Bit of a different experience to last year when the game was played out in winter like conditions and the car park area was a quagmire!!

talking of car park....how is the parking down there?

I think it will be interesting to see who don't play more than who does, from the point of view that an omission may suggest first team involvement later on in pre-season.

I'll be there. I never pay to see first team friendlies but do for the nippers.

Not sure that makes any sense but that's how I roll.

Seems strange to see Chambers only on the bench

So they are playing in the yellow umbro kit with a bit of duck tape stuck over the badge.

Yep, it sure is happening.

Used to post on here a lot, but not anymore respectively.

Just wanted to say, I was surprised to see Pochettino at the game, let alone Nicola Cortese. Now that's dedication.

Tried over hearing a convo with JT and someone in the crowd when he came off, but all I heard was that Sinclair was a good cook, and Reeves is on trial somewhere.

Cracking game, great goal by Isgrove and Rowe was it in the second half? #11?

welcome back MB, a Saintsweb legend!!!

We could have had 6 in the first half. Plenty of easy chances going begging.

Thought Isgrove was the pick. Made some lovely mazy runs cutting in from the wing and ghosting past players like they weren't there. Made lots of subs second half. Players that had gone off even came back on again.

I didn't see Cortese or Pochettino but heard the Wanyama stuff from a bloke in the crowd.

Welcome back. Please post more often sir :)

Lloyd Isgrove was stand out player for me. Quick feet, good skill. Omar is lightning quick. Sinclair will try his luck from anywhere, lively player who holds it up well. We press from the top and play one touch. Not a bad run out.

so, just back from the game and I must say it's my first time to Sholing, what a smart little ground and a fantastic pitch. Good turnout as well.

Good to see the youngsters play, some impressed, others didn't - good to see Pochettino and his 3 assistants there, along with NC and another businessman who I'm unsure of. Les Reed popped along hastily in the last 10 mins.

On the pitch, Stephens, Isgrove and Rowe impressed me the most - all very good and I can see why all 3 are rated so highly. The latter is electric, a bit selfish, but a cracking little winger. Direct, skillful and powerful for someone of his size. Stephens lead the team well, he's a confident leader who clearly has learnt from Jaidi. The lad Mugabi who came on a CB is the only one who gets anywhere near the size of RJ - we must have had an average height of about 5"5.

Off the pitch, I was stood about 5ft away from MP (who for the record speaks very good English) all I got from him at the start was "it's a wonderful day" - he said maybe to Wanyama but Messi "doesn't want to join".

Overheard an interesting conversation between Reed, NC and one of the coaching staff. Reed said "we just need to get his passport stamped and work permit [something]" to which I heard Wanyama's name mentioned twice....read into that what you will.

Could not have been talking about Wanyama then. He already has a valid passport and work permit

Would still need a copy of both from him to be checked and recorded.

read the next part of my post. It was definitely Wanyama

I did, and I meant no disresrect to you s/s

As Wanyama is / was away with the Celtic squad, I would have assumed he already had the necessary passport and papers to allow him to travel and play ?

You're right he would do, however its exactly the same as when your or I change jobs/employers, they still need a passport and all relevant paperwork signed, stamped etc. by the new employers. Can't even be scanned think someone at SFC literally would have to see his documents before signing them... Which as he is away with celtic (and needs his passport with him) may be the cause in the delay.

Changing employer still means you need to reapply for the permit...

It was definitely him they were on about. As others have said, because he's not a UK passport holder his documents need to be updated

Agree with Cat.

U21's dominated the match and could well have racked up double figures

Finishing was rather woeful at times and Sholing's replacement keeper made two excellent saves 2nd half.

For those with an interest in fashion Cortese was stood by the dug out in a blue suit whilst Pocch was casually attired in black track suit with white edging.

There was a big coaching staff on hand including Jahidi.

Les Reed mentioned that they had all the paperwork sorted for the little lad who went to Liverpool (cant remember how to spell his name) but he changed his mind at the 11th hour when the rival offer came in.

Will be interesting to see how the U21's perform when they step up a few levels against Eastleigh

btw the new shirt, as sported by a few in the crowd of 360, is more disappointing in the flesh than as shown in pictures.

anyone that saw the game, how did Targett play?

Didn't have a lot to do defensively. Comfortable on the ball, rarely wasted possession, picked out some decent passes and got forward a few times.

Plays uncannily like Luke Shaw did in the U18's.

Quite liked the RB who played first half (was he Callum Chambers but did he come on 2nd half?)

Unfortunately the match programme was full of a few errors so not sure who exactly was who

Matt Young.

Didn't do much wrong but didn't stand out. Harrison Reed had a good game, as did Corby Moore before going off

Funnily enough, that's what was said about Bale too... they didn't exactly stand out when in the Academy sides. They were clearly comfortable and competent, but defenders rarely stand out as much, IMO, because they're not headline-grabbing by scoring a hatful of goals, or setting up every other goal the team scores.

I saw Shaw a few times for the U18's and it was only the last time (the FA Cup defeat to Forest) when he really stood out above the rest by making a huge number of forward runs and taking control of the game.

At that age I tend to look for technical elements. Control, technique, awareness, distribution, runs off the ball, concentration. If players have those assets firmly in place at a young age then there's a good chance they'll turn out to be a decent pro.

The same thing held up Radhi Jaidi's signing for several weeks.
