before the planners had most of it demolished to build an ugly post-war monstrosity on the site, has to look over the border to Berkshire for football interest. KelvinsRightGlove Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 Who saw Grant Holt leaving Norwich for relegated Wigan?... Considering they signed Ricky van Wolfswinkel, and have been linked with numerous other strikers - such as Hooper, it's not all that surprising. He didn't seem to be all that happy last season. Might well be his only chance to kick a ball in Europe too.

Viking Warrior Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 Jam you are taking life too seriously , I suppose you believe the story about lambert to the Royals. One of the methods of communicating from one officer to another in the trenches of the present great war is to give the message to one of the privates and tell him to pass the word along the line until it reached its destination, viz., the officer at the other end. The following story will show how a serious message can be distorted on its journey from mouth to mouth:— Lieutenant A., in charge of one end of the British line told the private in front to pass the word along to Lieutenant B.: “We are going to advance, can you send us reinforcements?” When Lieutenant B. received the message it was like this: “We are going to a dance, can you lend us three and fourpence?” Hey I will lampoon editors and journos , I saw a BBC headline Optical express have eyes for a new future. Okay its a pun by the beeb however the Journos do embellish their stories to sell more papers etc
egg Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 II'd hoped that Rickie would drop back between the main striker and the centre mids. Think he can play there for years. So in Gaston's number 10 position? A position that is arguably Lallana's best too. While I think that lambert is arguably a better 10 than 9 in the Prem I think there's little chance of him playing that role ahead of Gaston or Lallana. He may be all of those things and we know how important he is to us but the question is does MP think that? We are linked to some Quality strikers/borderline world class, how do you know what approach MP is going to take next season he may want to have a pacy attack, and as great RL is that is something he lacks,he may be building a team around Gaston and he wants somebody with a bit of pace that can beat the last man and get through on goal!! It's a valid story - Adkins can ASK, there's nothing to stop him doing that and I'd imagine that's as far as this would go. It's probably equivalent to Saints asking/enquiring about Rooney to be honest - we may be able to afford the transfer, but not the wages and he'd be unwilling you'd presume to "step down".
