Crab Lungs Posted 23 June, 2013 Share Posted 23 June, 2013 (edited) http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/8991531.Poyet_slams_Saints_style_of_play/ What goes around, Skeletor... He sneered: “They play the same kind of football as Dagenham and Redbridge. The only difference is they’ve got (Rickie) Lambert. If you gave Dagenham and Redbridge (Lee) Barnard and Lambert they would be in the top six. “It is difficult to defend, they put balls in the box. There is a big difference between the teams anyway. We need to keep the ball and because we didn’t keep it we lost the game. “They are a team that it doesn’t matter how they play they will always kick it forward and put it in the box - possession against position. In this championship possession beat position and that is what is going to rest in history. “When you look back in ten years time who won the championship this year it was Brighton, playing football, passing the ball, not kicking the ball and putting it in the box. That’s facts, you cannot change that. “There are ways of setting up a team. You can buy players who are all six foot and play balls long and high, like Stoke, like Colchester last year, like Southampton, or you can choose Nooney (Craig Noone) who is going to give you something that the fans would like, that it is good to pay a ticket for. “It’s two different ways. Unfortunately for Southampton our way was the best this year.” Edited 23 June, 2013 by Crab Lungs
kwsaint Posted 23 June, 2013 Share Posted 23 June, 2013 Anyone any idea what has actually been going on? This isn't club sacks manager and they agree compensation afterwards. This is suspension, formal disciplinary process, followed by sacking. No compensation. Unfortunately had to do a couple of these myself. Can't say I like the bloke much, if watching the way that his sides play and conduct themselves is anything to go by. Brighton at SMS in the Championship promotion season were constantly niggling and hassling the ref. Typical of the way that he gets them to play. You didn't see them do that for the entire of our clubs' League One promotion season then ? They REMOVED THE BALLBOYS WHILST LEADING 1-0 AT WITHDEAN, FFS!!!! His Dagenham comments are ridiculous and were at the time, for no other reason that they didn't play football and were one of the more direct sides in the division, all they did at Withdean against us was chip the ball up the right wing from Calderon at left back to Bennett (?) at right wing. No kind of passing game at all, everything went long. Edited 23 June, 2013 by The9

Gorgiesaint Posted 23 June, 2013 Share Posted 23 June, 2013 As much as I dislike Poyet as a persona (not knowing him personally), that is totally out of order by Brighton. When I posted earlier, it was because I saw the BBC website feed, and I assumed that he already knew. Going to press whilst he's on national tv is bad enough but that... well, certainly won't help them find a new manager - until next week when it will all be forgotten. The Kraken Posted 23 June, 2013 Share Posted 23 June, 2013 I'll be very surprised if Poyet is telling the whole truth that he genuinely had no idea about this. He's been playing games with Brighton throughout, he refused to turn up for the original hearing. F*ck him, he's been angling for a move away and it sounds like he's been shafted for it. Good. Viking Warrior Posted 23 June, 2013 Share Posted 23 June, 2013 If the statement that was read on the beeb is the first time poyet has heard he has been dismissed then Brighton have screwed up . They should have informed him first and therefore have not followed uk employment law procedures . I suspect he has already been informed before the statement was issued . . Even if he didn't turn up for his disciplinary hearing . They would have arranged a second date and if he didn't turn up then they were in their right to sack him in his absence
Rebel Posted 23 June, 2013 Share Posted 23 June, 2013 Surely Poyet got what he wanted which was to walk away from Brighton - he was just hoping he could walk in to a premier league job at Fulham or Swansea Poyet and a Brighton deserve each other - the most histrionic set of fans we've ever had the misfortune to encounters - and one of the most self deluded mangers ever. Gus Poyet will be remembered as the man who introduced all that is bad about South American football to the championship - the diving, time wasting, the appealing for cards, the bad losing, the cheating. He's up there with Pulis and Fat Sam with his anti-football methods

Lallana's Left Peg Posted 23 June, 2013 Share Posted 23 June, 2013 I don't see what is so funny about this. Oh, hang on, yes I do    The best thing of all, near the end of the show he confirmed he will be appealing so he can try to continue to be Brighton Manager. So in May he says he won't be working on the retained list as he isn't sure he will still be at the club, then a few months later when no other club wants him he gets sacked and now has to go through the legal system to understand if he has any possibility of getting his own job back despite the fact his employers don't want him now either What a *****
