Matthew Le God Posted 27 June, 2013 Share Posted 27 June, 2013 I want a return to the blue socks and blue shorts we had for consecutive 59 years! Now that is a "traditional Saints kit"! What is tradition really...? - If we were Leeds fans would you be demanding they got rid of the all white kit they've only had since the 1960's? - If we were Crystal Palace fans would you be demanding they got rid of the rd/blue and eagle kit they've only had since the 1970's? etc etc

Saint Garrett Posted 27 June, 2013 Author Share Posted 27 June, 2013 It's all about the lifetime of tradition. What percentage of Saints fans were around in 1930 when we had blue shorts? For the last 60 odd years we've had stripes. It's a disgrace that we're having that taken away from us for the dullest Saints shirt in recent history. In 1955 Southampton had black shorts and red/white socks for 5 years and the 59 years before that were blue. There is a change point, like there was for Leeds United in the 1960's and Crystal Palace in the 1970's, for Saints it appears to be 2012.

I started watching saints in the early 80s as a little kid. we had then......an all red top. its like the heady days have returned. Matthew Le God Posted 27 June, 2013 Share Posted 27 June, 2013 Do you think red and white striped shirts is Saints traditional home kit? Yes or no? I like a red/white shirt (although doesn't have to be stripes and variations from year to year) and I quite like it with black shorts and white socks. also, you've already had it explained to you why the change was made from blue to black shorts. Other teams in the same period managed to wear blue shorts without a problem.

Sour Mash Posted 27 June, 2013 Share Posted 27 June, 2013 What is your definition of tradition? It's not for me to define. Do you think Saints' traditional home shirts are red and white stripes? It's an easy enough question.
Batman Posted 27 June, 2013 Share Posted 27 June, 2013 What is your definition of tradition? obviously, saints are heavily associated with Red and White stripes. however, like most (if not all) clubs, we have before and starting again, on a road of a bit of a deviation from the design we are so used to it happens to nearly all clubs and we are no different. I should imagine, it will happen again in the future with a new owner
pingwing Posted 27 June, 2013 Share Posted 27 June, 2013 Could we just play in the Peru sash for ever? No domestic club has a kit like that and its nice.
Hatch Posted 27 June, 2013 Share Posted 27 June, 2013 I'm quite concerned about the well being of The9. I would have expected about 1000 posts from him today on this thread. Hope the Itchen Bridge staff are on red alert.

aintforever Posted 27 June, 2013 Share Posted 27 June, 2013 What is your definition of a traditional kit? Red and white striped shirt, black shorts, white socks. The shirt could still look 'Southampton' without stripes as long as there is a decent ratio of red and white IMO.
Saint_clark Posted 27 June, 2013 Share Posted 27 June, 2013 I'm not fussed about having a mostly red kit, as long as it's good - or more importantly, different to what's already out there. I hate the idea of having template kits. Agree with what's mentioned above, let's have the sash kit full time from now on.
sandwichsaint Posted 27 June, 2013 Share Posted 27 June, 2013 Maybe NC will bow to fan power next year and keep our commercial partners onside too? All hail the Black and White stripes with Zebra Finance as the shirt sponsors. What's your problem? It's stripes isn't it?
SnailOB Posted 27 June, 2013 Share Posted 27 June, 2013 Can we just keep a kit for a couple of seasons ? Why is everyone so keen for a 5th change in 5 years ?
Wes Tender Posted 27 June, 2013 Share Posted 27 June, 2013 Could we just play in the Peru sash for ever? No domestic club has a kit like that and its nice. Agreed. And as far as I'm aware, we had it before Peru, so they are wearing the Saints sash. Vive le difference! I say.
