SaintRichmond Posted 21 July, 2013 Share Posted 21 July, 2013 Norwich have indicated that they did NOT make a concrete offer of £10 M for Victor, and Neil Lennon has confirmed this. Psycrow Posted 21 July, 2013 Share Posted 21 July, 2013 If the shoe was on the other foot, Cardiff had gotten VW and our chairman said that, the reaction wouldn't be "Did Cardiff get screwed?" It would be "Our chairman is such a sore loser". I don't mean that about NC in particular. I just mean that fans of a team tend to pick apart the news about their own club only. News from other clubs is taken at face value and not looked into or thought about very much. Sometimes its good to stand back and look at the bigger picture. Firstly, of course it was Cardiff and not Norwich .... my mistake for which I apologise My "point" was that Cardiff are/were now saying that they did not make a "firm" bid of £19M At the time, it was mooted that they had made such a bid, and also, around that time, we are supposed to have "upped" our bid to 12.5M (Many on here said the £0.5M was a way out of the Agent's greedy finger scenario ) In light of Cardiff now saying that they were not in the bidding, I then posed the question "was NC conned by Lennon ? "

It would be more likely that NC would have been dealing with whoever the chairman/chief exec is at Celtic. So no Lennon did not con NC. Either way, no one at sfc was conned by cfc. It's gone from he's the best in the world to we were conned. Some are saying that he'll have a huge impact and we'll sell him to a "top" club for £20 million plus after a great season at St. Marts. I think that he will be successful and be worth the money in the long term but could turn out to be phenomenal and be worth 3 times what we paid for him. Fan The Flames Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 The whole point of ths BBC story is that Tann is casting aspersions on Celtic by saying their bid for £10m was acepted only for Celtic to keep upping the price. Saint86 Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 Don't understand the issue here. We outbid cardiff and their chairman (A.K.A. Tanny Boy) was left holding his pathetic weener in a cock fight with the Don's stallion sized equipment. After loosing (never really being in the game) to the better man he is now trying to save his blushes. I like what it says about us to be honest. We wanted to player and we pushed out our rivals... Get used to it, or would you rather sit here and have the "moral high ground" because plucky saints refused to match one of the big boys for a player? Seriously, the sooner the summer ends and the season starts the better it will be. So many bed wetter threads by far.
VectisSaint Posted 22 July, 2013 Share Posted 22 July, 2013 It's an odd one, as it's not as if Saints didn't know they were paying 12m. That was the price, they thought it was worth it. Their judgement may be right or wrong, but they certainly weren't conned. If they'd sold us a secret identical twin with no football experience, it would be a con. So lets discuss the Forren transfer then, seems like it might have fitted with this scenario.

Their judgement may be right or wrong, but they certainly weren't conned. If they'd sold us a secret identical twin with no football experience, it would be a con. How about a secret cousin with no football experience? Still not sure what the point is from the OP here. Time will tell whether he is a good player or not and whether he is worth the transfer fee, but that is a truism regarding any transfer. Why don't we actually watch him play a few games for us before remarking on whether Cortese has been 'conned' or not? I don't think the Cardiff bid had much to do with us raising the price if that is what you are stating. It was rejected after ours was initially accepted. Our bid was then only increased to satisfy the demands of the agent, independent of the fee previously agreed with Celtic. I think Celtic handled themselves really well in this transfer and any critism of Lennon - who was was pretty damn graceful about the whole thing and us a club - is actually quite unfair.
