Lowe on radio now

What I've heard from Rupert so far, and what Dennis has commented on, is that Rupert has said that players who get a better deal from elsewhere will be allowed to go. We will not stand in their way, even though we would like them to stay.

That is typical Rupert speak. He is saying it as he sees it. There's nothing wrong with that statement, but the attitude is completely wrong. If he'd said Saints would fight tooth and nail to keep players, but ultimately, if they wanted to leave, we'd make sure we got the very most for them... then I don't think he'd receive much criticism. But sadly, Rupert doesn't exhibit enough passion for a significant amount of fans.

Rupert does HOPE to keep the present players though.

But as the guy said Lowe has the power to make them stay. If he really wants them to stay he will do a Fergie/O'Neil and tell them to fook off. But he isn't saying that is he. He is basically saying we will sell them at the right price.

That's true, and that is what Mark Dennis finds staggering. He feels Rupert is too quick to release players, and doesn't put up enough fight.

Rupert on after adverts.

He just said that in his time as Chairman the only young player he sold was Theo and that was because he wanted to leave. He blames the previous chairmans for selling Bale,KJ,Baird,Best etc..

That to me just shows the guy is up his own arse as Bale said he would leave a year before he actually went and went because he wanted to play in prem league. Baird left for pretty much same reason as KJ as wanted to play for a better team. I felt we got a good deal for KJ....And Best left because he wasen't played i thought?

And Crouch is on now

Then i will re-iterate what i said. Anyone who really thinks Lowe does not want to/need to sell players in january and it is down to them if they leave is an idiot. Time will tell but i have no doubt i will be resurecting this thread in 4 weeks or so and saying you were one of the idiots when they go.

Never an idiot but forever an optimist. However if they leave it's because they want to leave for better pastures. However if it's because Lowe wanted to sell them then feel free to to provide the link when you resurect this thread. If you don't have a link then please do not resurect this thread as your thoughts would be to suit your own agenda only.

Crouch said:

Reason the club spent the 7m was because Wilde came in saying he will put the money into the club and would put his own money in. He mislead the board and fans.

He put his own money into the club to try and help change the club for the better. Wilde and Lowe have not put a penny in. He said he would put 2m into the club if Wilde would to show the commitment both had to the club.

Paul Allen WAS interested in the club.

Wilde is a "Turncoat" and turned on the fans.

Wilde and Lowe created the mess and they are the two who have to clean it up not blame it on everyone else.

Bet Lowe is quotes only. Doubt he will be live.

You are almost certainly right, as Crouch is going for blood, and Dennis and the Radio Hampshire programme are generally being sympathetic with his views.

Crouch saying Lowe is a liability, and believes 5-6000 fans are not coming due to Lowe and Wilde.

Dennis now highlighting Guy Askham. Said he's sold his soul for pieces of silver. This is extreme stuff.

Again SW if Lowe did not want to sell them he can say they are not for sale. He hasen't done that and he won't do that. he said he will do "whats right by the club and the shareholders" if you translate that into meaning he doesn't want the players to go then that is your opinion. One that in my view looks pretty silly.

Crouch:

"The directors have all made a lot of money from the club, they should put their hands in their pockets and give some back".

We need the fans and we need to get them on board. They need to come back and they need to support the young players.

You start selling the young players the fans will rebel even more.

The young players are the future of our club and if they are sold we have no future

Wants someone to come in who has passion for the club, he was proud to be apart of the club.

While the people are at the club the club will never come together.

We can beat Man Utd

Missed only 1 game"

Can anyone see Lowe giving anything back?

He's only at Saints for what he can out of it.

Hello... my pet bone chew has just come up. Guy Askham has been brought up by a fan as a slinking weasel, who seems to walk in the shadows. Dennis agreeing 100%.

Have to say, although I'm not a Lowe fan, I think he does have many good points. But Guy Askham makes my blood boil. He has been in the background all the time, and made huge amounts of money. AND prevented other directors from selling their shares at a profit in the distant past. Only to benefit him eventually.

