Leandro Damiao!

Come on, players like that don't suddenly sign for someone. Would be all over the net if he even held talks with us!

Not wanting to be the odd one out, I would say we are making sure that Damiao is waiting for us to agree his terms, but he must be sweating on it, hoping we don't get fed up.

You get the feeling someone is concrete in for Damiao. Their Sporting Director has recently gone on record saying "he won't be cheap" and that "he is still an inter player"

These sort of comments you would only expect if there was some serious movement going on in behind the scenes...

For what it's worth, I reckon there's more than a 50% chance that team in negotiations is us and I also reckon it will happen!

So when Brazil are in the World Cup final and he scores the winner to lift the cup, we can all look on and say that boy is a SAINT!!!!

Zenit are evens to sign him now

We were in to 2-1 to sign him on BetVictor earlier this evening before they suspended betting on the market.

Trouble is it's a tiny market so even a few people betting can change the odds dramatically. Not sure there's much we can read into them.

I'd say that the Brazilian 'premier' league is far superior to that of the SPL. I am sure it was meant as tongue in cheek but still....

Im not so sure mate - a 44 year old Clarence Seedorf is tearing up the Brazilian league.

Dont think there is too much between the two leagues.

I watched alot of Scottish football last season - it is poor, but I also watched alot of Brazilian football and it was awful at times

That's a relief, I was thinking for a minute we didn't have anyone on here that had watched every single Brazilain league game last season. You have come up trumps again sir.

Bearing in mind that Clarence Seedorf is and was a beast with some exceptional levels of fitness this does not surprise me. That being said I get your point, some of the domestic stuff out there is atrocious. I just find it reaaaaallllllly hard to believe that there is a single top division in the world (of established football leagues) that is as bad as the SPL. It's truly awful.

Tell that to Rosenborg!

That web link from yesterday 30/7 AM paraphrases as follows:

...And then there is the strange case of Leandro Damiao, currently very close indeed to joining Southampton who have put down an offer of 26m euros, Saints having had to accept that Osvaldo is not going to join them them. Napoli stopped bidding at 20M for Damiao but the player in any case wants a team where he is certain to play in order to not lose his chances at the 2014 World Cup, his time at Internacional in Brazil seems pretty much up. As a consequence the arrival of Higuain at Napoli is a real concern for Damiao (My interpretation: because Higuain is the Napoli likely key striker - Damiao would not be the key striker at Napoli but would be much more likely to be at a club like Southampton - after he proved himself of course).

Cheers for that.

I watch quite alot of Japanese football and Kazuyoshi Miura is now 46 but still tearing the league up with Yokohama F.C.

An squeezed into the middle of these two excellent examples is my favorite player from the Peruvian Primera División; Germán Carty, 45, of Club Deportivo Pacífico FC.

I follow this Cono Norte based club 24/7 throughout the Peruvian season and as such I have taken in a lot of Peruvian football over the years, I find the quality is excellent.

Oh - on the side issue of Seedorf. At 37 he still has more class, won more honours and has more worldwide respect from footballers and supporters than any current EPl player you can name. Only players like Scholes can get remotely close to him in the EPl - and i mean only remotely close to him as Seedorf has won championships in Holland, Spain and Italy, 4 Champions leagues, numerous cups, played for the best teams in the world when they were the best teams in the world and never gives less than a 7 performance. And Scholes has retired. If we were EVER so lucky as to have a player of that stature anywhere near SMS....He might be 37 but he would still teach a lot.

Agree, It would certainly make English fans stand up and take note though - I can imagine it now though. Good season, maybe a bit inconsistent and shows flashes of brilliance, but also goes missing occasionally.

Translates to some as "worst signing in the history of the club, we should have signed Gary Hooper for that much"
