The Times this morning suggests we have had a bid accepted but he needs convincing to move to London. Can't find a link but it says it in the paper rumours from the SSN app.

If Osvaldo signing does not come off and it sounds like we will know today one way or the other then clearly other targets would already have been identified. I would be surprised if we did not have a quality striker signed by the end of next week.

Just one question.

What is the Sun's track record with rumours?

it goes against all the other sounds coming out of Italy. If Spurs were seriously interested then there would surely have been flagged up before now.

a site that tries to track the accuracy of newspapers' football reporting. Likely not perfect mind you so take with a grain of salt.

In fairness to the club, they do all their business behind closed doors so we have no idea what is going on (just look at the Lovren signing - first thing I knew about it was the announcement of his signing). I don't think that it takes too much time to send in an offer and have a meeting and I don't think that the club are so naive to think that they are going to get every target that they want.

If we don't sign a new forward, then are we really up **** creek? We seem to have

RL

JRod

Mayuka

Isgrove

It's risky going into the season presuming that Mayuka and Isgrove can bang them in on a regular basis, but maybe the coaching staff think that they can. JRod might also be thought of as being a risk, but we aren't completely toothless. At least they all want to play for Saints, which to me is important.

Not this myth again. That's a load of cack. Just because you didn't hear about it...

Having read this saga for some time now and kept to the 'commenting sidelines' as I really don't know what is true, gossip and just made up, if this fellow is really making Southampton and several other clubs run around as it appears he is, then should he sign-on, he better be a balls-out performer week-in, week-out and net about 20 or more goals or he can feck off to London where he can do whatever it is he wants to do in the evenings and on his copious days off.

The trouble is if the rumours of our targets are genuine, and having read as much as I can find on the Internet [i am now thankfully retired at 51 so unfortunately I have much more time - look at me], I can't help feeling that we are possibly aiming way too high. Despite the recent fantastic years for us fans surely any £30million + footballer is going to say 'Southampton who?'

Hopefully I am over-reacting as the season is nearly upon us and the management is being more sensible than the stuff I read.

For some reason I just feel we have not improved enough at present and although we weren't too bad last season everyone has played against us now, we're not a new commodity and tactics against us will be better. I can see defeat at WBA for instance.

For the record I am not a miserable, weird, pessimist but I don't feel confident about this season - also I don't want Saints to spend £100million on players with big names because it's the only answer either.

I think the above proves I have no fecking clue what I am on about.

Osvaldo's agent has obviously phoned up the Sun hoping for a last minute other option by trying to force Tottenham's hand.

Scatter gun, they print thousands and then one comes off, the yell it from the roof tops.

Let me get this straight, everyone is trying to lump their cash on Spurs signing him because of a dodgy story in the Sun, wow.

If the Sun was reporting we had signed him I bet you'd be excited. People don't want to believe bad news...

Also if it's a done deal as the sun seem to think it is i.e he's going to be revealed today, why on earth would a bookie offer 5.5 or whatever it was on him? it'd be more like 1/10 if it was so obvious.

We finally have a chairman who is clearly ambitious and is not content to just stagnate.whether we manage to sign an Osvaldo ,Damaio ,Benaga or similar class of player or not ,i for one applaud his audacious efforts.Even without another top class acquisition(as i think the two so far are real quality) we are in far better shape than many would have you believe.

All this talk of we are wasting time going for unrealistic targets is really annoying. The club clearly have a vision and it is not standing still as many here would appear to favour.

As for loan players personally i think they should be banned or at least from within the same division.

Surely it is better to fail trying ,than fail to try.

All hail The Don

Careful bro, did you not realise you are not allowed to challenge those who are negative in what we are trying to achieve. I applaud NC for what his tenacity. Long may it continue. I am enjoying the ride.

£100 last week at 18/1 :)

Bookies were offering 1/18 that you're a **** :)

Alas they stopped taking money on that a long time ago.

OK fair enough, a slight embellishment, but the point was that it wasn't being reported in the press as going backwards and forwards for weeks and weeks, as this (and the Wnayama bid) has done.

Posted

At least we should all get some closure on this at some point today, then we can start another fairytale thread for our next target.

I think it's a given that we will bring in a striker, just absolutely no idea who the other contenders are

Posted

This is the worst part of football theses days, clubs having to "prostitute" themselves to these foreign mercenary ****s in order to compete. Cue the SDR type panic buy now to try to make up ground on our competitors.QUOTE=Saint_Tony;1759175]Hopefully that's this saga sorted today. That'll be weeks spent trying to sign two strikers who were always unrealistic targets. Think we could be waiting until the last day now to get a striker, not ideal with the season underway, especially with a favourable fixture list. Football transfers seem so much more complex and drawn out than they used to be!

So loads of articles about him coming, line in sun rumours and signed for spurs?

Can't believe people are saying disappointing window??!!

Either not supported saints long or short memories.

We have England's CF! If he is injured sure the JRod of Liverpool game could do a job, even likes of Lallana - all good enough for top half attack.

I'm happy for club to chase targets to take us up a level but this line up doesn't make me disappointed about window..

Boruc

Clyne

Lovren

Yoshida

Shaw

Schneiderlin

VW

Ramirez

Lallana

JRod

Lambert

I know you're a professional apologist but give it a break - we dried up for goals and creativity at the end of last season yet this is the one area we've manifestly failed to address.

Exactly, and the " weak links " still remain.

Last ditch effort by agent IMO. Managed to get press links to Spurs and Arsenal in under 24 hours. Good effort. Still feel we are in pole position.

What I find strange is that it is almost only Inter fansites that comes out with those reports, but not saying it wouldn´t be true but there is still the point of why would Roma loan/sell him to a big rival....?

This link states that there are no offers worthy of note from Inter....

http://www.calciomercatonews.com/ultime-notizie/2013/08/16/calciomercato-roma-osvaldo-southampton-fiducioso-ma-wolfsburg-e-tottenham/

CALCIOMERCATO ROMA OSVALDO SOUTHAMPTON WOLFSBURG TOTTENHAM - As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio on its website, the Southampton expected to know the answer to Osvaldo regarding the offer made these days. Roma have accepted, missing only the yes of the player. But there are always two behind clubs like Wolfsburg and Tottenham pushing so much for the purchase of the player. Osvaldo but hopefully much in the revival of Inter, the Nerazzurri would be the first choice for Osvaldo's just that at this moment there is no offer worthy of note by the Milanese club.

I don't think he's gonna come here. He just doesn't seem to fancy us at all. The only way it could happen is if we are the only option.

I really hope we have a plan b.

I think its more acceptable in Italy for players to go from one major club to one of their "rivals" - Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that loads of players have transferred from AC, Inter, Juve etc to one of the others...eg Batistuta, Inzaghi, Nesta, Pirlo

Their managers seem to do it as well.

I'm getting definite flashbacks to the Ramirez transfer.

The difference being we had an agreement with the player long before we agree a fee with Bologna.

This time we can't get the player to agree.
