farawaysaint Posted 11 July, 2013 Share Posted 11 July, 2013 He was managing the under 21s? Can't find any formal announcement of him being the new Latvian manager on any news site though the ever reliable wikipedia deems it so Still, wouldn't be the first u21 coach to step up so it is plausible. farawaysaint Posted 11 July, 2013 Share Posted 11 July, 2013 Holy hell, it looks like it's true Go Marian! http://la.lv/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=385228:pahars-apstiprints-par-latvijas-izlases-galveno-treneri&catid=98:futbols&Itemid=117 http://sportacentrs.com/futbols/latvijas_izlase/11072013-starkovs_atkapjas_pahars_klust_izlases_pa Announced in the last hour or so. Today the Latvian Football Federation held an extraordinary meeting of the Board of random head coach confirmed Marians Pahars, says the federation's official website. The decision was taken after former head coach Alexander Starkov resignation is received. Less than 37 years old Pahars previously operated by the Latvian U-21 team. "Today, held in the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) an extraordinary meeting of the Board of the Latvian national football team's head coach confirmed former Latvian U-21 football team's head coach Marian Pahars. Decision follows the current head coach for the national Alexander Starkov personal receipt of the resignation," says the website of the Federation of Communication . "Meanwhile, the Latvian U21 football team's head coach LFF appointed acting Director Sports Director Dainis Kazakevičs." Starkov chair at a random power was still sašūpots 2012 European Championship qualifying tournament, but the speech was even stronger after the previous World Cup cycle games. First outing on March 22, Latvia failed to win the group youngest Liechtenstein (1:1), but the seventh day of June in Riga hopeless suffered defeat against the strongest team of the group Bosnia and Herzegovina (0:5). Federation Secretary John Mežeckis had already started to look for potential new coaches, but later held the board meeting was almost unanimously voted for Starkov retention in office until the end of the cycle. Although the loss of Bosnians Federation President Guntis Indriksons conversation with a "sports newspaper" said the coach may indeed be changed in a few days specially convened press conference the President had another point of view: "At the moment I do not see the options and the reasons why the Starks would leave from office. Yeah, when there is no cycle and atradīsimies below Lithuania and Liechtenstein, it is clear that there is reason to talk about it. Presently we are at the point where we need to be. already can be planted, can be had then scoff themselves and coaches, but there is a real need to look at things. real thing is that now we have three four competitive soccer - Vanin, Gorkšs mustelids and Rudņevs. Since it is a reality, and so the question of Starkov replacement would simply be the greatest stupidity that I the same could happen. " Starks, who this month celebrates 56 years, head coach of the sample worked since spring 2007, when the post over resigning Yuri Andreev - Andrew resigned after the shocking loss of Vaduz (0:1). Consequently, Starks was in office for more than six consecutive years, correcting John Gilas in the previously set record. Starks once many years was the Gila and Revaz Dzodzuašvili assistant, but for the first time at a random power came in the spring of 2001. Madona born Starkov greatest success, of course, was the removal of a sample to the 2004 European Championship final tournament. In autumn 2004, after the loss of Portugal (0:2) has received a number of game disqualification for the intervention of the court to Starks left the national teams. Former Latvian national team winger Pahars in 2010 became assistant Starkov Riga "Skonto", but in 2011 itself became a head coach. The first season of Pahari-led "Skonto" Latvian took fourth place in the championship, but last season Marians team led by Latvian Cup and silver awards. After the end of the season Pahars became the Latvian U-21 sampling head coach. Latvian national team World Cup cycle with four points currently sit in fifth place. Qualifying for next September, when the company in Lithuania and Latvia will visit Greece but Pahars as the head coach spot will debut on August 14, when the game checks for Estonia. The press conference, which will be presented in the new Latvian national football team head coach Marian Pahars will be held on Monday, July 15 at 13:00 Riga Olympic Sports Center. Participating in the conference the President Guntis Indriksons LFF LFF and General John Mežeckis.

angelman Posted 7 May, 2016 Share Posted 7 May, 2016 Good to see that this can happen and that the Latvian FA were so accommodating. Football/footballers (at the top) seem to have become so distant from the fan base these days that things like this seem out of the ordinary when they should be a lot more common.
