Going by his tweets I read it as though it isn't a positive for us by I may be totally wrong. Got a feeling he wants to stay at Celtic. Unless it is something re: the agent situation. Good news for Cortese as he has won his agent war? good news for Celtic as no clubs want to pay the required £'s? Who knows until tomorrow morning.

@reluctantnicko: @MarkReeves999 Sunday People may have a story tomorrow ...

@MarkReeves999: @reluctantnicko good news?

@reluctantnicko: @MarkReeves999 Possibly. For someone ...

@MarkReeves999: @reluctantnicko his agent?

@reluctantnicko: @MarkReeves999 Wait for the tale. I hope it is used ...

Don't think Celtic would be happy with that, think they want the money.

One tweet missed out from this conversation:

Alan Nixon ‏@reluctantnicko Protected account 5h

@MarkReeves999 He knows where he wants to go.

Based on ITK sources on here, sounds like this deal is almost sewn up. Happy days.

I'm not remotely ITK, but I've got a horrible feeling he is going to stay at Celtic, why bother going to meet up with them in pre-season yesterday if he knows he's off?

Absolutely this. He got giddy and was told the big guns were going to come in for him. They didn't. He stays put and tries to emulate his form from this season in the CL. Good luck to the lad. I only want players at Saints who are committed and will wear the shirt with pride and passion. Unlucky for Celtic though... I think Lennon is reported as saying the money was going to be used to improve some of the contracts his top players are on.

Given Celtic seem to want the money, to my mind either the agent has given in accepted NC's offer, NC has caved in to the agent's demands or Cardiff have come back with a new offer.

Only in the transfer news bit on SSN but it did say that Cardiff were no longer interested due tot he asking price.

Nicko saying 'he knows where he wants to go' suggests a move away. If it does end up being Cardiff then Joe Ledley will have a lot to answer for.

Then again, it wouldn't surprise me if Neil Lennon has had a chat with him and told him to go to Saints. He was extremely positive of us the other day in his presser and Poch was complimentary of Wanyama the other day in his presser so seems like a good relationship is being built between the 2 clubs.

Right, in that case, unless a new bidder has stepped in, I think it may be good news for us. I think if it was a new bidder, Nixon would have said so, since a new team coming in for him, (whose identity he'll reveal in the paper) is too good a hook to not disclose.

Wanyama staying at Celtic is not really good news for anyone if it means Celtic don't get the money they want this summer and have to accept much less next summer.

It means Wanyama hasn't got the move to a higher profile league he wants for another year

It's not good for us for obvious reasons.

Everyone wins if he moves to SFC

Agent gets a few £'s rather than nothing

Celtic get £12m

Wanyama doubles his wages

We get a good young player

Yep, agree with both of these comments. All seems carefully stage-managed by the Don with Poch's press conference on Thursday as well as the OS update yesterday. We've always been so coy about transfer targets so to explicitly state not only who we are interested in, but also to repeat the line about finalizing/announcing transfers on our own terms suggests that something is in the pipeline. Deliberate PR move to showcase our seriousness, ambitions, pulling power etc, etc..... Can't see Poch coming out with such statements unless they were confident of pulling at least 1/2 of these transfers off.

They are going to struggle, he named 3 players, half of that is 1 1/2.

Would be surprised if MP would make any comments unless he was confident of pulling the transfers off. On that logic, the Banega deal might have serious legs too. Interestingly the OS article on MP's press conference included his comments on links with the Wanyama and Banega but not those on Damiao.

I agree, Banega is a strange one for me though, can't really see where he's going to fit in if we get Wanyama, which is looking likely.

Reckon Banega, Morgan and Wanyama could form a tasty partnership - all three are box to box and Banega can play in a slightly more advanced position -possibly the position Davis is currently occupying.

Not sure where that would leave Ramirez.

Spider - Wanyama

Ramirez - Banega - JRod

Could be a lot of interchanging where Banega can drop down when one of Spider/Wanyama surge forward.

All three AM can also interchange, switch flanks during games and so on.

Ramirez more free from defensive duties, Spider covers right side with Clyne, Banega falling down covering center with Wanyama....

But, where does everything leave Cork then..??

Exactly. MP hasn't been opposed to playing him on the wing (e.g. Reading away) but he hasn't looked very comfortable there. Saying that he hasn't looked comfortable down the middle either.

Ramirez has been pretty ineffectual everytime he's played wide, his best position is attacking central midfield which is where I imagine Banega will fit in.

Cork will still have a big part to play. We need 3 quality players for those 2 holding positions.

True but they would be stuck out wide in a system like this and Ramirez were used wide a bit by MP too but I can agree.

Banega is used to playing holding midfielder so he can go into that position with Ramirez more as CAM and then you have Lallana/Puncheon/New winger come in here and that would still leave Cork out.

I´m first to admit it´s very harsh on Cork, but I think MP wants holding midfielder with a better range of passing which I dont think is Corks strength....

Agree that Banega & Wanyama could play in same midfield, but with the sums being bandied around for Damiao I can't see us signing both anymore. Would be looking at close to £50m spent if we got all three (Banega, Wanyama, Damiao) + Lovren. Competition for AMC role is reasonable (Ramirez, Lallana, Davis) so can only see Banega coming in if interest in Ramirez materializes and Cortese decides to/wants to offload him, or of course, if the Wanyama deal goes tits up. Both of those possibilities looking quite unlikely at the moment.

Bif of a curveball that Everton comes into the picture......

They have been heavily linked with him in the past few weeks - the main roadblock has been the sale of Fellaini. Wanyama would be a natural successor of sorts.

Could be genuine interest from Everton, in which case they'll need to stump up quite a bit of cash to get Kone, Alcaraz & Wanyama. As Nixon says, they'll probably have to sell if they want all three.

Could also be a move from Wanyama's side to force Saints and any other potential suitors into making a decision and to get the deal done. Whatever the case, I'm sure this one will rumble on for a little while longer yet.

He also writes that our interest has cooled, despite MP saying we wanted him in his press conference. Then again, he gets a lot of transfer stuff right.

Perhaps MP is using Wanyama interest as a smokescreen to secure our top midfield target? It is the silly season after all! Who knows - I'm going to bed! :?

Baines and Fellaini should raise £25m.

Everton enter the race according to Nixon, but they have to sell first.

Hardly fills me with dread as it will take Everton weeks to scramble together the pennies for this deal, unless of course, they are close to selling Fellaini/Baines. Not sure why the headlines reads 'Saints interest cools'. Nothing in the body of the article to suggest this, and all the stuff on the OS suggests we are very much in the hunt.