Dennis says he's named and shamed. :D

I like this passion from Mark Dennis, whether he's right or not.

true, but will make more if we return to premiership.

it also applies to the players btw

We need extra revenue and for crouch to call for the likes of Lowe and Snake to put their hands in their pockets suggests Crouch would match their investment.

As for players being in it for the money i accepts that's how it is now, but Lowe is just a leech that brings nothing to the club apart from negativity and division.

I inserted the bit you missed, the last three words in bold, you presumably missed it out as it doesn't fit in with your argument. He could say they are not for sale but why should you stop a player moving to the premiership to enhance his career. But as I have said previously if Lowe sells against their wishes then please provide a link for me. Thanks.

Crouch asking for fans to return. Said we are going in the right direction. Realises fans will not easily return, and Rupert needs to realise that, and NOT to sell the best and young players. Sell off or loan out the expensive players.

That's what we should be doing and hopefully will happen to keep the youngsters.

All this is making for very interesting listening.

It would be brilliant if Rupert rung up to fight his corner.

Now that would be entertaining. I'm sure Rupert is currently a deep shade of beetroot if he's listening.

More quotes from Rupert:

Disputes media saying we need to sell. Fair enough comment IMO.

Dennis staggered at Rupert's overall comments again. That is regarding Rupert's attitude towards success. Where are Saints successful..? asks Dennis. Only at bringing players on through an academy that provides money to the club, which disappears.

Now saying Rupert tries to baffle people with his Oxford speak. It doesn't baffle Dennis, according to himself. :D

Either Paul Allen is a liar or Crouch is a liar. Which do you believe, the worlds biggest benefactor who has absolutely no reason to lie or the excuse why we kept hanging out for investment?

I would like to know all about this money that Crouch put into the club, where it went, did it stay there or just another I will if you will.

Wilde and Lowe both have a responsibility for where we are now, but equally so does the idiot Crouch.

We are not in a desperate situation. We can last a year or even further without investment. A lot of people have been talking Southampton Football Club down and they should not be. It is a great club and we are not in the position people are trying to portray in the media. Those criticisms are unfair. It was a difficult situation with SISU. We are not rock bottom or in a situation where we have to take a proposal from organisations who want to buy us on the cheap.

Saints have knocked back reports that they have approached Arsenal to try and to reach an early cash settlement on the Theo Walcott deal in order to head off administration. The club have strongly denied suggestions in a national newspaper that they have exceeded their overdraft limit and are under pressure from the bank. Chairman Leon Crouch said: "There is a lot we would like to say in response to this story but unfortunately we have been placed in an offer period by the Stock Exchange who insist that we remain in it and whose rules therefore prevent us from talking about financial matters.

We have no intention of selling our best players. There is a new board now and we will draw a line under everything that has gone before. As far as I am concerned we are going forward now with a good squad of players. We have assets and the reduced number of executives means we now have a leaner and meaner board. All clubs in the Championship need money and we are in the same situation but we have better facilities than a lot of the clubs in this league, we have a good squad of players and we have assets. We are definitely not in a position like Coventry who were rock bottom.

Somehow I doubt he is listening and if he was he will not be phased by the rants of Mark Dennis.

Crouch was sincere and passionate.

Let's face it, Dennis was always going to be slightly anti-Lowe, or at least remain-to-be-convinced by Rupert, as Mark is from the era of Lawrie, and I know he thinks the sun rises and sets on the big Geordie. You can't criticise his loyalty either, as Lawrie turned Mark from being a very high quality defender, but a thug, into a very high quality, and passionate player.

The statement that he resigned because of a failure to raise finance was only issued to try and reduce fans unrealistic expectations. IMO, it was through Wilde's efforts, that PA was clearly aware that his approach would be welcomed rather than shunned and this is a big factor when looking at a potential acquisition. We now know that PA had contact with the club several months ago, before MW's resignation. IMO it is down to Wilde that we now have this opportunity to stabilise and secure the long term future of the club. If this takeover goes through I think we all owe him bigtime.
