Inexperience in the Transfer Market

Just one simple thought....

I am pretty sure a lof of people would say that paying over the top to clubs, agent and players would be proof of inexperience, not the opposite.....

I think inexperience is the wrong word though. We seem to be naive of how the transfer game works. Not being held to ransom but at the top level you have to compete with other clubs in the transfer market, and to steal a march on them you've got to at least match what they're prepared to pay everyone involved in the deal. If you don't you can't compete at that level.

People only a few months ago were applauding Cortese and his plan, Christ it does not take much to derail faith, he is out of his depth and always has been when it comes to this.

For me its fairly simple when it comes to the transfers / linked players so far. The good and proven ones like Osvaldo, Ever B and that Nagalin or what ever his name is are always going to choose the top 4 -8 clubs over a club that was in the 3rd tier a few seasons ago and only just managed to stay up last season. Especially with a World Cup round the corner, they ain't going to get picked playing in the championship.

I mean if you were offered palace or Spurs who would you sign for ? A team that finished 5th and will not go down or a team that's just been promoted ?

The Wanyama thing is clearly all about money on his / his agents part. Thing is he would of signed for Arsenal or Man U by now if he really was that good as they would of been after him, think we may of dodged a bullet there.

IMO of course.

The table from the end of the January transfer window to the end of the season, covering the last 14 games had us 10th. Even the whole season, starting without Boruc , Yoshida, Ramirez in the squad had a decent final position.

Looking at squad our first choice outfield players could easily have Lambert at 31, then Lallana the next oldest at 25 - 9 players likely to be at least 3 years from their peak.

I would be relaxed if window shut without anyone else.

But to keep moving forward we will sign more.

The confirmation from Celtic and signing of Lovren shows we are being active.

Every club has mixed bag of good/bad/indifferent with signings bit no club has progressed as much, and every window, for last 8, or whatever, windows since NC is here.

That's is more factual than an attention seeking writer on twitter with less evidence of success.

Les Reed - no idea what he is like, but appointed in 2010 to head up football performance - in league 1, reckon a case that he may have got something right!

If we have had terrible window look at palace, Everton, man u, Newcastle, spurs, west brom - clueless inexperienced clubs!

We all know, (well one person forgets every window) that most transfers are concluded last minute.

So relax and enjoy the random rumours....there isn't a problem!

Another interesting exchange between some Saints fans and Alan Nixon on twitter earlier:

gregvul: @reluctantnicko did pochettino presser open any doors for you Al?

reluctantnicko: @gregvul Talk. More interested in action.

Jayrodfan2: @reluctantnicko @gregvul can youu see us signing any of the three?

Greyvul: @reluctantnicko so you don't think they are near on any player then?

reluctantnicko: @Jayrodfan2 @gregvul Targets confirmed. But none delivered in over a month now...Wanyama is a mess. The others? Not that easy either.

reluctantnicko: @gregvul Interested that Poch named them all ... so they've been legit. But all of them very hard to crack.

Jayrodfan2: @reluctantnicko @gregvul ok so they the 3 main targets? Can you see Wanyama being sorted, what points other desks at?

Jayrodfan 2: @reluctantnicko @gregvul hope we get them

gregvul: @reluctantnicko he said all the named playerd would be happy to sign. Weird.

reluctantnicko: @gregvul Words. Mean nothing. Money does.

Jayrodfan2: @reluctantnicko @gregvul you reckon deals will be sorted

gregvul: @reluctnantnicko cheers Al, hopefully things will start to unravel soon

Jayrodfan2: @gregvul @reluctantnicko ye hopefully all we all get all 3

He is inexperienced in bringing in the type of players we have been linked with this window i.e. players who should be playing for top European teams.

Isn't the point that because we're not a top European team we will find it difficult to sign players good enough to play for top European teams irrespective of how experienced we are in the transfer market ?
