beavis17 Posted 20 June, 2013 Share Posted 20 June, 2013 Would take our spending to £20m if true. If we offered the same amount for Osvaldo then the chances are that we'll spend a lot more than the rumoured £30m.

Lallana's Left Peg Posted 20 June, 2013 Share Posted 20 June, 2013 It's a squad game. They will all play I would be very surprised to see all three start a game. Does not reflect the way Pochettino likes to play and Davis played further forward when Cork and Schneiderlin also started so if Wanyama took his place then at least one of them would need to be further forward which isn't a natural position for any of them. Plus if all three played that means Ramirez out on the wing (no thanks). Not saying by any stretch of the imagination that Cork won't get plenty of games but all things being equal I see him being replaced by Wanyama if he signs. Unless there is a formation change of course.

Red And White Barmy Army Posted 20 June, 2013 Share Posted 20 June, 2013 A lot of who's in and out of the team comes down to the system (and player adaptability within it). Did we play 4-2-3-1 last year because MP thought we wouldn't have enough possession to gradually gain ground and get the CMs up the field? If so, we may do a Barca and go to 4-1-2-2-1 if we are better at ball retention (because of better players). 2 questions because my research is limited (sorry if already discussed) - 1) Did MP always play 4-2-3-1 at Espanyol or did he try to progress it to 4-1-2-2-1 at any point? and 2) How flexible is Wanyama - can he play #10 in the 4-2-3-1? SuperMikey Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 This is how I would envisage the team with Wanyama in it. jasonb Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 Great video that. He looks the mutt's nuts. A younger version of Michael Essien. Agreed. Victor looks like he would compliment Morgan very nicely. This guy looks like a top 4 player with his physical presence. I said earlier on in the thread I'd be amazed if Arsenal don't get him. He looks like an Arsenal player. Having said that it would be a proper show of intent to prize this guy away from the Celts. I have been reading their main forum a little bit following this story and a perception is emerging that we may be a stepping stone club for some of these unproven youngsters. I don't mind this idea at all. If we are genuinely trying to establish ourselves then these hungry kids can come and play for us no problem

B Rabbit Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 Was reading their main forum last night and some of their comments suggest they would be most unhappy if he were to join a club of 'our stature'. There are a few sensible ones on there that appreciate it's premiership football and we have an absolute fortune...but there are many on there that think Wanyama would walk into a top 4 teams midfield...should be going to AC Milan, Inter, Man City...etc...and that it's a step down coming to us... Agree that Celtic are a huge club...their league is appalling though. Wanyama will be missing Champions League Football but will probably be earning 3 times as much here and playing top division. If he uses us as a stepping stone for a couple of years before moving to a genuine powerhouse then so be it..he's only 21 and value should only increase. Milan and Inter whilst both massively bigger than us are not the clubs they were, Milan will have to qualify for the champions league next year and Inter finished down in 9th. Both are struggling financially so I doubt they are going to able to come up with £12 million odd unless they sell. Man City don't really need him, they have Toure and just signed Fernandinho. It's Arsenal I would worry about, they have the cash, stature and gaping hole in their midfield for this sort of player. Looking at the videos and a few assessments of Wanyama he looks quality but he doesn't seem to be a Cork type player, seems more like Morgan, more box to box. He gives us pace and power in the midfield which we don;t have, more threat in the air and he seems to have a decent long shot on him as well. People are comparing him to Toure and Viera, if he gets close to them we could have one hell of player. a couple of seasons with us and we could be selling him for £30+ million. Sour Mash Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 Agreed, that looks a very strong team! It's the only way I can see all three CMs fitting into one team is if Schneiderlin plays further forward, leading the high pressing game right at the top of the pitch. Still can't see all three playing often at the same time though.

eelpie Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 I agree as I feel Morgan and Corks partnership is key for us. Not sure Wanyama would just come in and do Corks job seamlessly. Let us also not forget that it was Cork's return to the team that coincided with a change in form last season. All the players were jaded towards the end of the season. We shouldn't judge one player's form at that time too harshly. I think some are being a bit overcritical of Cork who played some outstanding games. His partnership with Schneiderlin is massive. However with competition for places and hopefully more strength in depth all the players will get opportunities to be rested and that should ensure they last the pace of a heavy season. I feel that Wanyama could make a difference especially if he is as strong as people say. He could create a tougher central misfield against some of the more physical teams that we have previously wilted against.

PercyR Posted 21 June, 2013 Share Posted 21 June, 2013 Would be the better option for us. Although I suspect you are just making this up That's assuming that he would be a £30m+ player in a couple of years time. I think he would only be worth that much if we gatecrashed the top 4 and, if we did, I very much doubt we would be looking to sell him so soon or that he would be looking to move on so I'd pay £10m with 10% sell on, but sell Guly anyway (to the highest bidder)...
