dinger Posted 1 August, 2013 Posted 1 August, 2013 Well after that dodgy decision earlier, it's a relief that the Rogers dismissal was as plumb as you like. Would've been slightly embarrassed to see such a good bit of hitting brought to a close by anything other than the skill of the fielding team. Interesting play so far. 133-3, who's on top so far do we think?
Hatch Posted 1 August, 2013 Posted 1 August, 2013 50/50 I'd say. But if we get Clarke, it all swings back to us.
dinger Posted 1 August, 2013 Posted 1 August, 2013 Well the umpires have used DRS correctly there and it wasn't in England's favour. So at least there's no fix in...
tpbury Posted 1 August, 2013 Posted 1 August, 2013 Are there some Saints there? = hearing OWTSGMI, with the correct accent....
View From The Top Posted 1 August, 2013 Posted 1 August, 2013 Are there some Saints there? = hearing OWTSGMI, with the correct accent.... There were singing "Oh when the snake" in homage to the biggest beer snake I've ever seen, although there were Saints there today. It was hotter than Hades there today.

Appy Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 Draw this test for me. I expect us to bat big as well, Cook,Trott,KP and Prior all due runs.
View From The Top Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 Draw this test for me. I expect us to bat big as well, Cook,Trott,KP and Prior all due runs. Agreed. It's a batsman's paradise.
tpbury Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 I have never heard the term 'beer snake' before. Was a bit shocked until I figured out what you meant! Draw looks best for England, but I suspect the batters will fk up.
Hatch Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 Draw is no good for Aussie though, think they might declare soon, They still need to bowl us out twice.
fanimal Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 Clarke just declared - time to bore the pants off everyone for 2 more days, play for a draw.
Junction 9 Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 Pressure on our batsmen not to make silly mistakes now, I can still see an Aussie win (weather dependant)
saints_is_the_south Posted 2 August, 2013 Posted 2 August, 2013 Surely Bresnan must realise he hasn't hit that?! Not a good day for us. We need a 200 partnership somewhere to get us back in this.
St Jim Posted 4 August, 2013 Author Posted 4 August, 2013 Looks like a draw it will be. I'll take that
SO16_Saint Posted 4 August, 2013 Posted 4 August, 2013 Wall aus declare overnight to give a target that is chaseable in hope of us hitting out? Draw no good - need a win
Colinjb Posted 4 August, 2013 Posted 4 August, 2013 Wall aus declare overnight to give a target that is chaseable in hope of us hitting out? Draw no good - need a win Why? A draw means the Aussies cannot win.
SO16_Saint Posted 4 August, 2013 Posted 4 August, 2013 Why? A draw means the Aussies cannot win. Sorry.... Draw no good for them...so do they give us a target for us to chase down and hit out. But looking at the weather, they've been beaten by that quite possibly.
Colinjb Posted 4 August, 2013 Posted 4 August, 2013 Sorry.... Draw no good for them...so do they give us a target for us to chase down and hit out. But looking at the weather, they've been beaten by that quite possibly. Right, Gotcha. Shame for the Aussies!
saints_is_the_south Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 Bit of a shame about the weather really, would have meant a thrilling end to the test today, and I think we'd have seen out the day to get a draw, maybe even get close to the target. Prefer to get a natural result, rather than one forced by the weather.
hutch Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 North West England Forecast Summary Today Cloudy with rain persisting for much of the day, very heavy at times with a risk of thundery bursts and localised flooding. Towards evening the rain will ease and slowly clear eastwards, perhaps allowing some late brightness in the west....
JoeShmoe Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 Definite back edge to that rain, about to dry up in Manchester in next 20 mins, will be gloomy though and outfield probably soaked
alpine_saint Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 Play starting in 10mins. Will England slow it down, hoping with help from the weather to count the clock down, or will they go for this ? 332 is not over-the-hill, its a good ODI innings.

Just seen that the Aussies have declared. Point is moot.
alpine_saint Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 Edit. Just seen that the Aussies have declared. Point is moot. How so ? It only takes a couple of the England batsmen to get a mad glint in their eye and a result is on the cards.
Colinjb Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 How so ? It only takes a couple of the England batsmen to get a mad glint in their eye and a result is on the cards. No, the point I was going to make was moot. That wasn't too clear. Balls, first wicket already!! Come on rain!!!
JoeShmoe Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 Rain looking far away actually, bands of rain missing Manchester, good in some ways actually because Aus will have fully deserves to win this if we dont bat out the day and sets up the series Cook looking in as poor form as i've ever seen, if Trotty gets out quickly were staring down the barrel
dinger Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 Cook on a duck. Marvellous. Even worse was his use of the review. England look distinctly nervous this morning. I'm worried that the intermittent rain might play into the Aussies hands as it'll prevent any batsman getting into a groove.

It's like he can't decide where to stand.
Viking Warrior Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 Watched some of the cricket on Telly yesterday , cant help thinking that some of the english players are acting like Chavs. especially broad. This constantant appealling and reviews is not helpful for the game , And broad even tried to appeal to the square leg umpire even though the reveiw had saidnot out. Some of the players are using over paid prima donna footballers as their mentors. Even cook appealed when he was clearly out this morning PS given the amount of referrals, and the time it takes . I believe that there should be extra overs played at the end of each days play , in order to stop this time wastings. OH and you should only go of the pitch if you are genuinely injured or need a puncheon .
dinger Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 Well the good news is that if they keep bowling Starc he'll do England's job for them. Don't ask any questions of the batsmen and they won't have to give any answers.

JoeShmoe Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 oh dear. have to say Compton would have been perfect for this
Whitey Grandad Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 Or Boycott. I can only see one outcome here.
JoeShmoe Posted 5 August, 2013 Posted 5 August, 2013 sense of inevitably about today, rain hasn't arrived, top order collapse. Unless it does rain I think it may be over shortly after tea
St Jim Posted 5 August, 2013 Author Posted 5 August, 2013 Looks like KP has gone. Game Over. Positive as ever
St Jim Posted 5 August, 2013 Author Posted 5 August, 2013 Pitch inspection at 2.45. Unless there's breaks in the cloud cover I'd imagine the best scenario for the Aussies is 2 hours of play, (given tea will be taken and then I'd imagine bad light will play a part). And that's not taking into account further rain. Looking less likely for Australia
