#saintsfc boss Mauricio Pochettinho in his own words, on Victor Wanyama and advancing other possible... http://boo.fm/b1485039 via @audioboo

Interesting comments from MP. Sounds like perhaps Wanyama's team are trying to hold out to see what else becomes available whereas we want him to decide now.

Or maybe not.

Edit:

Looks right from this:

Sources close to the player intimated to supersport.com that Wanyama might decide his future in the next two weeks though his advisors had talked him out of accepting the Southampton deal.

"Wanyama left the country yesterday (Wednesday) for Scotland where he will join his Celtic team mates in pre-season in Germany. Reports about an intended move have unsettled him since he does not want to be seen as being in a hurry to move. The Southampton deal has not impressed him as his wish is to move to a bigger team but he will be patient as there more time until the transfer window is closed," the source told supersport.com.

Mail thinks Cardiff are ready to give up on Wanyama after Celtic rejected an 11m bid from them.

So it looks like we will soon be the only show in town. Which means Celtic will be desperate to sell as he is out of contract next year, his value will plummet if he doesn't go this window.

Is this a case of someone who has a rather over inflated opinion of his worth? To start with I felt a wee bit sorry that he was seemingly being mucked around by his agents and that he might be left in limbo. I have now got to the stage where I don't really care any more and rather hope that we don't sign him. He obviously isn't particularly interested in us. Lovren seems much more keen on joining us, and seemingly has a better attitude. I know the kid is looking after himself and trying to get the best pay day possible, but really, I doubt we were offering him peanuts.

Our knob is firmly through that glory hole, cardiff have flicked their red (once blue) little pecker around but its not quite the length of ours.

Soon celtic wont have any choice but to pucker up

Well he didn't play for Celtic yesterday in a pre season friendly

He arrives from Kenya tomorrow to join up with Celtic squad which has always been his scheduled return date. Our offer is on the table, Celtic want him to sign for us as it's the best offer around, he has a to make a decision and soon.

OS makes direct reference to wanyama in this mornings article but not banega or daimao. Very unusual for saints to mention specific targets therefore I think deal could be close.

That article is lifted from the press conference yesterday, where Pochettino confirmed Saints interest in all three players.

Yes, but can you remember the official site ever referencing transfer targets by name before when discussed in a press conference during Adkins or Pochettino's reign? And they've both been asked lots of times. This is definitely a different approach.

Cardiff fans really giving it the big one on their forum..."he doesn't want to go to Southampton" blah blah...not quite sure why they think he would prefer to go to a newly promoted side who have an inferior team...

Whilst Cardiff aren't much smaller than Saints in terms of size...the fact that we are a year ahead, are getting recognition for being a very good football side and showing huge ambition...i don't see why he would choose Cardiff over Saints...unless he was offered £20k more a week, which i can't see

The quotes were out there anyway. They could have chosen not to report them but IMO MP's whole appraoch re Wanyama yesterday was to put the message out there that we won't stand for them stalling.

It wouldn't suprise me if Wanyama is our first choice for CM and we have put a deadline on it, and will move on to other targets, hence MP being happy to mention Banega.

Wanyama's people need to make a decision either way rather than stalling and waiting for a so called bigger club to come in for him.

Kinda irrelevant if Cardiff can't afford the asking price and nobody else but us is bidding for him! They aren't even in the running until they find a bit more cash down the back of their sofa.

He already believes he is better than us. How will he then feel if he can't dislodge Cork and Morgan from their starting positions. Let's not forget that they were possibly two of the best young CMs in Europe last year (functioning as such as a pair)and they will only get better with last year's experience under their belts. Cue grumpy, disruptive African on bench with money hungry agent fueling the fire.

Cork and Morgan are proven and this guy is not proven week in week out at this level. We need a defensive midfielder back up but I for one am not sure about this bloke, at this price, with this attitude and this agent!

two of the best young CMs in europe

are they that good? come on

Statistically Morgan was one of the best performing defensive midfielders in all of Europe's top 5 leagues. It's definitely our strongest position so in theory the most difficult are to challenge for a first team place.

