Gaston set for Inter?

Which of course can me completely nothing at all

Quite. Hence "If AM really were close to signing him".....

Odd though that when Sky Italia were writing about Gaston possibly leaving Bologna for Saints it was lapped up and turned out to be true. When the same source writes something about him leaving Saints.....

smirkig saint you have opened pandoras box

Re why Boruc hasnt won many headers this year

This is bloody awful, whose our heading coach ? They should be sacked for not getting the best out of boruc:)

I've long thought we should play an inferior keeper, and keep Boruc on the bench as an impact goalie for the last 15 minutes if we're losing.

Odd nothing, I take any media reports with a pinch of salt until I hear of anything from a more official source.

No it doesn't. It means that some journo made five out of adding two and two and then attempted to save face by insinuating that it was virtually a done deal until Ramirez said he didn't wish to leave. If that journo had taken the trouble to go back a month or two, he would have realised that Ramirez had made his position clear then and he could have saved himself the embarassment of making himself look like a prat.

A prat like someone writing off paper reports of Adkins sacking and Poch's appointment merely hours before it happened? That kind of prat?

The club replied to my tweet asking when he was expected in Spain saying he was due there this weekend. Be interesting to see if he does show. That article the other day suggests he is going to be so fingers crossed.

Gaston has plenty of talent and I look forward to being proved wrong and am happy to eat my own words should he do so but I've never seen anyone more lightweight on the ball simply faling over at the faintest of tackles or running straight into trouble and losing posession he makes Lallana look strong and gave the ball away more than any other player

Of course he will show. This Inter link has already been denied by Sky Italia.

Hope he will play well and end all the various drivel written about him on here.

good spot. With some players you can see straight away that they have `it'. Whether they develop is another matter, but why Saints fans want rid of genuine talent before it has been given time to blossom is beyond me.

Funnily enough some same posters couldn't see his ability and wanted him out....

I think it is an absolute disgrace to be mentioning Ramirez in the same sentence as MLT.

MLT was already single-handedly burying the opposition long before he reached Ramirez's age.

Talent means nothing if you cannot properly channel it/use it.

Hopefully Gaston next season improves on MLT record at the same age.. MLT aged 23, Played 36, 6 goals and as more forward player ;)

MLT early seasons included returns of 6, 0, 9, 6 goals. Bet you are glad there weren't match day threads then which would be haunting you now! :)

The vast majority of Saints fans were caught out by that one, so most of us were prats by your definition. But let's take another case more recent. Shaw was going to Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, City and we were assured by several journos that they were all done deals.

But talking about prats, how about you giving us your predictions in advance as to the situation between Man Utd and West Ham for this coming season?

Do you think that West Ham will be

a) As likely as Man Utd to go down

b) Less likely than Man Utd to go down

c) More likely than Man Utd to go down

Or would you prefer to wait until sufficient time has passed during the season so that it is clear that United going down is a mathematical impossibility?

Which 'United' are you referring to in that last sentence? :-)

I just hope he stays and we get him to play at the level he has shown he is capable of. At Bologna he was highest( or v close to highest the previous season) in serie A for dribbling success and fouls provoked. To me it suggests he was given an open licence to do that- take ball, run with it, make something happen - and he showed that in some early games for us. Andit was something Saints certainly needed. But little by little he changed into a more orthodox, or more disciplined if you like, player, less risky but more reliable, especially defensively. And it seemed to blunt his highest level skill and he clearly wasn't physically able to play 90 minutes, or equally importantly, by 70 minutes we needed a better defender on the pitch to hold what we had at that point- as if GR was part of our" offence" team to use American football jargon, whereas Davis etc was part of a more " defensive" team. Almost at the same time we saw the rise of JRod as the player who got the ball and went running with it to try and make something happen. Coincidence? He was not playing that way early season out on the wing but from an inside forward kind of position he started making mazy runs and shooting lots, just exactly what we thought we were going to be getting from GR. I've not thought through why that was yet but I think there's a connection in there somewhere....does anyone else see this phenomenon in that light?

I for one hope we don't sell Gaston. Contrary to his indifferent season he's still a talented young individual and he'll be important to us this coming season if we want to realise our ambitions of a top ten finish. That said if it's for a profit, and we replace him PROPERLY with a couple of quality attacking options, I wouldn't be completely against the decision. As it stands though, one more attacking midfielder (and of course one more striker) and I'd be completely chuffed with our attacking options. Any other signings would be a bonus - for instance we're still a tad light in defence, but not so bad we can't cope until January.

There was an interesting Stat posted last season in the Daily Fail regarding different ways of measuring the most valuable player at each PL club. The measure they created was the points "earnt" while different players were on the pitch.

Gaston was our highest rated player.

I certainly have no wish to see him leave. Many of the passes the effort types on here moan about being wasted were tight and creative attempts to split a defence with the final ball. Something that we badly missed from the likes of Puncheon last year.

Having Rickie drop deep to hold the ball up gave us a lot of options last year, and yet it often gave us few options for a quick "defence splitting pass" as our other floating strikers were still getting into position and SRL was not around to pick up a through pass and score

Having someone good enough to actually get on the end of one of Gaston's passes was the thing I was MOST looking forward to this coming season.

Let's hope MP un-coaches the drop deep and defend mentality Giordano seems to have noticed and he defends higher up this year.

GR in some ways reminds me of Charlie George when he first arrived - he was simply too good for the other players around him, thinking faster than them. It took a while but he and the others caught on and we then played some great stuff, but in his early days (pre-lawnmowers) people moaned about him

Ramirez was given extra time off BY THE CLUB, a he played until the penultimate day in the Confederations cup.

Surely its common sense to let a player have a decent holiday to recharge his batteries as its not good for the player or the club if the burn out early in the season.

Apolgies man enough to admit when I've jumped the gun wish the article had filled me in properly. And to the poster below I don't hate Ramirez I said he was talented just not using it well so far

Not sure if new news http://www.football-italia.net/36643/agent-ramirez-happy-inter think his agent enjoys being busy.

Pretty sure those Dortmund rumors from a few weeks ago Pochettino denied that ended when Ramirez said he wanted to stay were started by his agent in an interview with tuttomercatoweb. He's also the agent of Gonzalo Bueno, who we have been linked with for weeks mostly due to this agent saying we want him in interviews.

Fairplay to the agent, basically saying Gaston has made a commitment to us and if Inter want him they will have to pay us big.

Nothing wrong with that, he only in Italy flogging Bueno anyway so is bound to be in the papers.

Like you say, didn't actually see too much wrong with his comments. He's not suggesting the player wants to move or that there is any concrete interest, only that he would have to evaluate if a big enough offer came in. If Inter were interested last year and couldn't stump up the cash then they are even more unlikely to be in a position to do so now, as I can't see Cortese selling him for just what we originally paid. Bit of a non-story this.

Furthermore, if they couldn't afford him last year, not being in the CL this year certainly won't help.

I like they way the agent states "if we get a good offer we will consider it." Er...you forgot that the club first has to accept an offer before YOU can receive an offer. Or is there a clue there.....could there be a big club clause minimum fee?
