Saint-Armstrong Posted 16 July, 2013 Posted 16 July, 2013 Time for the first match thread of the season. I'll try and give you a bit of background on Llagostera too, while we are at it.... V Who are UE Llagostera? Llagostera, or Unio Esportiva Llagostera to give their full name, are a Catalan football club. They were formed in 1947 and have enjoyed a rapid rise, with five promotions since 2005. They currently play in the third tier of the Spanish pyramid, which is then split into four groups. You could probably say that applying it to the English system, it's like splitting League One into regions. They compete in a section with the likes of the Espanyol B/C/D teams. They currently play in Segunda División B – Group 3. Last season they finished 10th out of 21 teams, racking up 50 points from 40 games. This was a decline on their 5th placed finish the season before, which earned them qualification into the Copa del Rey. This is the highest level they have played at, and they are enjoying their third ever season at this level. Interesting Fact: Some players are unavailable at times due to also representing the club's hockey team! Where do they play? Llagostera's home is the Estadi Municipal based in Llagostera, within Girona. It has been the club's home since February 1948 and has a capacity of 1,400. What are club colours? They play in a home kit of red and blue hooped tops, blue shorts and blue socks with maroon bands. Their away kit is all-white. The Club Anthem Llagostera! Llagostera! Forward! We are a strong and brave club that plays and fights for the name you carry. A team partnered with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. We are a club with enthusiasm, pride of our people and supporters. If you did, just let me know for future reference. Thanks
SNOWY Posted 16 July, 2013 Posted 16 July, 2013 Excellent preview. My favourite line from their club song.. "Come on, Llagostera! Always joined by pineapple to fight"
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 16 July, 2013 Posted 16 July, 2013 Cheers for that, really enjoyed it. 'Always joined by pineapple at your side' lol. Does Jason Lee play for them?!
VectisSaint Posted 16 July, 2013 Posted 16 July, 2013 Excellent preview. My favourite line from their club song.. "Come on, Llagostera! Always joined by pineapple to fight" Should we adopt a fruit and have a song about it? I suppose we used to have Peach in our team, maybe that counts.
trousers Posted 16 July, 2013 Posted 16 July, 2013 Should we adopt a fruit and have a song about it? Kumquat gets my vote
holepuncture Posted 16 July, 2013 Posted 16 July, 2013 anyway, i hope some of you found this quick little fact-file about ue llagostera interesting. If you did, just let me know for future reference. Thanks interesting? lol
John Boy Saint Posted 16 July, 2013 Posted 16 July, 2013 Missing fact is that they play on an artificial pitch hence why for my Holibob treat they are playing in Palafrugell (an answered prayer) cos its real grass and MP knows the ground. So beach tomorrow then get scrubbed up, head to the game then dinner in Llafranc afterwards...... What I call a right touch!
SNSUN Posted 16 July, 2013 Posted 16 July, 2013 That front row look like they're collectively trying to curl out a fresh brown biscuit. Can they not afford seats or benches? Still a good OP.
Maggie May Posted 16 July, 2013 Posted 16 July, 2013 Everyone knows Saints' fruit or vegetable of choice is the aubergine. Aubergine, aubergine, aubergine! (Brizzle Rovers away 2011).
Scoobysaint Posted 16 July, 2013 Posted 16 July, 2013 Thanks for the good info. Looking forward to getting a peak at what MPs plans are.
sad saints fan Posted 16 July, 2013 Posted 16 July, 2013 https://twitter.com/uellagostera I dont understand Catalan but I think tomorrow might be quite an historic game for them. Hope they enjoy it,but not to much.
John Boy Saint Posted 16 July, 2013 Posted 16 July, 2013 https://twitter.com/uellagostera I dont understand Catalan but I think tomorrow might be quite an historic game for them. Hope they enjoy it,but not to much. Bloody hell €15 to sit in the little stand out of the Sun (still chuffin sun burn hot on the beach at 7:30pm on the beach tonight) that's......that's 4.5 kilos of juicy king prawns for cooking in lashings of Garlic and white wine from Carrefour just round the corner from the ground: blimey going to have to re budget the last of our Holibob money!! Drive home after 3 weeks down here on Friday and this game is going to be the highlight of this years holiday: I won't be able to sleep tonight!!
SNOWY Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 We used to sing about being strawberry growers. Tinned peaches perhaps, more useful in a fight.
The Saint Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 I'm driving down with Mrs Saint, leaving in an hour or so. If we're paying €30 to get in, that's more than the fuel bill...... Anyway, going to make the most of it and enjoy my first ever pre-season away friendly.... Only 45 years of waiting.
Matty's Caddy Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 Everyone knows Saints' fruit or vegetable of choice is the aubergine. Aubergine, aubergine, aubergine! (Brizzle Rovers away 2011). Surely it's celery???
The Saint Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 So that's me, JohnBoySaint and Barney all signed up to go... Who else will be there...??
trousers Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/ue-llagostera-vs-saints-preview-922485.aspx Emmanuel Mayuka, Adam Lallana, Jos Hooiveld and Guly have all picked up minor knocks during training this week so will be assessed before tonight's game. New signings Dejan Lovren and Victor Wanyama have been in full training, so could well get some game-time this evening.
fish fingers Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 Everyone knows Saints' fruit or vegetable of choice is the aubergine. Aubergine, aubergine, aubergine! (Brizzle Rovers away 2011). It made another appearance at Leyton orient that season also. In fact 3/4 made it on the pitch after the first goal.
saintbob40 Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 should be like a normal game in the SPL for VW.....
VectisSaint Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/ue-llagostera-vs-saints-preview-922485.aspx Hence why Mayuka was not in many of the action pictures then, as I suspected in the other thread.

Saints 3-1
RedAndWhite91 Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 Everyone knows Saints' fruit or vegetable of choice is the aubergine. Aubergine, aubergine, aubergine! (Brizzle Rovers away 2011). I still have absolutely no idea what that aubergine was all about.
The Saint Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 Just parked up outside the ground, chatting to some of the coaching staff. It's 32C at the moment, pitch looks good from what I could see, it's an athletics ground as well so seats are a long way from the pitch. Try to post updates when I can....
yorkie Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 Well here we go another season ahead. Pre-season friendlies are not the best guide to form or intent are they going on previous seasons? What am I looking for tonight? 1. A clean sheet 2. Lambo, Guly, J-Rod and Lallana all to score 3. No injuries 4. Debuts for Wanyama and Lovren 5. Ever Banega to appear at HT for team photo!!
The Saint Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 No Twitter, sorry.... Llagostera players have just arrived. In their cars, wearing their shirts...!! Hope Saints don't turn up in their shiny new posh coach.. Just about squeeze a couple of minibuses in at a push..

once_bitterne Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 Have we done the Sweepstake for when the first statement from Alpine that we are condemmed to certain relegation will appear? I'm going for on the conceding of the first corner.

Pamplemousse Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 If we're not ahead by half-time then it will all be Guly's fault.
Window Cleaner Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 Looks like the second string XI to me apart from JRod, guess if he can't score 15 or so this evening we'll have to get someone in from the SPL.
Griffo Posted 17 July, 2013 Posted 17 July, 2013 Presume there's no commentary on Saints Player or anything?
