Keeping Track of the Contracts 2024-25

That's interesting - also thought big things were expected. Saw him a few times and looked super skillful, although didnt realise he was 19 and thought was telling he hasnt been anywhere near the first team squad.

Is 'terminating your contract' going to be a new thing? Noticed a few players have done it.

And you can probably add Lewis, Scott and Burnett to that list - we've not been told details of any contract extension but may well have been 1 year

Burnett (I'm guessing) must have be injured for a while.

Lewis & Scott can get added to the ongoing Saints Academy spinning goalkeeping tombola raffle.  There's a fair few keepers on that list.

Much as you would expect.  Points to note

Shane Long is included in the 25 man squad list (which compises 20 players) - may be a resut of the lateness of the loan.  He's the only over 21 out on loan to be listed as Hoedt, Gunn, Hesketh, Lemina, Sims and Elyounoussi are all omitted.  All the Under 21s out on loan are listed (Vokins, Valery, O'Connor, Slattery).

When you look through the U21 list and ignore those who are part of the first team squad there are very few that there is any real hype or expectation of.

Where would you expect to see real hype?

Why would you ignore those that are part of the first team? That seems flawed if you ignore the successes.

One player who deserves a mention is Ryan Finnigan.  Impressive for a 1st year scholar has been around the B-team, training with the first team, FA cup appearance & been on bench in the prem.

In the era where Walcott came through he was attracting attention from fans from about aged 14.

It was obvious Shaw, Ward-Prowse and Chambers were going to be successful from aged 16 or so.

When you see the threads on here, reports from the U18s and views of people who watch them there aren't one or two names that keep cropping up as being ones to watch. Previously players like Best, Blackstock and Dyer were being spoken of in glowing terms when they played for the U18s and people were excited sbout them because they were excelling at that level.

Just like none of the English players ever get picked for the Eng age group sides.

Re ignoring those in the first team squad, I mean the likes of Diallo and Salisu who are clearly players we have signed rather than developed.

Yes, had a feeling when he was added to the B team squad profiles on his return from loan that this was on the cards, particularly as Scott and Latham have rarely featured since.  They probably wouldn't have bothered if he was being released at the end of the season.  There are still a handful not listed (and some who've left that are!).

Congratulations to Jack.

Dan Sheldon (I think) reported a few months ago that Stephens had signed a new contract but transfermarkt still has him listed as out of contract in 2022. Anyone know anything?

Funnily enough, in the list of agent related transactions released by the FA today, Jack Stephens is listed as 'updated registration'.

The only other Saints players listed are either new signings (KWP, Salisu etc) or players who have signed new deals (Bednarek, JWP etc).

I think Stephens signed one and for whatever reason it wasnt announced.

In hindsight considering he was a starter when he signed, I wonder if they would do the same if they had the chance again?

Marco Rus has been removed from the U18 profiles.

There is a mystery trialist at Coventry in this article: https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sport/football/football-news/coventry-city-trialist-big-impact-20296222

But read this and it's a short-lived mystery: https://www.sufc.co.uk/news/2021/march/Under-18s-3-2-Coventry-City-report/

Rus is one of many out of contract soon.

Ralph Hasenhüttl seemed very downbeat about transfer possibilities this summer during his press conference, what do you think he knows that we don't? He has talked a lot about getting players in early but maybe he has already been rebuffed by players or agents or the money just isn't there.

I was saddened that he didn't seem to have good word to say for Bertie when asked about how that would impact on the team. "We can find a better replacement" seems to have been the knub of his comment. Noticeable too that Bertie didn't mention Ralph on his Twitter account when praising fans and management the other day. Read into this coolness on both sides what you will.

Suddenly there is a sinking feeling that this summer's transfer business will not amount to the root and branch clear-out and rebuild that has been hinted at by RH in his more upbeat moments.

I should hope he knows a hell of a lot more than us and rightly so.

No sinking feeling because there os a long way to go

Cheer up, it's only may

Thought he said we were far down the line of getting Bertrand's replacement. To me that sounded positive, possibly a done deal. I don't know why you have got a sinking feeling after that.

I said before that the relationship between Ralph and Bertie was never that great from the start, think Bertie's comments reinforced this view, he was a reluctant sign-up to Ralph's way and has generally done a good job , but Ralph clearly is not that worried that he is not staying, knowing as he presumably does that we can (and have) done better). If we go back to 3 at the back as we seem to be doing to some extent already then Ryan is not neccessarily the best way forward, as he seems to imply in his comments. You may also have noticed that Ryan mentioned Liebherrs (plural) specifically, but not a mention for Gao, his comments were very well directed and showed exactly where his enthusiasm and loyalties lay.

Please guys, this is one of the best threads on this site for useful, factual information, brilliantly kept up to date by the thread owner.

There’s plenty of other threads to ruin with petty squabbles - please leave this one alone. It’s not a fair reflection on all the work put into this one.

Not sure how its possible to have a root and branch clear out when players have years left on contracts, are on big wages and no one wants them.  That kind of player goes out on loan with us paying a percentage of wages, usually.

With spending always at the max, preventing wholesale changes and big squads, all that happens is the odd player becomes out of contract, they leave and we fill that slot.

Lemina, Hoedt, Elyounoussi...they will all be back in a few weeks time claiming those wages and will be hear all summer until we loan them out again, desperately paying god knows how much of their wages.

Difference this year is many of the dud contracts are entering their final year, easier to move them on since the overall value of their oversized contracts aren't what they used to be and they no longer have long term security of a long contract. Of the deadwood, only Gunn and Elyounoussi have more than a year left, two years in their case.

I hope Jake makes a good career for himself at the lower levels, I think he could turn out to be a decent Championship player in time.

He is leaving things late, he isn't young any more at 25 years old and has struggled to make an impression in League Two.
