Saint_clark Posted 20 July, 2013 Share Posted 20 July, 2013 It's a meaningless friendly. I haven't heard anyone say any different? If the result was reversed I bet it wouldn't be so meaningless to certain people.

Saint-Armstrong Posted 20 July, 2013 Author Share Posted 20 July, 2013 Tom Coull from the media department has said... - There was a pitch invasion by the Saints fans when Guly scored his 1st (there were 50 to 75 fans) - An announcement was made to tell Southampton fans to get off - They had two more invasions - One at full-time, a dash for Guly!!! The goal of this curious note was the small field of invasion sector of Saints fans, who had a bit too high a dose of alcohol.

Saint Charlie Posted 21 July, 2013 Share Posted 21 July, 2013 Some excellent finishing and play around the box, albeit against weak opposition. Re Guly, he always works hard, and isn't a bad player, but this friendly just indicates he have a decent squad, he won't start many league games I wouldn't think. To echo others, Palamos got 1v 1 twice and both were as a result of Lovren being turned easily.

Charlie Wayman Posted 21 July, 2013 Share Posted 21 July, 2013 Let's not get ahead of ourselves just because we won 8-0 against a pub team but there is every sign that we are going to walk the PL this season without losing to equal Arsenal's feat a few years ago, Guly is going to star as our new main striker and Isgrove will play for England alongside Clyne, Shaw and Lallana
Mallagroth Posted 21 July, 2013 Share Posted 21 July, 2013 Just came onto post the same thing.I know its pre-season etc etc but he got turned and left for dead twice in the highlights. so the guy made two mistakes in a 45 minute friendly match and the 5 minutes of highlights didnt show him doing anything useful... I agree let's hang the ****er. I can never get my head around how many of our fans expect sheer perfection from every saints player in every match. It wasn't like this before prem, we seemed to be a lot more supportive of our team, fair enough if someone consistently is making **** ups game after game, but cmon give them a chance. It may be the prem and expectations need to be higher etc, but everyone is going to make a mistake here and there and people need to realise it. just like people calling for 15g Lambert to be replaced with another striker because he wasn't at his goal scoring best in a few matches at the end of the season. The bloke was still setting up countless chances. I wonder if it's because his work wasn't shown as the most exciting thing on a 5min BBC highlight reel... Olallana Posted 21 July, 2013 Share Posted 21 July, 2013 Unfortunately all the good defensive displays during a game rarely get on the highlight video.... Either way I hope Maya is ready to play very soon so he and Lovren can start building a partnership and it looked like Lovren was playing the left side of the two CB's which is not his preferable side. SWF has taught me NOT to judge a player until he's played 2 seasons minimum or after he is sold or released. In fairness these pre-season games are not the time to judge or review players
