Saint-Armstrong Posted 19 July, 2013 Share Posted 19 July, 2013 V Kick-Off: 18:00 BST - (19:00 local time) Who are Palamós CF? Palamós CF means Palamós Club de Futbol. They are a Catalan football team from the small town of Palamós in Catalunya, a commercial port in the well-known Costa Brava. A 2001 census found that just under 16,000 people inhabit the town. The football club was established in 1898, making it the oldest club in Catalunya and one of the oldest in the entire Spanish league structure. Football was taken to Palamós by Gaspar Matas, who had been studying in England and formed the club on his return. Their first proper fixture came against a team of Englishmen who came to Palamós by boat. Palamós have spent the majority of their history in the fourth tier of Spanish football, which is where they are currently found. The Tercera Division is one division below previous opponents UE Llagostera. Since the formation of the current league structure, they have spent 6 seasons in the Segunda Division, 4 seasons in Segunda Division B and 14 seasons in the Tercera Division. Perhaps their most famous former player is David Belenguer, who went on to sign for Albacete, Extremadura, Celta Vigo, Real Betis on two occasions and Getafe - for whom he appeared over 150 times, including in La Liga. The club spent six consecutive seasons in the Segunda Division before incurring a two-division relegation as punishment for financial irregularities in 1995. They have contested two Catalunya Cup Finals, winning one and losing one. In the 1991/92 season they defeated UE Lleida 2-1. However, in the 1994/1995 final they lost to RCD Espanyol, who had signed Mauricio Pochettino in 1994, by a scoreline of 3-1. Palamós finished 3rd in their league last season. Using our league structure, they are the equivalent of a League Two side. Where do they play? Palamós play at the Estadio Nou Municipal, in Palamós. The ground is capable of holding just over 8,000 supporters. What are the club colours? Palamós' club colours are yellow and blue. They have sported numerous variations on yellow and blue stripes and halves in recent seasons. This season they are wearing a yellow shirt with a thick blue stripe, with blue underarms. This is accompanied by blue shorts and yellow socks. Again, I hope you found this quick post on Palamós interesting.

Matthew Le God Posted 19 July, 2013 Share Posted 19 July, 2013 (edited) Good opening post again, but I'd question this... Using our league structure, they are the equivalent of a League Two side. As tiers 3 and 4 in Spain are regionalised and have numerous leagues in each tier they would be below League Two. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_football_league_system They play in a Catalonia league, with 6 leagues above them, and 17 leagues equal to the league they are in. SNSUN Posted 19 July, 2013 Share Posted 19 July, 2013 This lot can afford seats for their team photo, have a half decent stand and have stripes on their shirts. They're clearly an upgrade on Llagostera. :-) (Covers all bases lest we lose.)

Seriously, what is your problem? He makes a valid point even if its nitpicking. I you don't care, just ignore it but if your going to evaluate the performacnce in the match it might be useful to know if its League Two or Conference North/South we're talling about. VectisSaint Posted 20 July, 2013 Share Posted 20 July, 2013 I didn't realise MLG was so well-versed on the Spanish lower divisions. Is there really anything he doesn't know? Maybe he just takes the time to find things out rather than just making things up like some do on here. It was a valid point he made, our opposition today are probably at best the same level as Salsibury or Eastleigh, rather than Skatesmuff.

I'd disagree, he revels in correcting people for the smallest factual mistake and will never concede he's wrong, even when he blatantly is. Or better still, has a serious problem with accepting people with differing opinions.
VectisSaint Posted 20 July, 2013 Share Posted 20 July, 2013 (edited) I'd disagree, he revels in correcting people for the smallest factual mistake and will never concede he's wrong, even when he blatantly is. Or better still, has a serious problem with accepting people with differing opinions. Others do similar things and are usually just as factually incorrect (if not more so) but because its MLG some people just criticise for the sake of it as happened here. In this case he was factually completely correct and it was a point worth making, the difference between League 2 and Conference South is quite large, so it wasn't really nit-picking at all. The OP was excellent and MLG added valid point including complementing the OP. If we had more discussion on here like this it might become worthwhile again, but instead when someone makes a valid point they get jumped on and insulted. Far rather get this sort of response than the crap we have to put up with from the trolls/WUMs who have wrecked this place and yet who seem to be tolerated by the Mods presumably because they are their mates. Ocassionally it is worth recognising that someone who you may dislike has made a valid point rather than just insult him simply because of who he is (not aiming this at you, you were not the one who jumped down his throat).
