kwsaint Posted 25 June, 2013 Share Posted 25 June, 2013 When Saints played their first home game at SMS against Chelsea we broke the home attendance record that had stood since the Man U game in 69 (I am discounting Mick Channon's testimonial in 76 when goodness knows how many got into the Dell) Has any other club moved grounds in the past 25 years and subsequently broken their attendance record? Matthew Le God Posted 25 June, 2013 Share Posted 25 June, 2013 (edited) Has any other club moved grounds in the past 25 years and subsequently broken their attendance record? Milton Keynes Dons founded in 2004. - Played at the National Hockey stadium from 2004 to 2007 - Moved to stadium:MK in 2007 and broke their attendance record So SMS is not unique in this instance. The9 Posted 25 June, 2013 Share Posted 25 June, 2013 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_home_attendances_of_English_football_clubs Arsenal moved to Wembley for the Champions League and broke theirs in 1998... Stevenage switched to Birmingham's home ground for an FA Cup match and broke their home attendance record. Other than that, Burton Albion aside, everyone else has "old" or "current but not modern" ground records or the kinds of quirks above, like Man U's attendance record being at Maine Road. Of course for almost all of those clubs they weren't their first ground, so at some point it was a "new ground", just not post-Taylor, which is pretty much the benchmark for this stuff.
