Victor Wanyama - Officially Signed

Still nothing to suggest it is imminent. Cortese doesn't seem like a man who would tell some teenagers exclusives at a pre season game.

Interested to hear Lennon...

"It's all about the negotiations between Saints and the agent now. I'd imagine that might get the ball rolling again. I've only seen Victor for a couple of days but he trained with the rest of the squad who didn't play against Cluj. If nothing materialises, he'll play some of the game on Tuesday against Greuther Furth."

Wanyama not on team sheet tonight (soz if posted before).

Cortese does not strike me as a man who would be at a very local game if he wasnt confident of getting some deals finalised or they have actually been so already. He would be open to questions, easy not to say anything of course but he would be very much aware of all the rumours and therefore would expect fans to ask......

just a hunch but I imagine the next day or three will reveal 2 or 3 players.

He was on holiday in August last year! His attendance at local development squad games tells us FA.

Losing 6-2 to a team That'll be playing on the German 2nd division next season isnt great, pre-season or not!

I'm not upset pal, why do you think that? I just don't think his attendance of the game tonight gives much away in terms of where we are with transfers.

As I've just posted on the Sholing thread, was stood about 5ft away from Reed, NC and MoPo throught the game - overheard a conversation at the end between Reed, NC and a coach

NC "i'll be there, I dunno about 8"

Reed "just his passport stamped and work permit"

to which I heard Wanyama's name twice, the first as a question (I think from the spanish coach) and then Reed confirming his name.

by the sounds of it, Wanyama is on his way back, we need to get his Work Permit updated and passport stamped and he's ours. Tomorrow night or Thursday by the sounds of things

If you heard what you think you heard, it sounds promising! I reckon tomorrow could be signing no. 2 of the summer.

I am not sure what the process of applying for a work permit is but I am pretty sure it'll take more than 24hrs as Kenya are ranked 124th in the world.

The alternative is of course that a work permit has been applied for weeks ago (and granted) and we just need to update it the day he signs. I think we did this for Ramirez last summer.

He already has a British Work permit - I'm guessing it'll be just formalities with his potential change of employer

He already has one though, so presumably just a change of employer, assuming this is actually happening. Really hope we get him though.

My missus works in this area and she says the work permit should be a formality because he's already demonstrated the relevant credentials to be employed in the UK already.

Has anyone heard anything from Lennon about Wanyama's non-involvement tonight?

No, but I have a pal who works at Celtic ( cant say more than that ) , and I rang him a wee while ago and he said nothing to say officially , but unofficially looks like St Marys is his destination. I am NITK , just repeating information given to me with in the last hour.

So, assuming this does all go through, can someone tell me what is going to happen in midfield?

I know f*ck all about football, remember.

* Thread links fine :)

Rotation, Wanyama is more of the viera mould and different to the two there ATM but arguably more in the MS type than Corky. If anything it gives options. The real issue (if you call it that) would be if we signed both Victor and Banega.

For this kind of money I am still suprised that there have been very few clubs showing an interest. Could it be the Liehbers were right in questioning NCs intentions with their money. Gaston has not exactly justified his price tag, and what with him and this signing £24 plus million is a lot to outlay on midfield. We all are still laughing at Pompey, hope it isn't us in a couple of years.

Just hope we are still after a good striker, a position I feel we should be splashing the cash.

Cheers, Smirkers. I feel slightly guilty for giving you a quick lash on the other thread now. Slightly.

Looks like this thread's finally reaching the vinegar strokes.

I'd love it if this transfer did go through tomorrow. I missed the excitement of the Lovren transfer as I was in Mexico, and I'm off work tomorrow!

Been watching the developments of this from afar, but safe to say that I think this will be a very solid edition to team.

What I believed we lacked at times last year, was a real presence and power through the middle of the park. Morgan and Cork are terrific in what they do, but there are some games where you just need a bit of physicality and power in there - and this is the sort of CM I think we've lacked for a while.

Not afraid to pop up and take a shot either, an all action box to box power house. Which will leave us with potential midfield options of NI international captain - Steve Davis, Cork, Morgan and Wanyama. Not half bad eh?

I've honestly got mixed feelings about Gaston. I've seen all the "he'll come good next year" comments. I hope they're true, but with the noise from South American media, sounds very much like he's treating SFC as a springboard for better things. Fair enough - if he does the things on the pitch to justify his wild claims about his own ability. Very good on his day; only works two days a week. Hopefully, new signings will be the fire up his arse that provides the consistency conflagration.

From the guy who broke the original story all those weeks ago in the Scottish Sun on twitter now.

@_JackL_: @McGregorDerek Hi Derek - Wanyama deal to Saints seems to be done. That what you're hearing?

@McGregorDerek: @_JackL_ Looking likely, but no deal done until player signs.

------------

@danbsfc: @McGregorDerek Hi Derek, late night reports that Wanyama will join Saints. Do you know if this is correct? Thanks.

@McGregorDerek: @danbsfc Until he signs it's not done. But would seem likely.

Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Cork. What a line up that is. Throw in Davis and JWP who can more than do jobs there if needed, and central midfield is looking sweet. Next to add to our attacking talents...

(I'm of course jumping the gun before he signs, but am off to bed soon, and with no work to get up for tomorrow it's possible the deal could be completed before I even wake up!)
