Away pre season matches

A few of us have booked flights with Ryanair from Bournemouth to Girona, Friday the 19th of July to Sunday the 21st of July for the Palamos match. Long weekend in the sunshine, continental lager and Saints away.

Still considering Celta Vigo, maybe looking at Flying Saturday to Monday to Porto from London Stansted for £160 then hiring a car as there isn't much in the way of public transport between the two.

As for Austria I haven't really looked, been with England a couple of times in recent years so will more than likely swerve those matches. Try looking at flights to Klagenfurt or Ljubljana in Slovenia.

Has anyone found reasonable prices for Austria or Spain

The matches in the south of Spain cheap, seen flights from Bournemouth and Bristol for well under £100.

Celta Vigo more expensive.

The matches in Austria look extremely pricey to get to, with a fairly long drive to boot.

That's my summary.

Need to sort some time off work but the second it's confirmed then I'll be booking up for Celta Vigo. Will fly into Porto and then somehow worry about getting to Vigo nearer the time. Buses and trains run though. Porto seems to be the only place that you can fly in to and from though unless you want to be paying £250+.

For those who do travel abroad; I take it you do it as its a good opportunity to spend a few days away rather than for the game itself? I went to the pre-season game against Wolves last season at St. Marys and f*ck me it was a tiresome game!

There is a bit of a problem with the timing of the Villach games - a week later is the Villacher Kirchtag, which is the local equivalent for the Oktoberfest.

Superb for a p*ss-up if you can stay long enough, loads of loose-moralled buxom wenches in dirndl, but you might struggle to find cheap flights to Klagenfurt with Ryanair, and also struggle to find cheap accomodation in the city centre.

Done loads of foreign pre-season jaunts over the years and yeah it's pretty much a good chance for a p**s up in Europe with your mates, usually in a random footballing outpost and all that goes with it. Games themselves never seem as dull as those played at home, but that might just be perception.

Girona isn't THAT close to Palafrugell though, so what are people intending to do to get from one to the other? Anyone know whether trains or buses are any good?

It's only an hour, if that, should you hire a car at the airport. Probably the first 10 miles the slowest then dual carriageway for the rest.

Buses pretty good: http://www.sarfa.com/paginas/sarfa_portada.php?id_idioma=3 should give you a starting point.

No trains

I do know of folks who have taken a taxi from the Airport €60 ish

As posted elsewhere

Palafrugell quiet inland working town, Palamos working fishing port seaside town with very little "Kiss me Quick" but a bigger choice of hotels and only 10-15 mins from Palafrugell. Playa D'Aro much more Touristy.

There is a good choice of Camping too with self catering caravan and bungalow options in the area. With Quiet relaxed, more commercial, remote, and very remote Nudist on offer! As the high season has not fully kicked in you might get some good short term deals.

I'm all booked up for the Schalke game in Villach. It does help that I live in Austria, all be it 4 hours away.

How you managed that then ? I live 10mins away from the stadium, and I cant find anyone who even knows about it, let alone a "vorverkauf" since I found out yesterday morning. No-one answered the phone at the stadium yesterday morning...

I'm guessing he means travel and hotel. Tickets will be pay on the day , no-more than £10.

I am expecting a big up-take from the locals for these matches. Not 100% sure there wont be an advance. There is a significant Turkish population in Villach, and both matches will be viewed as quite high-level games in an area in which football is quite popular.

My missus is going to ask at the stadium about advance sales when she drops my son off on Tuesday.

Booked up for the Celta Vigo game. Thursday morning fly from Stansted to Porto, then train/bus from there. Same on Monday, train/bus back to Porto and fly back late Monday, return for 190 quid. Are any other wronguns doing the game?

I must say that this is very tempting as I always do this part of the world with work at a rate of knots against the clock. If I was doing this I would probably do the run up to Vigo for the Friday Saturday, then Sat night Sunday morning return to Porto for mooch about taking in the Brazilian restaurant down by the Seafront, and a longer meander round the Port caves at Gaia.................... I am slowly talking myself into this! :)
