Late transfers vs early transfers

Thanks for the thread idea from Nick on TUI

Contrast and compare last summers activity against success :

Early Summer Signings :

J-Rod

Clyne

Late Summer Signings :

Ramirez

Mayuka

Combined with all the "Gaston didnt have a pre-season to settle" b*ll*cks being used on here as an excuse for his indifferent first season.

I rest my case m'lud.....

Rickie Lambert was signed on the 11th August. Just sayin like.

Don't spoil his fun, he ain't got a clue.

I also seem to remember a thread on whether or not JRod was worth it or not as many thought it was a waste of money. Again, happily ignored by the OP.

In all seriousness, surely Alpine is joking and just winding us all up. I expect he's sat there laughing to himself at how easy everyone is to wind up. No one could actually seriously post that and expect to gain any kind of credibility could they?

You've absolutely summed up your thought process. i.e. no desire for actual research or debate.

It could be an interesting topic, but you'd immediately need to look at all clubs over a period of years. Why have you destroyed your own point by making it so limited?

You then have to consider the concept of choice. This seems to be missing in your posts every summer, despite being the most obvious factor involved - do clubs CHOOSE to sign players late? Of course not. Unless I'm missing something?? If it's not a choice, then why is it a debate?

More importantly perhaps - are you saying Clyne, JRod, or any other successful early signings at any club would have been less successful if signed in August? Does that not seem slightly odd? They would still be the same player with the same ability and same personality.

It hasn't registered for 10 years but let's try again:

1) EVERY FAN AND CLUB WOULD LOVE THEIR SIGNINGS TO BE WRAPPED UP EARLY

2) NO-ONE HAS EVER SUGGESTED IT WOULDN'T BENEFIT THE TEAM GETTING IT FINISHED EARLY

3) FOOTBALL CLUBS DO NOT SIT BACK AND DELAY TRANSFERS FOR A LAUGH

The attitude just seems to be one of childish impatience. I want this and I want it now or not at all. But whatever you think of me, however little respect you have for other posters, research, objectivity, if you're genuinely interested in starting such a thread, you need to look at all clubs and a longer time frame with an open mind. If you can't or won't do that, then close the thread.

*standing ovation*

One had 26 league appearances and 5 goals one had 33 league appearances and 6 goals. From that a skilful observer of football can clearly see that one is brilliant and the other is ****, hhhhhmmmmmm.

Ah ha! But the first one cost twice as much, so obviously he should've had 66 appearances and 12 goals!

alpine you might need to consider doing a "Delldays" and coming back as a new user?

Jamie ala Batman ala delldays has rebranded himself as mr boring and doesnt get the forum abuse he got daily as delldays.

Outspoken posters like me, you, 110%, turkish, dalek, barry sanchez ect just get followed about by the forum "bully boys" who just post personal insult after insult after insult.

The brat pack as they are reffered = saint_clark, Smirking_Saint, crab lungs, Saint Garrett + rat pack wannabes Olallana + batman/delldays

I notice they follow you to every thread & every post too. #sad

Top trolling alps.

The answer to the question you've posed is actually that both good and bad signings can be made both early and late in the transfer window.

Generally, however, a highly regarded player will have multiple offers, and will want to consider their options before making a decision. I.e. generally only less well regarded players move earlier, unless they feel that the offer that they have received is better than they could hope to obtain elsewhere.

As such, early window transfers tend to either be players nobody else wants, or players who have been offered contacts (or opportunities)nobody else is willing/able to match. In other words, if we want to compete for players above our current level we will normally have to wait until later in the window.

Hope that helps

So why no mention of Yoshida who was hugely successful (as long as he played at CB) but signed later than Mayuka? Clyne was hardly early either as he signed on 19 July, i.e. a year ago to the day.

You still show a complete lack of understanding of the operations of the transfer market and still try to make points that are nonsense when allied to the facts. Gaston was OK, not outstanding, but you can hardly say he is rubbish and contributed positively in several games. Mayuka I agree with, Bambi on ice whenever he has briefly played, has shown nothing to make me think he will fit in or contribute even this season.

Rickie Lambert was signed on the 11th August. Just sayin like.

Needs a good pre-season but will probably come good eventually if we persevere.

Actually he signed on the 10th and scored on his debut the following day against Northampton, so clearly the later signed and with no time to think or gel with team-mates the better, at least that would Alpine's logic. Can I add one of those face-palm thingies here or are they now forbidden?

Wow. This post just takes the biscuit, the whole cake in fact. One of the most moronic posts i've ever read. Let me guess, we're also going to struggle this year.

Presumably you have had Alps on ignore before then, this is fairly standard for one of his posts. I don't put him on ignore because I enjoy a good laugh.

So where are Boruc, Yoshida, Gazzaniga, Steven Davis? Were they early or late? I need to know so i can decide if they were utterly sh*t last term or otherwise fabulous, I'm taking a strictly black and white approach to next season's thinking.

We signed Lambert after pre season and actually after the first game.

He turned out alright? Van Persie joined utd a few days before the 1st game and he did OK?

When you sign them has no baring on how well they will do. If you look for negatives you will find them. But this one is bull****.
