Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 24 June, 2013 Share Posted 24 June, 2013 So, now we not even speaking to the player because we knew ages ago what he wanted to join us? Then why did we suddenly agree a figure with Celtic??? Each passing revelation leaves us even further away from this being completed, according to the media. Apart from the hint Crab Lungs gave us, there's not been much on this from our usual ITK-ers too. Wouldn't bet against the arrival of a leftfield alternative arrival. Wes Tender Posted 24 June, 2013 Share Posted 24 June, 2013 Celtic reject £10m Wanyama bid from Premier League new boys Cardiff Cardiff have been denied permission to speak to Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama after placing a £10million bid for the Kenyan. Celtic have accepted £12m from Southampton but the South Coast club have not agreed terms with Wanyama. Despite talk of the player holding further negotiations with Southampton, Wanyama's representative Ivan Modia said: 'It is completely untrue that we are holding talks with Southampton. 'They were made aware some weeks ago what the player was looking for. At that time they were not prepared to meet that so, as far as we are concerned, discussions with Southampton ended some weeks ago. 'The player is in Kenya and has no immediate plans for a quick return. The player will not be railroaded into a move that is not right for him.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2347671/Celtic-reject-10m-Victor-Wanyama-bid-Premier-League-new-boys-Cardiff.html?ito=feeds-newsxml Frankly, I'm beginning to hope that he doesn't get any other offers anywhere and has to stay at Celtic. It will serve him right. pressingon: Maybe they should make the players pay their agents from their own signing on fee. Good idea. Or the player should be told that he can have a bigger signing on fee which includes an element of agent's fees, out of which he can assess how much he thinks his agent deserves. Saint Charlie Posted 24 June, 2013 Share Posted 24 June, 2013 So if we know what the player wants we would hardly have continued to talk to Celtic and agree a fee if we had no intention of paying him well. Its just ones of these transfer sagas. Right now I reckon it won't happen but if it does then great. Wanyama clearly waiting for a more illustrious team to bid. trousers Posted 24 June, 2013 Share Posted 24 June, 2013 So you're saying Ramirez lied then? The original Italian article inserted the amounts in brackets within the interview text, rather than including it as direct dialogue, which could suggest that it was inserted after the interview which, in turn, could suggest the figure wasn't a direct quote from Ramirez but instead something the interviewer heard from another source. Sour Mash Posted 24 June, 2013 Share Posted 24 June, 2013 So, the BBC Scotland article published a few hours ago saying talks were back on was a load of baloney...? Regardless of what the current status quo is, I can't see his claim of "talks ending weeks ago" being true, that really wouldn't make sense and therefore throws a bit of doubt on the rest of his statement. Also, Wanyama can't stay on holiday in Kenya indefinitely, he'll have to start making some decisions and thinking about pre-season prep reasonably soon. trousers Posted 24 June, 2013 Share Posted 24 June, 2013 So they plucked the figure out of the sky. I've no idea. Just suggesting that the way the original article was written leaves an element of doubt that the figures were a direct quote from Ramirez. Why put the figures in brackets rather than directly quote them if Ramirez stated them as part of the interview? That said, could just be me reading too much into the punctuation. Suomi Saint Posted 25 June, 2013 Share Posted 25 June, 2013 It seems that the player and his agent(s) are getting squeezed - one side by Saints and the other by Celtic. Otherwise, Celtic would have given Cardiff permission to speak to Wanyama. However, the current situation could also be very simple - it reflects that Saints are no longer interested and that Celtic are holding out for 12M from Cardiff or another club. To be honest, we should move on. If Wanyama and his mates are trying to get 1M+ for doing very little then that is just an insult to Saints, the fans, and the football industry in general. And there is no guarantee that this guy would actually be a success. Jog on mate.

JoeShmoe Posted 25 June, 2013 Share Posted 25 June, 2013 You'd hope no other clubs would cave in for that sort of agent fee, aside from the top 4 and he ain't going there No doubt Celtic see this as a good deal as well and are equally annoyed The ball seems to be in the agents court now as whatever hopes they had of last minute interest appear to have not happened

Professor Posted 25 June, 2013 Share Posted 25 June, 2013 All players we will be signing will generally do so for the money Footballers are not the exception, we all work for money, but people perform better if they enjoy their work and share in the objectives of their employer. If money is the only driver, the employer is better off without the employee. We only have the press reports to go on, but there is nothing in those that would make me choose to take on this young man who appears to be advised by people who have more interest in enriching themselves and less in furthering his career. tajjuk Posted 25 June, 2013 Share Posted 25 June, 2013 I think that people should remember that the guy is only 21, I imagine the agents have secured his moves to Europe from Kenya as a young kid (he was only 17 I think) so you've got a young guy playing football in fairly obscure and poor country and these guys get him to fame and fortune. It's no surprise really he's listening to them and maybe feels he has a bit of loyalty to them. Plus doesn't this agent only really have one other major client? Pienaar, who is 31 now and is unlikely to get another big move so basically the agent's career probably depends on Wanyama. If Celtic are happy with our deal I wonder if they could divert some of the transfer funds to the agent as a compromise, maybe make up the £500k difference, they would still be making £1.5 million more then what Cardiff are offering.
