Lee Molyneux

Recommended Posts

Just seen this on the Beeb site:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23088215

Thought he was pretty pants in his 4 games for us at left back but good to see he is now carving out a career in the lower leagues as a winger. 8 goals in 12 games is fairly impressive stuff and now he's moved to Crewe, he'll get a chance to see if he can cut it at League 1 level.

I had the dubious pleasure of seeing his Saints debut at Barnsley. I thought his performance was of Ali Dia proportions and (iirc) he was incredibly lucky to stay on the pitch. Somehow we won the game but it was one of the last highspots in a season of abject failure which was typified by the acquisition of Mr Molyneux.

When I lived in Liverpool, I used to work with a guy who was/is very good friends with him. He told me about the transfer before Saints announced it, but couldn't quite believe it as he reckoned Molyneux was Sunday league level at best. Big reputation for going out on the lash and poor discipline. Seemingly happy to waste his career away in the reserves while picking up a handsome pay cheque.

From what I remember he was training with us for a few weeks before the signing was announced....so we'd already had a good look at him up close and still decided to sign him - how things have changed!

That was Lowes Dutch season IIRC. Tried doing what we're doing now - signing young players - only he did it signing the scraps that nobody else wanted, rather than aiming for the cream of the crop.

er hrm......(Molyneux aside).......we may be back to signing " the scraps that nobody else wanted " - if we don't land one or two of these " highly-rated " 15 million deals from Europe.

.....ever so slightly motivated by the fact we were skint.

(Morgan turned out okay, though).

Wish I could remember that loanee midfielder we got in from Chelsea. I expect he sank without trace.

goes to show that whilst you do get some that develop later, the exceptions, most of those 'released' do tend not to be up to the level needed... How many of Hoddle's school for the released have come back as high level performers?

Saddest is the wasted talent.... Those you don't progress because of attitude to working hard.

Having Exeter, Torquay and Plymouth in our region, I see more L2 football than most Saints fans and judging by his form for Stanley he has realised that it is last chance saloon. Many of those 8 goals were 30 yard worldy specials and should do well at Crewe. L1 is probably right for him as a winger, can't see him above L1 and he was never a left back in the first place. I'd be wary of judging any of our young players from 08/09 based on their time at Saints as the club was run by people who should never have been there and was in total freefall. Thank God for Markus and NC. Even though we started badly in L1, the teamsheet told you we'd turn it around. With the 08/09 team, JP and Wotte did pretty well to get over 30 points out of that team. Morgan, Lallana and Kelvin's form were the only good things that emerged from 08/09.

Lee Molyneux trolling Saints fans on twitter. ****.

Lee Molyneux ‏@Moly24 1h

Think it will kick off if Bill doesn't have replacements lined up for Baines and Fellaini if the rumours are true. Shaw & McCarthy will do.

Lee Molyneux ‏@Moly24 1h

@EammonRyan8 Still better than Southampton. You ask Shaw if he'd turn down Everton and his answer will be "No".

Lee Molyneux ‏@Moly24 1h

@Appy0911 Southampton=small club. Everton=big club. He'll see what it's done for Rooney, Arteta, Lescott and maybe Baines. He'd love it.

Lee Molyneux ‏@Moly24 40m

Few bites from the Southampton fans. Small club syndrome it must be. Spent a few quid this summer and still light years away from Everton.

Lee Molyneux ‏@Moly24 37m

Imagine when Luke Shaw signs for Everton, Morgan goes back to France and Lallana wants a move to a top 10 club. Saints maybe the new Pompey.

Lee Molyneux ‏@Moly24 28m

He doesn't want to end up being relegated with his boyhood club. He'd rather leave to a good stepping stone club like EFC or Spurs haha

What bizarre behaviour! Obviously has a very large scouser sized chip on his shoulder.

Bizarre behaviour. Maybe he was absolutely rat arsed, or it's someone else messing around with his twitter account.

Calling Saints a small club doesn't make a lot of sense when you play for Crewe. Neither does saying we are light years away from a club currently below us in the League.

Football fans call other clubs small all the time, without playing for anybody.

True, although usually out of shear ignorance. There is nothing wrong with being a small club I don't get why it's used as an insult so much. I just thought a player employed by Crewe would have a bit more respect for 'small clubs' like Saints who only have 32,000 sell outs at most of their games (Yes I know Goodison is bigger).

His point about Rooney, Arteta and Lescott doesn't make sense either. The latter 2 were both 23 already when they joined Everton so hardly youth development. If he's claiming them then we can claim Lambert, Beattie and Crouch all getting into the England team.

Christ, you must have proper insulted him to produce such stinging invective. ;) We're here for you if you need to talk about it.

I was actually just trying to have a serious football conversation with him, then he got all precious.

He makes it into many posters' Saints all time worst 11. He was absolutely ****. He was so far out of his depth it wasn't true.

Interesting tweets from him about Baines/Shaw. Would Shaw actually move to Everton should they try to replace Baines him? Everton are a bigger club, but are they big enough?

Nope. Everton can't afford him for a start, and I expect them to have a slow downturn in league standings over the next few years with Martinez in charge.

A toss up between him and Stephen O'Halloran for me. Signed purely to promote an u21 international happening at St Mary's.

A bigger club because they won the league twice 30 years ago, perhaps. I'm not sure how that really translates for a modern day player though. I doubt playing in front of an extra 7 or 8 thousand will mean all that much to him and Everton wont be able to offer him Champions League football or extra cash.

Fact agent true.

Money grabbers, how does Lee have an agent?

10/20% ?

Mercenary Lee.

Get rid of agent, he was your worst ever decision, you will regret.

He ruined your career.

You could have been a Baines if it was not for your agent....
