Cabrone Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Should find out soon, the club have put a deadline down and should stick with it. I'd love him to come here but there has to be a limit to how far SFC will go. Shame about Vydra, who else are we looking at?
JoeShmoe Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Maybe it's a smokescreen for Rhodes then? Guarantee someone one will panic buy Rhodes on deadline day (West Ham)
SuperSAINT Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Shame about Vydra, who else are we looking at? Fabio Quagliarella / Gonzalo Bergessio / Moussa Sow / Alfred Finnbogason have been rumoured targets. Osvaldo is on a different level.
dinger Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 So loads of articles about him coming, line in sun rumours and signed for spurs? Can't believe people are saying disappointing window??!! Either not supported saints long or short memories. We have England's CF! If he is injured sure the JRod of Liverpool game could do a job, even likes of Lallana - all good enough for top half attack. I'm happy for club to chase targets to take us up a level but this line up doesn't make me disappointed about window.. Boruc Clyne Lovren Yoshida Shaw Schneiderlin VW Ramirez Lallana JRod Lambert Perspective! But never any in your posts. Do you speak in short-hand? Curious!
Wade Garrett Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 http://fedenerazzurra.com/2013/08/16/osvaldo-accepts-inters-wage-offer/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Quite precise with the wages offered. Looks to me like he's trying to squeeze us. Think his agent has been using his media contacts this past 24 hours. If the stories are true, Cortese will walk away from this deal at the end of today. Big game of bluff going on at the moment.
Scoobysaint Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 I am not convinced this one will happen although I think it does show other clubs and players that we mean business in progressing. It is a tricky situation as not many international players are going to be content not playing CL in a world cup season. It may be case of another team rebuild to get to the next level. Just as Hammond, Harding, Butterfield got us promoted, maybe we now need players who can get us into the top seven and then after that rebuild again to hit even higher marks. But as has been said before.... evolution not revolution. We cant simply expect top, top, top players to be happy playing for a mid table Prem team regardless of ambition.

This is what we are trying to do but they keep rejecting us. Maybe MP is not the man to take us to the next level that we want ??? Coutinho and Osvaldo both played under him so why did they both reject the chance of linking up with him? I know Osvaldo is 50/50 but he has not jumped at the chance so far,if we cant attract a higher calibre of player that has played for him before how are we going to attract a player that quality that hasn't ??

FairWeather Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 I can see this being a repeat of what happened with Mido (if so, hopefully in every way: i.e. he ended up being a bit ****)
DuncanRG Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Coutinho and Osvaldo both played under him so why did they both reject the chance of linking up with him? There are 800,000 potential reasons why they turned us down and none of them reflect badly on Mauricio Pochettino.

