Leandro Damiao!

Nicky shouldn't be distracting himself with this nonsense. If we want a striker, we should just sign someone like Kenwyn Jones or Charlie Austin and stop embarrassing ourselves with interest in players we can never sign. All that time messing about with Wanyama will cost us

Talk about strawmen - Wanyama is arguably a realistic target for us. It's not as if he's regularly proven himself at the highest or that his game is polished and complete.

Internacional have rubbished rumors linking striker Leandro Damião to English Premier League club Southampton.

Sky Sport Italia claimed that the English club are ready to offer 20 million euros for the strikers.

Internacional's director of football Luís César Souto de Moura talked with Esporte Interativo about the rumors.

The director of football said: "Nothing has come, clubs from everywhere sound him out all the time, but we don't even consider that anymore, as there are too many inquiries but offers never come.

Seems like this rumour is starting to pick up speed, however no clubs been mentioned specifically so it could equally be Spurs as they have a long history of chasing him... By God i'd hate to see their forum thread on him! It'd be like Gaston's x 100!

How good is he? excuse my ignorance... 25 million euros should get someone amazing...anyone seen him play?

When i was living in Brazil a couple of my mates from work used to go and see Inter. They said he was awful, the only Brazilain they've ever seen with no skill, couldn't trap a bag of cement and they cant kick it as far as he controls it. In one game against Fluminese they saw him play in he missed two open goals from 6 yards, 3 one on ones and fell over when he had a free header from 6 yards out, although they did say his moment off the ball was as good as Gordon Hobsons. One to be avoided.

Good piece on Damiao......although according to Nixon he doesn´t play for Brazil....

For the record, he has 17 caps and was only out for Confed Cup due to injury....

you can cross Marseille off of the list, bunch of skinflints would never pay 20 million, unless of course Internacional were willing to take Gignac off their hands for 19.99 million..

This isnt happening. Player wont want to come

What sort of reputation does MP have in South America? Maybe he can attract a Brazilian to the club - isn't that one of the reasons he was appointed in the first place?

From the Standard

Tottenham have ended their interest in Internacional striker Leandro Damiao and Southampton are stepping up their attempts to sign him instead.

Spurs have been chasing the Brazil international for the past two years, but have grown frustrated during negotiations with Internacional and are now looking elsewhere for a forward.

His goal record isn't that spectacular but you don't play as a striker for Brazil unless you are decent (or Jo).

if we could deal with the club he would probs be keen as its a PL move.

82 in 147 is bloody fantastic for a 23 year-old, even if it's 'just Brazil'...which is cobblers anyway. If he's good enough for Champions League Spurs to be chasing him for this long then he's good enough for us.

FYI that's a better goalscoring ratio than Neymar

less than a goal a game in a poor league. I would say he's goalscoring record is average at best.

I actually think Austin would be a good signing!

I thought so too but was speaking to a Burnley fan about him the other day. He is a goal poacher - and a very effective one at that if you look at his scoring rate. But that aside they don't rate him much in other areas and as we have seen from saints, the coaching staff demand hard work all over the pitch. So on reflection, I wonder whether he is a bit too much like Billy Sharp. I still believe Billy has something to offer but you only need one of him. Someone on the bench to come on as an impact player.

Sadly, I don't think the coaching staff necessarily share my view.

Not getting my hopes up, but given that Spurs are the only club in England to be credited with interest it's hardly inconceivable that we might sign him. Don't expect wages to be much of an issue, but just whether the third-party nonsense over in Brazil will try Nicola's patience too much. The real fear is that we are becoming a stalking-horse for agents to smoke out interest from bigger clubs. As frustrating as this can be it's going to be a phase that we will have to put up. Once we've landed a few more of these supposedly 'unrealistic' targets than hopefully the press will take us a bit more seriously, and in turn, we won't get d*cked around by agents quite as much.

Plausible.

Agent told to STFU- that's got NC's fingerprints on it. Internacional playing straight bat. Ditto.

Age 23. That is a good age, and the age of a player or players we are reputedly / allegedly looking at.

Centre-forward. We are in need of one so its no surprise.

Brazilian number 9 though? In a World Cup year for a World Cup taking place in Brazil? GTFOOH!!! This would be our biggest and highest world wide profile signing ever. Fast forward thirteen or so months and that player could be lifting the Jules Rimet trophy on tv in front of a world wide audience of billions having been highest goalscorer in the Tournament,.....and the whole world would know he plays for.....Southampton. It guarantees full houses this season home and away. Its a massive move to enter the big league. Damiao joins and I bet you all the dithering Banegas and Astoris and Naingolans and Stochs all rush to sign up too...

But i give it a 10% chance im sorry to say- mega delighted to be proved wrong, but more likely if the bloke does leave its for a CL team.

Oh- and if he does join, he does play WC and Brazil do win - his value doubles overnight. So it makes commercial sense too. You need to get your brazilians in now....after Brazil win the WC next year they will all be much more expensive.

ps. I don't mean getting your bits waxed to landing strip dimensions either, i mean proper players ;-)

Haven't checked multiple sources but here it suggests that is not accurate:

To be fair I've been lazy and gone with Wikipedia.

Both sets of stats are right. His overall goalscoring record is massively skewed by his goals in Campeonato Gaúcho, which is essentially, a regional league. He's bagged 40 in 52 games. Internacional have won the thing 42 times as well.

The highlighted is a very good point and something I´ve been thinking about. Should we be prepared to pay that extra money to make a marque signing that will trigger other players in that caliber to join us. It can be hard to get that first one but as soon as you get one it might be easier to get others in.

The 'Robinho' effect as Manchester City call it.

Were they getting confused with Guly?
