hutch Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 As I have seen very little of Osvaldo I can't really answer that - just looking at whole package - number of clubs each has had, incidents, wages. Its not just Bony though I think we could of gone for other targets as well. TBH I made a bit of a cock up with Osvaldo and the not wanting to come here as along with that twitter I thought it was him that made the ambitious club statement but checked again and that was Damiao. Fair enough, and I think that's the point, we don't know. I'm not going to criticise the club for setting our sights too high though, even if we fail, within reason.
Mr X Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 We are not a big enough club for this kind of player unfortunately , that said a player will go anywhere if the money's right as most said Ramirez wouldn't come. More money doesn't always equal a better player may be better of looking at cheaper alternatives
itchen_dan Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 @tancredipalmeri: Meanwhile, according to Sky Italy Inter manager Mazzarri has expressively requested to sign Osvaldo
SuperSAINT Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 I'd feel more confident if Inter weren't interested.
Saint Charlie Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Not sure Inter could match our financials but would most likely sway the player. Its an Osvaldo catfight today...but we have been in for him all along.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 What happens to Lambert if Osvaldo signs? Benched? Plays a Number 10 role?
Bentley Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 What happens to Lambert if Osvaldo signs? Benched? Plays a Number 10 role? Would play the Totti role that Osvaldo is used to, I'd think. False 9.
Sour Mash Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Would play the Totti role that Osvaldo is used to, I'd think. False 9. Think he'd be great at it as well, links play brilliantly.
Saint_Tony Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Hope he signs for someone soon, very much doubt it will be us. Once again wasting valuable time Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Not sure Inter could match our financials but would most likely sway the player. Its an Osvaldo catfight today...but we have been in for him all along. Never thought I'd ever see that said about little old Saints...
Sour Mash Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Never thought I'd ever see that said about little old Saints... Has their take over happened yet? Might inject some funds I'd imagine?
SuperSAINT Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Never thought I'd ever see that said about little old Saints... It caught my eye as well
Olallana Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Has their take over happened yet? Might inject some funds I'd imagine? Wont do until new year. It´s why they want to put up some sort of loan deal now with buying him next summer, but also with some sort of CL clause if I understand it correct...

That article seems like a hashing together of various snippets from twitter from the last couple of days.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Know more about Roma than I did 6 weeks ago........... They actually have a very very good squad and 4-5 that would walk into our side. Surprised they had such an average season last year.
itchen_dan Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Just been on SSN transfer centre SKY SOURCES say Southampton are in pole position to sign Osvaldo and his club are trying to persuade him to join Saints.
beavis17 Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 SSN just said we are in pole position on their transfer wiindow countdown.
itchen_dan Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Sky Sports are now running with the Osvaldo story So this IS the player we had a bid accepted for and it wasn't Damiao? Makes more sense considering it was from the Italian agent.
Saint Garrett Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Sky Sports are now running with the Osvaldo story Heard anything a bit more concrete Monk?
Saint Charlie Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Sky Sources will be the Sky Italia sources then...
lifeintheslowlane Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Do we really want him? Speaking for everyone...Yes. Of course that doesn't include you.
hutch Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Tonight's centre forwards for both England and Italy? Who wouldn't

itchen_dan Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Obviously I don't know how serious that site is but seems to be only report of a "no" so far. Let's wait to see if any more come out.
Georgie Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en?sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A//www.asromaradio.it/calciomercato/calciomercato-roma-lamela-giochera-dallinizio-contro-litalia-osvaldo-nuovo-no-al-southampton.html%3Futm_source%3Dfeedburner%26utm_medium%3Dtwitter%26utm_campaign%3DFeed%253A+ If this is the case lets just move onto the next target. He quite clearly does not want to come here!
Saint_Tony Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Once this deal collapses, who should we look to bring in then? Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
Stepgar Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en?sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A//www.asromaradio.it/calciomercato/calciomercato-roma-lamela-giochera-dallinizio-contro-litalia-osvaldo-nuovo-no-al-southampton.html%3Futm_source%3Dfeedburner%26utm_medium%3Dtwitter%26utm_campaign%3DFeed%253A+ Well if that's the case then lets move on quickly. This seems to have dragged on enough and would tie in with what people have said about a Wednesday deadline. Would have dearly loved to have seen him here but there are plenty more options out there. Just hope the club have other irons to stoke up.
Saint Charlie Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 We should find out very soon I would think.
hutch Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Obviously I don't know how serious that site is but seems to be only report of a "no" so far. Let's wait to see if any more come out. "...looks set to..." doesn't sound very conclusive.
saints_is_the_south Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Don't think it's a money issue. If Osvaldo comes here, then his chances of playing for Italy in the World Cup next summer will decrease greatly IMO. If it wasn't a World Cup year, then I suspect we'd have already signed him. Roma won't sell him to Inter, a) because they don't have the money and b) because Roma do not want to reinforce a direct rival.
Barry Sanchez Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 I have a clue and I have been saying it all along if people have listened, he will come that there is no doubt but we will have to pay an awful lot more than more fashionable clubs, Rome/Roma or Southampton? That will be the story for all players of repute.

He would be automatic choice and play near on every game. Remember the Premier League is the most popular league in the world and would be up against the best players. Fail to see how that would hinder him.
Wade Garrett Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Hope the club have a plan B to fall back on.

If yes we will have to pay more for a possible hindrance on his career.
Cabrone Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Can't see Benfica affording him. That article seems like a hashing together of various snippets from twitter from the last couple of days. Even if they could I can't see him wanting to play in the Portugese league. He wants to catch the eye of the national manager and Roma want him out of the country so that means he'd only look at Spain, England or possibly Germany IMO. We must be in with a good shout at the moment.
Bewildered Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 "looks set to." Sounds like they are guessing to me.
SNSUN Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Didn't Ramirez claim (honestly) that he'd joined us because of the money we were offering him? If so, one would think Cortese would lull Osvaldo in using this same tactic. Money talks. Even if he doesn't particularly want to be here, I think Osvaldo would soon come round to the idea once he sees what we're building here...

itchen_dan Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 I'm 99% confident meeting is about Lamela @tancredipalmeri: Tottenham is on meeting with Roma. Not clear if the subject is Lamela or Osvaldo
itchen_dan Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 @GraemeBailey: Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Roma met with Tottenham's Franco Baldini in London on Wednesday to discuss Pablo Osvaldo and Erik Lamela. @GraemeBailey: We do understand Southampton are very much in the mix for Osvaldo - but ex-Roma man Baldini knows him well and could well do a deal.
itchen_dan Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 There is not a chance Roma will sell all 3. No way. @tancredipalmeri: Tottenham/Roma meeting is about Pjanjc, Lamela and Osvaldo
Colinjb Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 Champions League, medals and a larger club? That worked for Wanyama.
Barry Sanchez Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 That worked for Wanyama. I refer to money Colin, money and Wanyama is not this high profile by a long chalk.
Saint Charlie Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 There is not a chance Roma will sell all 3. No way. @tancredipalmeri: Tottenham/Roma meeting is about Pjanjc, Lamela and Osvaldo Nor that Spurs want all three. Osvaldo will leave it seems, hopefully Spurs are more keen on Lamela, especially after already having Soldado.
Colinjb Posted 14 August, 2013 Posted 14 August, 2013 I refer to money Colin, money and Wanyama is no this high profile by a long chalk. True. But these things are not impossible.

That will be the story for all players of repute. I must have missed this.
