No not our transfer policy.

The players

Jordan Sibley ‏@jordansibley 40m Walking on fire is definitely one of the craziest things I have had to cover. Here is @Luke_shaw3 giving it a go... pic.twitter.com/0rUHGymL5L

Lights blue touch paper and says Is this wise?

Does seem a tad dangerous team bonding exercise for sportsmen that rely on their feet somewhat...

I don't really get this walk on fire stuff. Sure you can mentally prepare to block out the pain but the body has to react to being burned.

It's simple, wood isn't a good conductor of heat (like say metal), and your feet aren't good conductors either. If you stand still on the coals it will burn but in the brief instant when your feet are touching the coals not enough heat can transfer from the wood to your feet to burn you.

Some people take life far to seriously, it's just a team bonding exercise. Do you really think they would do it if players ended up with burnt feet and unable to play!

woosh :)

Think it's brilliant, the Video is great and the pictures of the faces show a different side to what we are used to seeing in the land of media management

Now waiting for the Hypno Show & seeing SRL turned into a Chicken & Boruc & JP doing the Martian Wedding gag

Basic physics , there is no threat

Went to a recording of an programme at our univesity and they were showing people 'firewalking' after doing meditation. They then asked our professor of physics, how on earth they could do such a thing. He explained clearly about conduction being low so their feet were not at risk.

'so you could do it then?' posed the slightly miffed presenter

'certainly' he said and this octogenarian took of his shoes and actually shuffled through the coals at a much slower rate than the firewalkers

I never worried about whether the players would get burnt feet (trust MP more than that) and wasn't ever moaning about it being "dangerous" team bonding fun! I was merely trying to get my head around why the body doesn't burn when placed on hot coals. Thanks to some informative posters I am now suitably enlightened. Cheers.

The Daily Fail are at it again just been sent text to tell me

They have just carved the globe up and moved Spain from south west Europe into Asia

Not sure if its even a good enough paper to house train a puppy with

erm ..... you might want to re read the 1st paragraph (unless you rate us as "PREMIER LEAGUE HEAVYWEIGHTS")

"As Premier League heavyweights have the eye of millions upon them as they tour Asia, SOUTHAMPTON ARE OUT IN SPAIN preparing for the new season, but doing more than just playing football"

Play the ball, not the man.

As probably shown on an episode of How from the 70's starring superskate Fred Dineage!!

Here is a fine example of what the yoof of today are missing out on!!

Did this a year or so back for charity, although I don't like to talk about it.

I was genuinely amazed at how powerful the experience was; akin to a bungee jump for adrenaline release.

Breaking an arrow on my throat was rather cool too, only a few of us in the group did that.

But really, the fire walk itself came at the end of what was an hour or so of a very good motivational talk by an ex SAS chap. I can remember a lot of what we were taught and have used it since.

I should imagine what this is about too, all pretty standard science and motivational thinking, but done like this it really was very empowering.

To be fair to the Daily Fail (can't believe I'm defending the pile of ****) it is the BBC who have gaffed. In their Gossip Column they have linked to the Daily Fail article with the following words:

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino led his players in a walk across hot coals as the squad continued their pre-season preparations in Asia with some bizarre team-building exercises.
