Can anyone remind me of the name of the young lad from Ireland we’re due to sign when he turns (I think) 17; and when that is?

Had a mental note to say it was due in July but don’t think I’ve seen anything.

Apologies if it’s happened and I’ve missed it!

Good luck to Dom Ballard whose gone out on loan for the season today, hoping he gets a run of games and goals 😊

Post injury he needs a good season on loan - if we do go back down I can see him being part of the squad at least. He seems to have something about him.

I'm hoping we can sort JB's contract out too soon, he's one we need to be keeping next season whatever happens - in the Champ he's one of the better CBs and if we do stay in the Prem and upgrade, he's still a good squad option.

(And KWP's but I'm not holding my breath)

We still need to do a little bit of work on the outgoings to get our over 21 squad down to the 25 man maximum.  There are 30 players that qualify at the moment, with the next likely arrival (Fernandes) qualifying as an U21.  Two of the 30 are out on loan and Ben Reeves wasn't added as a potential PL starter.  Mara seems set to leave so, if that happens, that leaves just one more to go (or more if we add further new over 21 players).  Bella-Kotchap, Alcaraz and Onuachu are the next most likely to be sold.  I suppose Bazunu doesn't need to be named for the first half of the season given his long term injury status.

Thanks @Over land and sea -  I think we’ll be fine to hit the 25 but with the relatively high number of U21 players hoping/expecting to play we still have a pretty bloated squad right now. Maybe looking good for the future but it’ll be challenging to manage all of them this season.

In terms of specifics I see:

Lis being loaned out if/when we get a keeper in

I think Mara and ABK are gone.

I see us loaning out Bree if we don’t find a buyer for KWP (or obviously we sell KWP)
And as you say, Bazunu won’t need selecting for this section of the season

That leaves a limited bit of scope, especially if we can shift either of Alcaraz or Onuachu who look likely candidates. And there’s also one other fitness consideration with Stewart … worth a spot in the 25 🤷🏻‍♂️

Overall the squad does have some exciting youth to it, but given how big it is, it’s still worryingly short on quality in certain key areas (GK, AM, Wide, no. 9).
Fixing the squad after years of terrible recruitment was always going to take time I guess

@Over land and sea just a couple of things I’ve noticed ahead of your post-deadline day clean-up

Nathan Wood appears to be Nathan Wood-Gordon (at least on the BBC … and we don’t have enough players with double barreled surnames 😉)

Mateusz Lis needs adding to the list of exiting players

Stu Armstrong still says on trial at Brentford on that list

The following players were allocated squad numbers for the EFL cup game Akachukwu 54, Moore 57, O’Brien-Whitmarsh 60, Robinson 46.

And at the risk of achieving MLG levels of pedantry, Shea Charles doesn’t need to say U21 in the U21 loan list.

Thanking you in advance of all of the other updates, and extremely grateful as ever for the work you do here.

I think the club know it KWP knows it.

If he wanted to sign a new deal he would have this summer.

Dibling will know his worth in a few months time, that's for sure.

I think we all fully expect KWP to leave for free. I'm amazed he's still here today.

He'd be daft to commit at this point to a team that is pretty likely, at this point, to be back in the Championship rather sharpish.

He will leave us in the summer and remain in the PL and he will leave with my best wishes.

And we will be forced to sell Tyler Dibling and Sam Amo-Ameyaw cheap next year.

Will be interesting to see who we have next year if relegated. At a guess:

Bazunu

Bree Wood/Stephens Edwards Taylor

Charles Smallbone

Aribo

Armstrong Lallana BBD

Archer?

Pretty good championship team there with maybe strengthening needed in midfield.

There's a club option on the Dibling contract, so that effectively makes him a 2027 player for free agency, with pressure to sell coming in 2026

I’m not sure we’ll be allowed to play a 4-3-4 but Lallana will barely be fit anyway. For the most part it looks a decent team but I’d imagine that having sold THB, Downes, Fernandes, Suga and Ramsdale we’ll have a bit to spend.

Sorry meant to put a / between Armstrong and Lallana. Yes we will likely have a fair bit and would strengthen but it's a pretty solid team all things considered. Certainly won't be the same level of fire sale like last year.

Looks like this is our 25 man squad.  It seems the EFL rule that any loan player (regardless of age) has to be included in the list doesn’t apply in the PL.

Happy to see the Janny redemption arc play out. Thought he was outstanding last year and is probably our most consistent and complete CB. Good business to tie him down as he’s just hitting his prime at 28.

Deserved that after last season. Is he upgradable? Yes, you could argue THB has a higher ceiling and ABK if he stays is a better defender but after his performances last year he's deserved the extension. More importantly even if we go down we have a strong complement of centre backs that aren't going anywhere.

I'm not sure Downes will have anyone from the Prem coming in for him so we'll probably still have him.

January window ? ......just thinking aloud you understand.

Bring Shea Charles back from Sheff Wed. and send Edwards out on loan there instead, (he needs game time).

*might even consider having goalie bro. Pierce Charles (and let Joe Lumley get some games there instead ?).

Ugochukwa may stay for the rest of the season, but Cornet (WHam) doesn't even get on the bench regularly.

If KWP goes before the summer we might recoup a few million otherwise he'll go for free in summer.  £0.

We may still get that South American striker in January (?) and let one of our strikers go out on loan.  Archer / BBD ?

If fit?.. ..Onuachu  has 8 games left before the New Year to prove himself - otherwise we may cut our losses and he'll leave.

We need a better choice of CB's, now it's only THB (plus a fit Jan B).... and Captain Jack  who will be OOC in the summer.

We are overloaded with full backs who don't play regularly and I read that Cedric is still available?  (good experience at least)

Neither Downes or Smallbone have excelled this season, and 60 minutes from Lallana is about the limit before he gets subbed,

but I would really like a tough, experienced DF who knows about the Prem. and can tackle without getting a red card.

Not much to ask - is it ?

He'd benefit more from regular gametime rather than playing second fiddle to Downes.

Oh... do you mean the Flynn Downes ....when in " his best form"  and injury free?. .. He's not the player he was last season.

Noted after his return from suspension - he's already had the first of his next 5 yellows.

We are still without Will Smallbone, ( not sure when he's fit again) and Adam Lallana is good for 60 mins. before getting subbed / injured.

Our midfield is pathetically weak (come back Romeu)...and we lack bite and creativity.  I'd welcome a Shea Charles return, because

we're hardly likely to get " a class act " to come in and bulk up the MF, with us (sadly) already with one foot in the Championship.
