Inter have begun talks to bring
    Southampton attacker Gaston Ramirez
    back to the Serie A.

The Uruguayan left Bologna last summer to join the Hampshire club for a fee of €14 million, but the Beneamata are keen to bring him to Italy where he would link up with compatriot Diego Laxalt at the club.
    ...
Tuttomercatoweb report that the Nerazzurri have opened talks with Southampton to bring the 22-year-old back to Italy and give new coach Walter Mazzarri another attacking option.

Mazzarri is a fan of Ramirez due to his ability to play in several attacking positions, and would join Ishak Belfodil and Mauro Icardi as the Nerazzurri look to reshape their squad with young and talented players for the new campaign.

In 26 Premier League appearances for Southampton last season, Ramirez scored five goals as the Saints secured their stay in the top flight with a 14th place finish.See more

One thing that worries me though, is that he has not reported for preseason yet? Anyone know why this is, because as far as I know, everyone else is there. [with an exception to the players who have been told to find new clubs]

Because he was involved right up until the end of the confed's cup, he's been given the longest leave. He joins this weekend I believe.

He has been back at the club for some tests, and was obviously part of the new kit shoot.

After Diego Laxalt could get another shot Uruguayan's degree in Inter house. The latest rumors collected exclusively by TuttoMercatoWeb.com in fact speak of well-established contacts between the leadership and Inter Gastòn Ramirez of Southampton. The former number 10 of Bologna, passed in 2012 at the English club, is the latest idea of Branca and Aid, which after Belfodil and Icard want to give another young talent to Walter Mazzarri. Ramirez like, as well as the age, even for adaptability to the offensive schemes of technical Saint Vincent and the fact that already knows the Italian championship. Contacts, as mentioned, have already started and in the coming days it is possible that England can get important news in this regard.

Serious question, don't you guys think he will come good for us this season then? Providing he stays that is.

For me its more a case of cutting losses; I've not really seen enough of him to suggest that he can consistently get on the ball and influence games as much as he perhaps should. Plus I'd prefer to see Lallana in that number 10 role, which I think would play to his strengths much more and bring the best out of him; that would also allow us to bring in some real quality to play wide midfield as I don't see persisting with Rodriguez out there as our best option.

Good post. Yes I do agree to a degree. Remember all the hype when we signed Gaston.... If we can bring in a better player as a result then I am ok with it, otherwise I would like to give him ago until jan and revaluate then.

Sorry, but Ramirez is better than Lallana.

Sorry Charlie, but I don't believe he is. And I certainly don't think we're as good a side with both of them playing.

I love Lallana, but Gaston is considerably better than him. Has much more end product, and more about him. Plus he's got much more potential IMO.

Opinions Garrett. I don't particularly love Lallana, in fact I think he had a poor season last season. But in the PL I think he's wasted out wide but just the player we need in the number 10 role. Whereas I don't see a huge amount of improvement from Ramirez, he didn't have a great season either but I think Lallana suits our need much better. Different types of players, Gaston is a bit more direct whereas Lallana is a bit more tricky. If nothing else I'd like to see Lallana be given the chance he was being primed for before we signed Ramirez, just to see if I'm right or wrong.

Ramirez is a class up from Adam, though it pains me to say it. His dead-ball deliveries are shockingly bad, and he has an awful habit of picking up the ball near the box and doing the south american thing of running into the nearest pack of defenders for no apparent reason (other than, presumably, to play for the pen,) but those faults aside he is world class. And we dont actually have to let him take free kicks and corners, so......

Depends what your definition of "world class" is; but Ramirez doesn't get close to any of my benchmarks for the description, that's for sure.

Wow. Divisive topic. Some considered comments. Some by obvious wums who think they are wittier than they actually are.

For those that want him to go irrespective- first of all how come that no mark team Inter Milan fancy our player? Secondly how come they think he might be worth 10m after what by all accounts was a bad season with saints? They must be mad or idiots right? Or maybe you are? Which? Or both? Is he really worth 10m now despite being supposedly worse than anyone in our transfer history? Are we lucky to get such mugs to want this hopeless player?

Feel sorry for our next flair player tbh. And if he goes and AL does not deliver who will you turn on next? The ones who try to play football always get the haters on their back quickly. Just glad you were not around when MLT was at his peak of strolling around but scoring. You would have sold him to those mugs from Tottenham and got a packhorse fast running mf instead.

Just about everything from midfield on, apart from dead-balls and occasional misjudgements about trying to run through packed defences instead of passing. iirc, Gary Neville mentioned him as the hardest player in the PL to defend against last season, and Lambert said he was (one of?/the?) the most talented player in the squad.

In my opinion Gaston is our best player, you can see he is technically gifted. He's still young and we haven't seen the best of him, fair enough if he struggles to get going in the first half of the season and a large amount comes knocking then think about moving him on but I reckon we should let poch have a decent pre season with him and see what he can do.

Ramirez has the potential to become World Class given time.. lallana will never get in that category.

I think the initial outlay of 12M has given people the idea that he should be world class already.. think 35M for Carroll and then re-evaluate
