Leandro Damiao!

Seriously, put him on your ignore list and be done with it. Do you think the rest of us want to read this inane utter trash? Cause I don't. I kind of wanted to read some updates on our potential signing.

Unfortunately the mods are too busy banning people for minor indiscretions or warning them to play fair when they get annoyed by the dullards. All the while, other members are free to use the forum as a place to continually derail threads with their repetitive dull attempts at sarcastic humour, while also using it for their own petty squabbles.

From the dodgy flats on the junction of Orchard Lane and King Street in Soton. If people knew how much was easily traceable they probably wouldn't do it.

I got a warning from Wikipedia once telling me that false edits aren't allowed. I think I wrote something rude on the Pompey page. (I forget what, it was a long time ago.) Thankfully from a work computer, so my home IP is clean. :-)

Actually I have spent most of the evening deleting some of the most tedious crap you can imagine, many members spared from the worst of it.

But I do agree with your point, anyone derailing threads should be more harshly treated.

It depends on what you mean by derailing a thread. If you challenge a comment made and a sub discussion on a thread develops about that comment then I can't see the problem with that.

Back on topic, Sunday Times journalist tweeting that Napoli will sign both Gomez and Damiao this week:

@JNorthcroft: Cavani expected at PSG this week, Napoli to sign Mario Gomez and Damiao. Spurs gave up on Damiao while ago but that will disappoint Soton

EDIT: Correction, not this week but that are to sign both.

Best of luck to him if he does join Napoli as he seems a top prospect but can't help but feel he'll be making the wrong decision. Napoli wont be half the side without Cavani and playing in a corrupt league wouldn't really appeal to me.

At the end of the day, Northcroft is the ONLY person/outlet reporting that Damiao to Napoli will happen. Numerous other outlets in Italy say that Dzeko is their number 1 target and Damiao is an alternative and until other outlets start reporting this, I'll still continue to think there is a possibility he will join Saints.

Really? They are a huge club that can offer champions league football and the bay of Naples is one of the best places in the world to live. I have to be honest and say even I as a saints fan, would chose Napoli over Saints.

How would you know? Have you been a resident there?

Premier League or Serie A? I know which one I'd prefer.

Of course a footballer is going to live in the crime filled streets of downtown Naples isn't he.

I guess youve Never been to the bay of Naples and down the Amalfi coast then? Sorrento down to Amalfi. A fantastic area.

I've visited the area on numerous occasions thanks, it's stunning. Why do you think George Clooney owns a house is Positano.

Champions league or midtable premier league?

To be fair, Serie A has a bigger/better reputation in Brazil than PL....

Living in Brazil isn´t the calmest non-criminal environment so I dont think that part of living in Naples would scare him.

But as long as there are hope I will continue hoping that he joins us. It´s not like he has been or even now is Napoli´s first choice.

one of the best places in the world to live though? Bit of a stretch

Granted, Naples itself isn't great but the surrounding area is a wonderful place, beautiful, classy and sophisticated. Why don't you write to George Clooney and ask him about it then.

Seriously you Internet people should leave your computers and visit these places before slagging them off.

But then (I'm assuming) lived most or all of your life in one of the countries and so there is no language barrier for the Premier league.

Trying to take it from a Brazilian neutral perspective - he has one country where the club has qualified for the Champions League, the country has a pretty similar climate to his home country and Brazilians have a consistent ability to be able to settle there, the other country has a club which finished 14th last season, it gets blooming cold in the winter (yes I know it does in Italy as well), and Brizilians have a limited history of being able to settle... but at least we've got Guly!!!

Not often I agree with Turkish but he's right on this one - if the offers on the table are the same then it's no contest. However the question will be how strong are Napoli's finances compared to ours and what they can offer financially.

One last thing, Damiao AND Gomez - would that work?

There is a club that intends to sign the player, the interest exists.

Can Napoli really have shown that intention this fast when they supposedly came into the race on friday?

It´s been very clear they are targeting other players as their first and second choices....

Sky wouldnt suggest Napoli were going to sign him if they didnt have a reason for leaning that way.

Sky sports website is actually pretty bad, stuff they are confident about makes it to the tv channel. Wouldn't shock me if he does go to napoli, I just wouldn't take anything on their website as gospel.

Indeed, but Sky Italia are very good and I imagine they would have got it from them.

Still no mention from his agent as to who the favourite is. Still think its us. I feel this is the signing that the Don really wants.

Sky usually well informed but you never know.

Paulo Freitas is the head of Brazilian research for Football Manager. But all he is doing in that article is reporting a story already in the press.

I'm not sure Benitez would buy an unproven in Europe number 9. They are playing CL this season, not getting sorted out for the next year after. A serious proven CL number 9 is what he should be going for .Gomez is his number 1 im sure, Dam is only3rd or4th choice i think - but if its between CL bound Napoli to replace Cavani or to little Southampton- to fight it out with SRl- we lose. We have to wait because We are ( still) lower on the food chain- FACT :-)

still think Benitez would take Torres before Damiao, probably doesn't want to give money to Chelsea though.

story also posted on football365, and Fox within minutes of each other. It could be good communication, or an easy way of altering odds...

Apparently Naples are also trying to sign Callejon who's a striker as well. Napoli are this year's City, agents are making anyone who has a pair of boots a target for them. It's what comes of selling a player to Qatar FC for 64 million €.

Its the obvious link, they are a decent sized club and have money, lots of players would be linked with them and a fair few wold want to play for them.

Some people on here crack me up. Damiao had probably never even heard of us until his agent advised him we had made a bid.

As for Napoli, they're one of the giants of European football with fanatical support and CL football to top it all off. Take your rosé tinted glasses off.

Whilst I get your point, lets not over exaggerate here. 'Giants of European football' win more than two domestic titles and a UEFA Cup in their History.

4th best supported Italian club, but the main key they have is Champions League football. If they match our bid then he will go there no doubt but they seem to be focussing their efforts elsewhere so he isn't their priority target which may play into our favour.

Probably time we move on from this now. Napoli and Zenit into the race, means Southampton are out of the race.

I admire Cortese for his ambition in trying to get these huge names but I think we're going to need to somehow qualify for Europe before any of these targets like Damiao agree to come.
