Saint Troy Posted 2 July, 2013 Share Posted 2 July, 2013 Apologies if not directly saints related / already been mentioned somewhere I didnt spot so feel free to move if needed - thought it quite relevant given that if a threads not about our new kit its likely about a transfer that in truth the statistics will show simply aint going to happen. Interesting article associated with dealings in the press this time of year http://blog.emiratesstadium.info/archives/29697?

DuncanRG Posted 2 July, 2013 Share Posted 2 July, 2013 (edited) Because reports don't say 'this is now a done deal and will happen' - they say Player X is talking to Club Y, or Club Z has had a bid accepted. All of these things may be true but that doesn't mean that the transfers concerned will go through, and we will never know what happened if not. This is why it's silly to judge media organisations on how many of their stories actually end up leading to transfers - it doesn't make their stories any more or less true unless they say 'this player will sign'. When stories say that they are almost always right; when they report on preliminary negotiations etc it is purely down to chance whether or not the transfer actually happens. But this is about professional journalists rather than trolls and bored kids who make stuff up - and this is an interesting article on that subject. Turkish Posted 2 July, 2013 Share Posted 2 July, 2013 (edited) Because 20 years ago deals just happened when the clubs released a statement via the media, no one Knew anything about it until a deal was very close or done. Now rumours true or not are all over twitter, Facebook and mongboards as well as the relentless thirst for info most fans have with fans stalking journos on twitter to be the be the first to get tweets from them and to post it on their clubs mongboard which means even the vaguest rumour gets column inches on the papers and websites. People can't kid chill out anymore and enjoy the summer they need information and they need it now. That's why 95% of rumours don't come off. The internet has fueled the demand for non-stop updates and news. That's why it makes me laugh when you see the likes of Alpine hyperventilating because Cardiff have been linked with 4 players, but we've only been linked with 3. What are we doing, why are we sat on our arses etc etc etc.