Saying that I would imagine he would start ahead of Cork.

Agreed that MS and JC are an excellent combination but teams and players improve through competition and so it's important that when we bring new players in they are able to challenge the established players. Also, if we lose MS or JC for any period through injury or suspension then we need to see a player come in who can do as good a job. There is nothing from Wanyama to suggest that he is grumpy or disruptive, or as another poster put it, 'thick and money mad'.

I'm not sure the fact that he is African, or more specifically Kenyan, has anything to do with this. There have been no direct quotes from Wanyama about the (possible) transfer yet, so let's not tarnish him based on the machinations of his agent. Neil Lennon has repeatedly stated that he has no problems with the player, only his representatives, so I don't see him being a problem if we do indeed sign him.

The Cork-Morgan axis has obviously been very successful for us, but if we have European aspirations or are targeting a decent cup-run, then we will need to rotate every position, not just CM. I see no reason why all three can't play in the same team together, if we are setting up more defensively away from home for instance in a 4-5-1 (being only a slight variation on the 4-3-3 we play anyway). I'm sure Morgan and Wanyama, both being able to play the box-to-box role, can be pushed further forward to provide more goal threat. Wanyama can even play CB, and Cork at RB for goodness sake. I don't know why his signing has to be construed as a negative, when his strength, versatility, pace will give us a lot more options - think of how Yaya Toure is often moved around in-game to change the dynamic of Citeh's play. If Cork/Morgan/Wanyama shared 25-30 games each between them, and we perform well enough in the league and in cups, I really can't envisage there being an issue.

Functioning as a pair (as the post stated) which CM partnerships do you think were better in the PRem last season? Schneiderlin's stats speak for themself, as does as our change in form when Cork came into the team.

Cork and Schneiderlin were excellent for us. Sandro and Dembele were superb also for Spurs, until Sandro got injured.

What is clear for Saints though, is that when one or other of JC or MS werent available we had nobody else who could do a job in there (Davis and JWP not good enough ball winners). That is what makes a CM signing essential, especially for the way we play.

Don't disagree that we can't go through a whole season with just Cork and Schneiderlin as CMs. Our form with Cork's absence shows the impact of that. Still an interesting question as to how a "big" CM signing would be intergrated into the team.

See the Formation thread ;)

Interesting question though, whether he would see all of them playing together.

Cardiff local paper saying they have dropped out of the running.

Their forum still thinks they are getting him, but someone thinks they should go for Simon Davies instead. Have they not heard Robbie Keane and Charlie Adam are available?

http://www.cardiffcityforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=116676

Several of them seem pretty convinced he wants to go t them.

I'm pretty convinced he doesn't want to go to Cardiff or Saints but doesn't have many options.

What I don't get is Cardiff are willing to stump up for the extra agents fees of around £1 million but not the extra to £500k to Celtic, whereas with us it's the other way round, we are willing to pay £12 million but not an extra £5-600k to the agent.

In both cases it seems odd that both clubs are willing to pay £10-12 million for a player but aren't budging on around £600k. there must be more to it surely as otherwise Cardiff would just match our bid?

One report said our bid involves significantly more up front, could mean its actually a bigger difference than it suggests on paper.

As I have said before, we wouldnt agree what appears to be a very substantial fee, only to hide away at the players demands. He must have some interest in coming to us, we would have checked that before we agreed a fee.

Talk Sport reporting that Southampton have agreed personal terms with Wanyama and could be finalised as early at tonight #Saintsfc

Another one of those annoying Twitter accounts but still.

Hmm, will see about this. That Twitter acct has made stuff up before. Not sure what the point of doing so is, but looks like that is the case here.

So he could be merely hours away from magically changing from a money grabbing typical greedy footballer scumbag to the perfect signing, a young and hungry player signed on to the "project", our vision for the club and thrilled about the young and hungry talent he'll be playing with.
