I don't know how true it is but Norwich have bid 9m and apparently saints are now in for him . Was good two seasons ago until he sustained a bad injury . I'm not Itk read it ion the saints list

£9 million is a lot for a 30 year old if thats true, with very limited resale value. Other than that I dont know much about him.

Doesn't feel like the sort of signing we'd make for that price, to be honest.

 

On a free transfer, maybe, but I can't see us paying around £10m for a 31 year old these days.

Quality international striker.

 

Sick of people saying over 30's are off limits.

 

Chelsea won champs league with a few over 30's. van persie will be 30 this year, giggs still changing games at 40.

 

In the same vain as 'If youre good enough your old enough' stands for youth players 'If you're good enough you're young enough' applies to senior players.

 

The advances in sports science, conditioning and nutrition mean players are light years ahead of the players in the 80's and 90's who were deemed over the hill at 30+.

 

Look at Pirlo, Nesta and Del Piero etc. The Italian physical makeup is one of longevity, high life expectancy etc.

 

I certainly would be happy with a bid and think he would do a good job for us.

Don't believe it. He's 30 years old, 31 in jan. never played EPL. Unless he is a free transfer. How they think they can get 9m for a 30 year old I don't know.. And why all of a Sudden we are interested in this type of player? Nope nope nope. It's odd. Agent talk perhaps to gee up Norwich?

He has scored 1 in 3 throughout his career consistently. Not the best I must admit but not too shabby.

 

In fairness I would rather go for others at that kind of money, demba ba for example.

Im only reporting this from someone living in italt.

It looks like the Saints are placing an offer for Fabio Quagliarella (Juventus). A bid from Norwich, in the amount of 9 mln £, was under evaluation, before Soton entry.

Very good player. Would prefer a dynamic quick younger striker.

 

However his pedigree (chum) is fantastic. More experience and goals at the top level than any if our players.

 

would say he would be a better fit at Norwich. I'm sure he would be solid in the prem.

Anyone who has played a part for an unbeaten Serie A team and with full international italian experience has to be worth a worth a look.

 

30 years old, therefore I wouldn't expect him to be an outright Lambert replacement.... he would either be at his peak or his best years would be behind him.

 

The option he would provide would be fantastic.

Dont disagree that he isnt a good player, but at 30 years old he needs to be a lot cheaper than 12million euros as he will have NO resale value when he is 32/33. And that is a part of nicolas financial appraisal system.

 

Total cost of Quaglierella assuming 3m pa wages over 3 years is 12m fee +9m wages =21million.

 

Compare that to the cost of someone like Damiao over 3 years = 20m fee + 15m wages = 35millio then minus possible resale value of 25-35mm minus endorsements, sponsorship benefits shirt sales etc = between zero or even a profit and minus 10million if hes only been average.

Oh, as a business deal there is no argument.... Damiao or similar would be a better prospect.

 

Sadly (?!?), the world of football doesn't work purely on cash. The reputation of the clubs concerned will also be a massive factor for most players. If Quagliarella wants to come here and a Damiao doesn't, the argument about figures because a little redundant.

Fabio would be the definition of a panic signing. If he's the only option, we might as well stick with Sam.

 

I have no insight in his form over the last 12 months. But why do you suggest this?

He's been pretty rubbish for 2-3 years now, never plays for Juve. They've been trying to flog him off to anyone who'd listen.

Not if the club are saying..hang on...we've got a young player who is pretty sharp, and we want him to get plenty of games in the 2nd half of the season.
