Having followed the last few weeks of VW transfer gossip it seems that Saints have finally shaken off the perpetual media moniker 'Struggling Southampton' (which has been used since the early 90s), to be replaced by 'Ambitious Southampton' - long may this continue!

I don't think we have had the perpetual moniker of 'Struggling Southampton' to be honest.

With shifting perceptions you also get shifting expectations. It'll be very interesting to see how the team and club react to an increased level of expectation next season. There have been times last season when the moment we had a little cushion above the bottom three we simply stopped playing with the intensity and quality needed to get results against 'lesser' opposition. That simply won't do this season and so it will be interesting to see how Pochettino can keep the players 'at it'.

Try typing it into Google - the first four pages are mostly from the past three years. Since the window opened there is a lot of use of Ambitious Southampton by the national media, mostly positive but some obviously tongue in cheek...

I think its really too soon to judge. All of the EPL teams are flush with cash at the moment. Swansea just spent £12m as well. All of the big guns are still to do much in the way of serious business. While I think we will certainly push on, from the outside looking in, most of the clubs are going to be spending big and many will have to do that just to stand still. A better time to call it will be the end of August
