doubleonothing Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 I once played football at Celta Vigo's training ground. True story Not a bad pre season by the looks of it. Would have like Barcelona at SMS as the home game, but Real Sociedad is not a bad opposition. Glad to see it back to only 1 home game. Should get a good crowd as a result. Sour Mash Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 Quite an impressive/prestigious list, but just a bit surprising we aren't playing any English/English style opposition to give our new lads a taste of facing West Ham/Stoke/Norwich/Sunderland etc.... stevegrant Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 Merged threads together. Assuming there's not quite so much interest in games against Spanish third and fourth division sides, the rest are going to be REALLY bloody hard work to get to. JRM Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 Far too much Spanish influence, great preparation if we are going to play in La Liga but need some more domestic games in there i think, even the home game is against Spainards.
Downthe36 Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 it might be easier flying to Porto then a 3 hour train from there, not the easiest place to get to. Could fly to Santiago, but again not cheap. Although the opposition is crap, the game against Palamós CF has flights for under £100 return from Bournemouth and you get to spend a couple of days on the beach. Wes Tender Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 Villach and the area surrounding is very picturesque. My grandmother lived there and we visited often in the school holidays when I was a nipper. Nearest aiport is Klagenfurt, but other airports like Graz, Linz, Trieste Ronchi, Salzburg and Venice are all doable as alternatives with one and a half / 2 hours journey by train from the airports. Southern Austria (Carinthia) is a great destination for a holiday with lots to do and see. The summer temperatures are the highest in Austria, often nudging up to 30 degrees. There are about 200 lakes surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. Trips into Italy and Slovenia are close as both borders are just 45 minutes away. Lakes Worthersee and Ossiarchersee provide swimming, waterskiing and other watersports in clear, warm water. A great area for walking, mountain biking, climbing, horse riding, camping and other outdoor pursuits. We went by car for a holiday a couple of years ago and it's about 12 hours drive from Calais, comfortable to do with an overnight stop and practical for four/five Saints fans to share the costs and have a good time for a week's break perhaps. John Boy Saint Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/saints-confirm-pre-season-schedule-875903.aspx Wednesday 17th July (7pm local time) UE Llagostera vs Southampton – Estadi Josep Pla i Arbonès, Spain Saturday 20th July (7pm local time) Palamós CF vs Southampton – Nou Estadi Municipal de Palamós, Spain Hoo-bloody-Ray a chuffing miracle!! Thats Wednesday evening in Palafrugell sorted out, that is an exceptional playing surface for the home ground of a Spanish 7th Division side. Saw Espanyol play there in a pre season friendly and saw them played off the park first half. Shame I can't make Saturdays game as that is a very nice little ground. Both an hour from Girona airport with direct flights from Bournemouth for those tempted. Palamos is a working fishing port with seafront hotels certainly not Benidorm Playa D'Aro down the road is the place for that. Palafrugell is a very pleasant little town in land from the sea which is not that far down the road When you get to the sea it is very quiet and can be a bit expensive. if you are planning on these and want Barcelona thrown in you are looking at driving for 1:30 - 2hrs.