I don't think it would be a much of an issue if there wasn't a world cup at the end of the season. As for MP not being the big attraction, I think if we were in the same league position as Spurs and could offer the same prospects then I think Osvaldo would come here. The other major drawback we have is that Southampton is not a very desirable cosmopolitan place to live. Harsh but nowhere near the appeal of London or even Manchester.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 So assuming Osvaldo does choose Spurs.........anyone for Defoe?
niceandfriendly Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 So assuming Osvaldo does choose Spurs.........anyone for Defoe? Not a bad shout there son.
Mr Saints Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 So assuming Osvaldo does choose Spurs.........anyone for Defoe? Proven Prem goalscorer for 6 mil? No brainer for me.
Bewildered Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Tancredi Palmeri @tancredipalmeri 9m Twist in Inter story:indonesian billionaire Thohir officially saying it's his brother not him in Milan;no take over happening in this window Hard to see Inter offering big wages or fee if their takeover is not going to be completed in time.
Saint Charlie Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Clearly in a toss up between us and Spurs they win. But have they actually put a bid in? More reliable sources suggested they wanted Lamela or Pjanic. We will see.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 ESPN reporting he's joined Spurs... FFS.
Smirking_Saint Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 So assuming Osvaldo does choose Spurs.........anyone for Defoe? Not sure he is the player we need, a goalscorer he is but we need someone to lead from the front, thats not Defoe
Glasgow_Saint Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 ESPN reporting he's joined Spurs... FFS. Gutted.............. but £1,900 coming my way :) Show me the money
Wade Garrett Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 ESPN reporting he's joined Spurs... FFS. I think they're reporting that The Sun reported it.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Not sure he is the player we need, a goalscorer he is but we need someone to lead from the front, thats not Defoe Any idea who?
Wade Garrett Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Not sure he is the player we need, a goalscorer he is but we need someone to lead from the front, thats not Defoe I reckon he'd fit right in to our style of play.
Bewildered Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Anthony Wright @asroma_uk 28m Sportmediaset - Tottenham have offered €15m for Pablo Osvaldo, less than Southampton's €18m but Osvaldo more inclined to join Spurs #asroma
Smirking_Saint Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Any idea who? Nope, not really. Bony would have been excellent. Sow maybe ? Cheeky bid for Lukaku if Chelsea sign someone. Need a player that is mobile and can hold ball up, outside of the big three leagues Im not too sure about quality
Smirking_Saint Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 I reckon he'd fit right in to our style of play. Where ?
Wade Garrett Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Story in The Sun could have been planted so punters use SkyBet to back it happening.
MerceSaint28 Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 If he was about to join Spuds...why have the odds not changed?? Spurs have come in but not enough that he is gonna sign http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/pablo-daniel-osvaldo/club-after-summer-transfer-window
Smirking_Saint Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Left-back. Honestly where ? We play with one striker who leads the line ? Without a signing of someone not only technically able but more mobile then Lambert wont be replaced, so yeah, maybe you meant left back
Toon Saint Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Gutted.............. but £1,900 coming my way :) Show me the money All the more reason for us to be delighted if he does join us. :)
itchen_dan Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Osvaldo wants Tottenham to Rome to be 15 million http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sportmediaset.mediaset.it%2Fmercato%2Froma%2F2013%2Farticoli%2F1007913%2Fosvaldo-vuole-il-tottenham-alla-roma-vanno-15-milioni.shtml
northam soul Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Realistically this is looking less likely especially if the Spurs interest is genuine. I just hope our next option whoever that may be can be sorted quickly. Our opening few fixtures brought a poor return in points from the corresponding teams last year so i feel we need to hit the ground running this time against these so called lesser teams. Our chances of repeating the results against the big boys are going to be slim.
St.Patrik Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 If we had a bid of €3mill more accepted why would Roma miss out of that kind of money just to make the player happy? Is business there is no such things as being nice these days.....
angelman Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 What happens to Spurs if they don't sell Bale for the amount they want? If they sign Osvaldo, what's that take their spending to - £75m?
Big Bad Bob Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 If we had a bid of €3mill more accepted why would Roma miss out of that kind of money just to make the player happy? Is business there is no such things as being nice these days..... That's what gets me, fair enough I can understand he wants to live in London but why would Roma accept a bid for €15m when we've bid (allegedly) €18m??
B Rabbit Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 That's what gets me, fair enough I can understand he wants to live in London but why would Roma accept a bid for €15m when we've bid (allegedly) €18m?? ...because they want to get rid of him...he's not coming here so what's better ...15 mil or nothing. Haven't you ever played Football Manager?!!
Smirking_Saint Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 That's what gets me, fair enough I can understand he wants to live in London but why would Roma accept a bid for €15m when we've bid (allegedly) €18m?? Because they know if they accept Spurs offer that he will sign and so get him off the wage bill, where as they could get an extra €3mill from us but potentially not make the sale.

Jimmy_D Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Or, why have we offered €18m when they'd accept €15m? Could be that it's 18M Euros, which is about £15M
Saint_Tony Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Still 2/1on skybet to join spurs, buying money, surely? Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
Glasgow_Saint Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 All the more reason for us to be delighted if he does join us. :) Its win/win hence the bet. Done this a few times and won BIG. WHU to win away at Leicester City (april 12) won me a nice sum.
Bewildered Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Have Benfica managed to sell Cardozo yet? Might be worth a punt albeit a costly one given his age. Demba Ba is still available and unlikely to be needed at Chelsea Lacina Traore of Anzhi, who are looking to sell off anyone that will bring in money. Halfedsson from Heerenveen was linked not too long ago
Batman Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 This can't be right. We are the best club in England outside of the top 4 with a billionaire owner with nice pictures of a possible new ground
JoeShmoe Posted 16 August, 2013 Posted 16 August, 2013 Spurs spending the Bale money it seems, even without him if they do get Osvaldo i'd tip him them ahead of Arsenal for top 4. They'be bought some really good players this summer

Halfedsson from Heerenveen was linked not too long ago There's no Halfredsson at Heerenveen, there's a Finnbogasson at Heerenveen with whom we've been linked once on some obscure website and we've also been like with Halfredsson at some point but he's a midfieldr playing for Hellas Verona.
