Leandro Damiao!

Did he look sad at the final whistle, shed a tear, wave to the crowd and hand his shirt to a small child?

Think you have to take that question with ART, Bazza and those guys that can judge by looking at Ramirez that he dont want to be here..... ;)

I doubt that Damiao, Banega or Osvaldo were even in the slightest bit interested in us.

We have been wasting our time in a fruitless and embarassing pursuit of these players.

Personally wouldnt have minded seeing us going for someone like Arnautovic from Werder Bremen, but then he doesnt play the "southampton way"

Dunno Alps, I'd be v.surprised if all 3 ultimately decide to stick around earning less money at their current clubs. They'd be v.unusual footballers if that was the case! I'm predicting deadline deals if they don't get better offer from big club.

They were the smokescreen whilst the Rooney to Chelsea, Torres to Saints deal gets sorted.

Depends what Chelsea do in the window. Sign a striker and we'd be in with a chance.

Even if they sign Rooney they only have Ba,Torres and Lukaku,Schurle is a winger/inside fwd.

If anyone leaves Chelsea it will be Ba,and I will be surprised if they could shift him as his wages will be ridic

If they sign Rooney I don't think they'd turn down 20/25mill for Lukaku.

I bet they would considering they signed him for £17 mill (with add ons)

He is very young and looks very much like a player that fits the Drogba mould, give him a season or two in a team like Chelsea and the guy will be world class,he will be unplayable like Drogba was in his prime.

With the prices being thrown around for Bale/Suarez I would imagine every forwards price has gone up by 20%

£30 mill + and they may sell you Lukaku

Mourinho didn't sign him though and it'd be one of the rare occasions they've made a profit on a transfer. He's not worth anything close to 30mill, 20 is generous, one good season doesn't make you a world class striker.

I never said he was a world class Striker,I said give him a few seasons in that Chelsea team and he will be World class.

Mourinho didnt sign him but he has come out and said that Lukaku is likely to be leading the line this season, and that De Bruyne and Lukaku are going nowhere this season.

The first line is fine as it's your doubts. But by the second line you're stating fact again, when it should just be your opinion.

As for 'embarrassing'? No. The wider football world has little clue and zero interest in our transfer policy. Embarrassing would be signing Nigel Quashie.

Knock it off with the pedantry. No one here preceeds their opinion pieces with "in my opinion". And it has been fruitless. Have any of the three signed ?

Could have said the same for Wanyama and Lovren (who are of similar calibre) but we pulled those two off. We are never going to change the perception of the club if fans get embarrassed by the fact that we are targeting high quality players. It might be frustrating but we are going to get plenty of players rejecting us on the way to competing for top six - same happened with Citeh, same will happen with us.

It's no where near the end of the window yet and we've already nabbed two players that by outside 'reputation' alone, we had no right to go for. Surely a bit of perspective is called for and we actually start to appreciate the business we have done so far?

If we don't get Damiao then if Rickie gets injured I think we have to just insert Mayuka, keep the other ten players and playing style as is with slight adjustments and hope it works. The guy is supposed to be a top forward, so its show it time.

The other most likely option is to push Jrod further up and replace his position with Mayuka or another AM such as Punch or AL, assuming one of those is on the bench otherwise.

I'm assuming if fit SRL must start- might be a contentious one for some but not for me - if fit Rickie must start - don't need all that nonsense from start of last year again to understand how important to our style of play, goalscoring threat/firepower and morale he is.

Mayuka can't hold the ball up for anywhere near long enough to play a lone striker role, and that makes us a lot more vulnerable defensively when trying to protect a lead. Feel that he'd play better with a target man, where he can actually use his pace to harm defences by playing off their shoulder, rather than charging around the pitch aimlessly all the time. Even then I'm not convinced by him...

That said he can compete with Torres and Ba to start upfront. Nothing close to "Lukaku is likely to be leading the line this season, and De Bruyne and Lukaku are going nowhere this season.". It made no mention of him saying he was going nowhere, though I did only skim it briefly.

Deciding to target a club current playing CL football, or at the top of their league, I get that.

But ambition? Can we really be marked down for that? We're aiming at players like this, we're aiming for European football, we're building a superb academy and actually using the products of it in our first team and so far, not only have we achieved everything we said we wanted to, we've done it ahead of schedule and spent decent sums of money to get there.

If that's not ambition, what is?

don't see him leaving Brazil this season at all now, they're what 11 games into their fixture list and the season seems to finish somewhere around the end of the year. I suppose they have some sort of play-offs after that, I'm not au-fait with their system. If he came here (or anywhere else in Europe) before January now he'd end up involved in a double season although I don't think he's played a lot for Internacional so far. As I see it his place in the Brazil line up for the WC is hanging by a thread as he's been dropped for the next game with Fred and Hulk in the driving seats. So he'll want to stay in Scolari's eye andthe best place to do that is probably in Brazil.

Scolari not a big fan of the biggest league in the world then?

I wonder what translates as ambition from Portuguese? Surely the fact that we've enquiries shows ambition?

Has anyone considered scouring the Championship for some young British strikers perhaps?

no, don't think any young British striker from the NPC has as yet signed for a PL club this window. Apart from those who've been promoted with their clubs none has yet made the step up. Zaha was about the last I think but that was in January. Evidently PL transfer committees are in no hurry to sign NPC players.

Not sure there is much talent to scout mate.

Look at the England u21 team........

Marvin Sordell - just been loaned to Charlton, scored just 10 goals in 4 years

Connor Wickham - 2 league goals in 3 years

Let's try again for Lukaku.

why would Lukaku want to leave Chelsea, why would Chelsea want to loan him out or sell him. They'll have a 60 match season again, Ba is nothing special and Torres would return to Spain if he had a quarter of a chance. Lukaku will go nowhere this season so we'd be wasting our time. We need to look at good strikers in bad clubs, to me Sow would fit our bill down to the ground at 12 million or so the Turks will bite our arm off.i.

We've already got three Championship level (OK, two Championship and one L1/2) strikers on our books, why do we need another?
