Saint Garrett Posted 28 June, 2013 Share Posted 28 June, 2013 Everyone turns up in older shirts with stripes for the first home game of the season (Sunderland)? Shows that we do want them back but doesn't 'harm the club' as some people have put it....? Just an idea....
The Kraken Posted 28 June, 2013 Share Posted 28 June, 2013 Another idea would be to not buy this shirt. Although that seems a step too far for some who don't like it.

Matthew Le God Posted 28 June, 2013 Share Posted 28 June, 2013 Why stripes? Why not follow through this logic and demand the 1885 sash returns? Any deviation from a club's original kit is a break from "tradition".
Turkish Posted 28 June, 2013 Share Posted 28 June, 2013 If you back the chairman and appreciate what he has done for us you will buy the shirt and you will wear it at the first game of the season. Can I just remind everyone where we were 4 years ago and how lucky we are to still have a club. We almost lost Cortese in May so i think you need to show your gratitude by stopping your whining, buy the shirt and sing his name non stop to show that you appreciate him and all he has done for us. Matthew Le God Posted 28 June, 2013 Share Posted 28 June, 2013 Southampton FC didn't exist in 1885, Matthew. So why in 2010 did we celebrate the 125 anniversary? Yes, the name is different in 1885, but it is the same club.
Matthew Le God Posted 28 June, 2013 Share Posted 28 June, 2013 SFC started in red and white stripes. Blue shorts, blue socks. Should we start a campaign for that kit then? After all you think that was the first Saints kit and you can't get more traditional than that. Those wanting stripes are merely doing so because in their lifetimes that is what they associate with the club.

Any deviation from a club's original kit is a break from "tradition". Stop being a knob for just a minute. In the living memory of the vast majority of fans we have been in a kit (bar a few 80's hiccups, but even then the colours were still a R/W/B combo)) of mainly red and white stripes, and black shorts. To be honest I'd love a return to The sash, but it won't work with a Sponsor logo.

stevegrant Posted 28 June, 2013 Share Posted 28 June, 2013 Yep a ratio of 6/1 of those who want stripes and those who want the current kit. At the risk of being seen to take MLG's side in an argument (never a comfortable position at the best of times), nowhere on the poll does it specify stripes, it's merely an appraisal of the new shirt, i.e. whether the voters like the shirt or not. Certainly true that only 19% (rounded up) actually like the new shirt, 66% don't like it and only 17% will actually part with their cash. That's not a positive reaction no matter how you spin the figures.
