View From The Top Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Alas just not Saints doing it. Stoke have just announced that they will use part of their revenue increase to supply free coach travel to every away game acknowledging that cost are becoming too high for ordinary folk. Now that would be a fantastic gesture if our club did the same.
ant Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Given that the alternative company's coach travel was dirt cheap last year, I imagine the club wouldn't take much of a hit if they organised something like this. Good initiative.

Olallana Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Do they supply free neck collars to the ones travelling?? (of course it´s a great gesture though)
MongoNeil Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 I live nearish to Stoke, I wonder if I could use their travel to get to Southampton for the Stoke game ;-)
hutch Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Playing more attractive football so the fans are willing to pay for their own travel would be an even better gesture.
Graffito Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Good gesture and a sensible initiative as the extra backing could be worth a few points to them, important points that translate into income.
Saint86 Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 I assume that I would need to get to Southampton (Fro Bristol) to get any benefit of this. I feel the club need to support those with season tickets and a 100 mile journey to get to the ground as well as just those who go to the away matches. Keep dreaming i guess
Toomer Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 No thanks, I would not want to watch all of Stoke's away games even if the coach travel was free. Should that read, I would not want to watch any!
Golden Balls Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Great gesture and nice that they recognise how expensive away days are for fans. Can't see us taking that on though. Shame.
Saints foreva Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Great gesture, something Cortese would never consider though.
Doctoroncall Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Is that going to be for the forthcoming season only or when the costs come down to an acceptable level? Fantastic gesture, it'll be interesting to see how long it lasts.
beatlesaint Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Would be great.....but don't hold your breath waiting.
scotty Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Stoke are having to pacify the fanbase, thats all. Their fans have been fed a diet of horrible football for so long now they've been almost completely alienated. This gesture will cost the club next to nothing and go a long way towards getting the fans back onside.

Not one person I know, even the ardent critics of Pulis, have failed to renew.
Saint_clark Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Cortese has always spoken about maximising revenue streams to keep the club in as healthy a position as possible, they might offer free travel to a few games but not for the whole season.
Saint Mikey Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 I feel the club need to support those with season tickets and a 100 mile journey to get to the ground as well as just those who go to the away matches. Keep dreaming i guess Why? You decide to live in Bristol. It's not the club's fault you've decided to move, or if you've always lived there - decided to support a club miles away. Should the club fund all ex-pats whenever they fancy watching a game?
View From The Top Posted 19 July, 2013 Author Posted 19 July, 2013 Failed to renew what? Travel tickets to away games? STs.
St_Tel49 Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 I live nearish to Stoke, I wonder if I could use their travel to get to Southampton for the Stoke game ;-) Pity we don't wear red and white stripes at the moment or you could have blended in
Fan The Flames Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 So Stoke away matches will have more wrinklys, students and middled aged simpletons at away matches next year.
Griffo Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 If Saints did this for free I'd still get the train. Stoke are just effectively making every away game a bubble trip of sorts.
wild-saint Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 You what? I teach in Stoke and they are utterly onside. Not one person I know, even the ardent critics of Pulis, have failed to renew. really both of them?
raynesparksaint Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 Nice gesture. However, I can't actually remember a single spectacular Stoke away performance since they have been in the PL.
Ziggy Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 You what? I teach in Stoke and they are utterly onside. Not one person I know, even the ardent critics of Pulis, have failed to renew. Absolutely. I work in Tamworth with loads of Stoke fans and they are all completely behind the team.
dickyhale Posted 19 July, 2013 Posted 19 July, 2013 No thanks, I would not want to watch all of Stoke's away games even if the coach travel was free. Your loss............Great gesture. Some thing for nothing, thought right up your street
ericofarabia Posted 20 July, 2013 Posted 20 July, 2013 Why? You decide to live in Bristol. Should the club fund all ex-pats whenever they fancy watching a game?[/QUOTE] Too bloody right they should. Minimum requirement would be Business Class on an Emirates A380 Dubai - Manchester, obviously 1st Class would be better but I am prepared to rough it a bit, and as a sign of appreciation I'd even pay my own way from Manchester to the away ground
Pilchards Posted 20 July, 2013 Posted 20 July, 2013 It's not free as Cortese will charge £5 a head for the coach parking at our stadium.
mcjwills Posted 20 July, 2013 Posted 20 July, 2013 It's not free as Cortese will charge £5 a head for the coach parking at our stadium. If the coach was free feck it I'd happily pay the fiver parking charges.
