I went last season and felt like it was a bit of a waste of time. The fact that Arsenal sent their 'B' team (if it was even that) took a lot of the interest out of it. Saints were poor too

IIRC she didn't feel comfortable with the flag, the trophy I believe is respectful to all, but its down to the family really.

 

Personally, I reckon a tribute match is decent each year, pay our respects and focus on the future of Saints as ML wanted us all to see.

Agreed. I remember my father taking me along to the Liebherr Cup when I was a wee boy. Can't believe it's gone after all these years.

Well I thought it was a good occasion for families to take their kids to , my nipper, nephews and friends kids loved it with the fair and events it created a bit of a community feel about it and the kids have been asking when its on ever since the season ended I think the club are missing a trick at getting kids interested in coming to saint marys ! My boy will be really disappointed when I tell him its not on anymore!

I should think Cortese was raging about how many people got in for nowt last year* thanks to the half-baked policy of not securing the fairground area for ticket checks from about 10 minutes after the first game kicked off, then letting everyone in and out of the concourse without checking tickets.

I believe when we play Sociedad, that will be for the new 'Cortese Cup'. The winning team also get's the opportunity to dine with Nicola Cortese.
