Gaston set for Inter?

I despair at some Saints fans. Ramírez was absolutely fantastic at home to Villa. I wonder if some of those writing him off were actually at that game. Anyway, shortly after that he got the dead leg injury, which I am convinced held his development back for a long time. He is also just one of those players that takes a while to settle in anyway, plus moving to the Premier League's 180mph style must have seemed a bit of a culture shock after the laid back approach of Serie A.

One significant thing to think about is that Saints history is littered with players that took a while to settle in, then showed their worth. In recent days, is there any better example than Puncheon?

Patience. He will come good and Inter can just clear off empty handed.

It would be madness to let him go unless there are massive sell on/performance clauses.

He is our most talented player for me. To lose him so soon would be madness.

Just because he hasn't performed to his full potential it doesn't mean he will not eventually. It's Inter Milan that want him as they rebuild their team.... not a bunch of randoms. That says a lot for me.

Gaston is a class player, but perhaps he simply just has not settle here for some reason (too many idiots on his back?) and just perhaps he's asked to be sold if the opportunity comes along? Perhaps if the Banega deal happens, that would be his 'release clause'? Shame is so - I will always remember him as our first real class signing on the way back up thru' the leagues.

think 35M for Carroll

I've held that thought for a while and I've got to do it, sorry. -

As for Gaston, keep for another season and see if class or fragility win out. Hopefully the former, but gotta be honest I'm not that confident.

Wow. Divisive topic. Some considered comments. Some by obvious wums who think they are wittier than they actually are.

For those that want him to go irrespective- first of all how come that no mark team Inter Milan fancy our player? Secondly how come they think he might be worth 10m after what by all accounts was a bad season with saints? They must be mad or idiots right? Or maybe you are? Which? Or both? Is he really worth 10m now despite being supposedly worse than anyone in our transfer history? Are we lucky to get such mugs to want this hopeless player?

Feel sorry for our next flair player tbh. And if he goes and AL does not deliver who will you turn on next? The ones who try to play football always get the haters on their back quickly. Just glad you were not around when MLT was at his peak of strolling around but scoring. You would have sold him to those mugs from Tottenham and got a packhorse fast running mf instead.

Exactly this but the average fan who knows little will always prefer a less trchnical try hard to a player that genuinely has something in his locker.

Personally I hope we stick with him, I saw enough last season to see he has something and he did score 5 goals which if he had a bad a season as everyone says surely isnt that bad ?! Certain times last season he was one of the only ones that genuinely looked like doing something on the ball. The last few games he was missing that was so apparant, Lambert dropped in to play GR's role and we just looked devoid of ideas.

With a mobile front man ahead of him and a player out wide with a better brain and pace and we could really see a quality player here.

I get the clamour to take £10m for him but Im certainly happy to give him another year

Imho Gaston is our best player. We just need better players around him to detect and charge his genius.

No you need mobility ahead of him, his game is different then that we play ATM, he wants to drive forward and have players around him to play the ball too.

That doesnt really work when your striker is winning the ball on the half way line and he is more advanced than the wide men.

Ok i'll add that to the list

Gaston was rubbish last year because.......

• Pinocchio's tactics dont suit him

• He is too good and our average players cant keep up

• He is too fast and skillfull

• No mobobility ahead of him

You have similar view to Rickie Lambert who has also said Ramirez is our best player and has never known a player with such awareness.

Fitness, playing to systems, settling into new country, recovery from injury etc are all things that can easily be improved.

But you can't teach a player to have his awareness and technical ability so easily.

Gaston had a solid season last season. 5 goals in 25 appearances. Plenty of flair. Evidence of more to come. I can't understand why anyone would want shot of him. Probably our most promising young player (only Shaw rivals him).

Normally I would, however in this case I happen to agree with his point.

Perhaps you should post a bit less and cement your most popular poster reputation?

 No chance...it'll get to the point where his "exclusives" list will be viewable on every page of every thread on the first page.

Ramirez has the potential to become World Class given time.. lallana will never get in that category.

I think the initial outlay of 12M has given people the idea that he should be world class already.. think 35M for Carroll and then re-evaluate

It's not that I disagree with you, but using that logic if some dip**** went and paid £100k for a Ford Fiesta, my Golf turns into an Aston Martin.

This. He simply is not going to get his head round the English game. Get shot of urgently while there is a chance to bring in someone else.

I don't understand how you can be so sure about that? He's been in England 1 year, has had a few knocks, and is still 21. Why are you writing him off as a definite failure so early? Genuine question...

For those that want Ramirez to be sold... if he did go to Inter Milan, does that not suggest to you that he is actually a very good player that is worth keeping?

He can be frustrating at times, but he has also shown glimpses of real class. He is still young, had a serious injury & family bereavement which broke up the flow to his season and it was his first season in England. Next summer is the time to really judge him.

Gut feeling, thats all.

But surely you can have some patience with your 'gut feeling'. He's clearly got talent, and huge potential, and is a player who gets the crowd off their seats. I'd much rather a player tries to make things happen rather than just average player who takes no risks.

Not really bud, just got in from a 5 mile run, I noticed a while ago that typing on the Iphone at speed leads to mistakes. I am past the point of bothering to correct it !

Edit - see what you mean now

Just about everything from midfield on, apart from dead-balls and occasional misjudgements about trying to run through packed defences instead of passing. iirc, Gary Neville mentioned him as the hardest player in the PL to defend against last season, and Lambert said he was (one of?/the?) the most talented player in the squad.

He's useless at tracking back, appalling at set pieces, frequently gives the ball away needlessly and dives if anyone comes within 5 metres of him. He also makes Guly look enthusiastic.

If you've been running in this heat mate, I hope for your bird's sake your insurance is up to date. I can barely move without sweating at the moment.

I'm sure Gaston is a good player, but I don't think his playing style suits the English game or our team. Inter would be a good fit for him I think.

If they want to offer £15m for him then I would snap their hand off and use that money to sign a quality winger.

No because we were told on here earlier this summer than Milan are a crap team in decline with no money and wouldn't be s attractive as us to a player, remember? If Ramirez leaves us for them its a downward step.

Just one thing. People in general and here dont understand how severe injury a dead leg is when it needs to be opened up and drained.

Biggest signing ever, the team struggling severe at the start of the season. I think he was rushed into the game too early after that injury and that cost him a big part of the season and is why he kept getting minor knocks during the season that took him out for a few games here and there....
