Players wanted - 11-a-side tournament in Preston, 20/21 July

The internet fans' team is taking part in the annual WorldNET tournament in Preston next weekend, we've currently got a squad of 12 but could do with swelling those numbers up to 14 or 15 if possible.

The tournament runs over both Saturday and Sunday, with 3 group games on the Saturday and a knockout competition on the Sunday. Games are 11-a-side, 15 minutes each way.

Naturally at this relatively short notice, this would ideally suit someone living in or near Lancashire, although I may be able to get accommodation for the Friday and Saturday nights, which would be £50 on a room-only basis.

If anyone's interested, please let me know asap. :toppa:

Hi Steve,

I've just texted Juddy and another mate (Adam), Will let you know what they say, as it looks like i'll be going up from Southampton on the Friday but gonna have to swing by Leeds on the way up for a work meeting, so i've told them they can jump in with me if needs be.

I'm just pleased we have 12... I thought it was only the bare 11!

Steve, are the pitches going to be ridiculously dry up there, or has it been the case where they've been nice to everyone and given them a cheeky water (thought I'd ask as after all they are uni pitches)

Might need to look out for a cheap pair of moulded studs if they're going to be as dry as hell.

Pitch update the grass is now going a sort of creamy white colour lol but there still in great nick lots of lush grass still under foot but a good downpour wouldn't go amiss but they do put the sprinklers on at midnight every night.

PS Their are a couple of wild deer roaming about but if they do run across your pitch just let them!

So they do have sprinklers on them apparently...

Steve said one of the pitches was 3G' date=' but having seen the lineup we play all three games on the Saturday on different pitches so probably worth taking boots for all eventualities.[/quote']

One of the pitches (where we play our first game) is a "Desso" pitch, which is 95% regular grass with 5% artificial woven into it. No idea how it works, but it's the surface they use at the Emirates, and it's supposed to be like a carpet.

We currently have 13 players, but two of those seem to have gone completely off the grid in the last couple of months so not 100% sure if they can be relied upon to turn up. As a result, it would be great if we could get another couple of players on board.

Understatement of the day. Week. Year in fact.

As I've mentioned in the Facebook group - If anyone's looking for a lift from Southampton, drop me a message on this thread and let me know, I've got to do a stop in Leeds on the way for a work meeting, but after that, its full steam ahead to Preston.

Oh, and in an unprecedented turn of events, the Lung has formally declared himself unavailable BEFORE the event actually begins. This is some kind of breakthrough in Lung/Reality relations. :).

What a morale booster for the rest of the squad...

My predictions would be many injuries and knocked out at the first possible point!!

All wind and no fart.

Good luck anyways

Nah, we either finish in the top 2 and go into the Cup then lose in the first knockout round against someone half decent, or we come 3rd out of 4 in the group and win at least one knockout in the Plate competition. We're used to the injuries (especially me) !

I'll come if someone gives me free travel and a free bed. If not I will accept someone's floor. Any offers?

If your track record is anything to go by you'll spend most of the time tucked up in your bed and miss all the games.

Hey Turks, we need a string pulling midfield passer, you're in the general vicinity (kind of). Come to Preston for the lolz and run the match with your silky skills. Bring the mascot. We will all pretend you were someone else for the purposes of m-boarding... ;)

Is love to come along but sadly I'm down south this weekend. :)

A mighty  performance from the 11 of us that turned up, losing 2-0 to Darlington (who eventually lost the Plate final on pens) on the biggest pitch I've ever seen in my life in 30 degree heat, losing 3-0 to Man City (who we stuffed first half), and then conceding in the last minute and only drawing 1-1 with Ipswich to prop up the group on Saturday. Top two into the cup, bottom two into the plate.

Sunday morning's Plate first round saw us drawn against Troon (they have a Scottish Junior side apparently), and after taking the lead in the second half, we again conceded a late equaliser, this time direct from a corner, and when 10 minutes' worth of Golden Goal failed to see a goal, it went to pens.

Eighteen pens. And we lost 8-7, having stuck a pen to win it at 6-6 into a tree across a road behind the goal.

Still, got home just after 5 today, found a nice Chinese buffet and decent bars in Preston, and played on some excellent pitches, well done Steve Grant (yes, that one) for co-organising it.

Bloody typical, our second and third opponents' group match gets on Sky Sports News !!!

Hopefully this will work...

If not, here's the location, accompanied by an unnecessary Coldplay remix :

First pitch shown was where we played this morning, second pitch (behind the closed gate) was the massive pitch we played our opening game on yesterday.

I thought we did ok all things considered. Makeshift team, people out of position, and we only play together once or twice a year. These other teams play regularly and all that stuff so once we sorted ourselves out a bit and got used to each other we were more solid.

Above all it was a good laugh and in terms of facilities and organisation this years effort blew Leeds out of the water. A shame more Saints fans don't want to get involved but hopefully that will change in the future!

I didn't play 11's this past season so fair to say I am feeling it a bit now but I don't think I'll ever be able to stop throwing myself about on the pitch when the competitive juices get flowing.

Sounds like I may see most of you for the game against West Brom fans the morning before the season opener.

The video confirms what we were told about the Desso pitch being made bigger then - in the video the goal behind the gate is a good 15-20 yards away, whereas over the weekend it was stuck neat against the back.

You let your mongboard down chaps. I suggest an overhaul from grass roots level up and sacking Steve grant and employing some sharp suited foreign coach to take us to the next level.

I can assure you a full pitch pressing game would not have left us conceding any fewer late goals... ;)

I wouldn't have minded, but I played well against Troon (for my standard), and only ballsed it up by being "the one" that skied* the pen at 6-6 to win it.

*this is probably the nicest way I can put it, Its probably come back with a bit of the O-zone layer on it.

You have now lost the moral right to complain when Saints do the same ;)

I haven't, as a lazy striker I am blameless for our crappy defensive errors.

Mumble mumble something about not actually scoring in 4 matches.
