Victor Wanyama - Officially Signed

so as well as being able to win headers with no one around him and pass sideways and backwards he runs around alot and is quite strong. I'm sure our fans will love him.

He's incredibly strong for a 21 year-old. Can win and hold possession against the greatest possession team of all time.

He's a holding midfielder; they dictate tempo and play possession. They play the ball backwards or sideways when they need to for those purposes, and this is what, for example, Cork and Schneiderlin do. He played a perfectly good forward ball in the clip I mentioned.

He ran a long way and won the ball. A lot of players would have given up on it, and many of those who didn't wouldn't have got there.

oh that's alright then, he was only chasing shadows for 58 minutes.

Do you actually believe that when a player is not on or around the ball, at any point in a football match, he must be 'chasing shadows'? Imagine you're taking the mick.

The ball is not in play for 94 minutes.

For example... in the 2009/10 seaosn on average in a Premier League matches the ball was in play for 62.39 minutes.

Wanyama is only one player out of 22 on the pitch.

Ok 4 minutes out of 62 minutes. I think he's a good player and would be a very good signing for us, but your video told us very little.

one forward ball for every 9 sideways or backwards ones, quite a few humps forward and lots of running around. The " dont mess about with it, get it forwarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd" brigade at SMS will love him.

Wish i hadnt seen that..... Looks like he panics on the ball a bit, likes an aimless punt upfield and quite a few missed passes in that footage.

Seems to favour the use of the arms in the tackle (its not rugby mate!) will earn him alot of yellows in the prem!

#worried

Glad I am not the only one after watching him "boss" barca

Looks very Alex Song like but not as good at passing

I'm not sure you could be further from the truth. Do you prefer us to 'mess about with it' as it were and keep possession? This is your man.

I have 3 words for anyone impressed by 4 minutes of youtube footage......

Steve De Ridder

Fair point - nobody should take this as their only evidence that he's any good but the opposition is at least a fair deal better than what De Ridder was against.

Wait a minute, didn't Utd lose at home against Cluj in the CL last season, perhaps Cluj have someone we could throw 20 million at. The yardstick is Scottish domestic football, it's too weak to be able to judge any player on. Let Stoke have the bugger cos 12 million is too much..

Victor Wanyama rejected Southampton, telling Southern Daily Echo that the terms offered were not 'right'. -W.

That´s just another 16 yr old boy with no life.

Seems his agent is doing all the rejecting and accepting anyway. It's a bloody 2 horse stable to all intents and purposes, Wanyama and Pienaar, agent has to score big cos he ain't got much to haggle over.

Hes far from the finished article but looks strong in the tackle, has a good touch, can see a good pass and has a good shot on him looking through the various vids.

Worth a punt imo.

£12m is not a punt mate!

it's not just 12 million though; When Pienaar (same agent) went from Everton to Spurs he was asking 70K a week so the deal broke down, he then cut his ambitions a bit but wound up at about 55 or so. He didn't make it really and was pushed back to Everton eventually after a loan period to the same club. No doubt Wanyama despite his young age and relative inexperience of top flight football is asking for a similar sum and if we get saddled with him and then find out he isn't the bee's after all we're in for a long old 4 years or so. Fortunately I have faith in Nicola not to give in to exhorbitant demands so it might not be a problem in the offing. All over Europe clubs are finding that once you're saddled with a player on a big contract you are absolute fooked if he doesn't perform.

Like Ramirez you mean, the £12m player on £70,000pw for four years who came to Saints instead of Spurs because Spurs wouldn't meet his wage demands

Not saying that you are one of those.

Bit funny how the Gaston bashers always seems to "forget" this part and saying that all he came for was the money...

Ramirez added: "They believe in me in every way... And above all I have said that they are going to grow.

"Southampton is a newly promoted team in the English top flight, but they have the means to stand tall in a few years. And with me they are going to build. It's all very stimulating. Even if it is a little strange".

Ive said all along I thought it was the wrong signing at the wrong price and at wages which risked upsetting the squad harmony.

Without going in to specifics, there is not one single player at Southampton football club earning more than £50k a week.

Not saying someone is on 50k but certainly taking that figure as a yardstick, and no one comes out on top of it so I don't know where you get £70k from?

Read that sentence again.

Anyway, enough talk about youtube videos. You guys are wrong about Wanyama - he is a good player and could well be an absolutely fantastic one. Mark my words.

We've established tonight that despite running around a lot he's only involved for 5 minutes a game on average, only passes sideways or backwards apart fon when he panics and lumps it forward and has a shocking disaplinary record. Still think he's worth £12m?

£12million is a hell of a lot for a player that could be better than Cork, but unlikely to be an improvement on Morgan. Overall would have to say I'd rather Banega, taking into account the fee, the level they've already proven themselves at, their ability & their potential.

Saying that I do have faith in the transfer committee, so lets see what materializes...it's certainly more exciting than hearing of N'Guessan & Forte signing!

I think it's pretty easy for people forget "I've just signed/great facilities/delighted to be here" rent-a-quotes from players who have just signed. It's not worth remembering.

Very sweet that you take it as gospel though.

It's more impactful to make stuff up
