Definitely going to that one seems I missed out on it last season.

Is this officially the 'Build Up Thread'?

Think they'll be a full house there and very high demand due to it being on Sky and a Monday last year. Let's hope they sort tickets on last years attendance.

Considering that WBA were one of a select handful of teams (arguably the only team) to ream our asses over both fixtures last season, thats one hell of a statement....

Apart from the fact that they will be going through a period of transition from Fergusson to Moyes. Until we see them play, we shouldnt hold fear of them.

Just to clarify, we should write off both WBA games now, but have a good chance of getting a few points off United?

In your mind yes, others would notice they also go destroyed by Norwich and others. They're a good side but clearly beatable, so 'challenging but winnable' isn't exactly much of a statement. Probably exactly what they'd say about us and what we'd say about most games given we've beaten the best sides. It means you can win or lose any game.

So why are so many so worked up about the sequence of the fixture list ?

Really Alps? They caught us napping but we gave the top five sides a real scare.

West Brom? Nothing to fear but a good challenge... Don't really think I'm being controversial there...

Great start for us, should allow us - if we play as we can - to get a decent foothold in the upper-mid table area's, rather than be consigned to the bottom 3 by October.

We need the points though, as the run in looks atrocious on paper - but who knows how the season will pan out???

Thing with WBA, is they won't have Lukaku or Fortune this season. They caused us plenty of problems. I'm more confident with them not being there, I do rate them as a very handy side though.

They were so key to their play last year, Steve Clark's tactics at St Mary's were spot on, let us push up, draw us in then catch us on the break using Lukaku and to a lesser extent Fortune and their third striker (Irish... forget his name) to punish us with their pace and power. His ability to replace 2 of those three will determine how their season goes.

That's the best bit really, doubt they can find someone of Lukaku's quality again like that which will change their game plan a fair bit.

Yep, nice opening to the season. Can't believe they are sending us to Cardiff on Boxing Day and away to Hull on a Tuesday night.... fecking ridiculous. Bit of a nightmare end to the season though.

I have to say that I think the Christmas fixtures are pretty unfair - it looks like whoever is away on Boxing Day is then also away on Saturday 28th - those at home have two home fixtures. Big advantage not to be travelling when you've got 2 fixtures in 3 days - I do feel the Saturday fixtures should have been reversed.

My mate was hoping to plan his stag do around bank hol weekend although nothing booked yet, now just need to convince him to move it to the weekend before so don't miss first game the season!!

Luckily it's an away match the following weekend when his wedding is.

Very different start to the season compared to last year. Could it be a title decider against Man U at St Mary's on the last day of the season!

Yes, but will they stop us from winning the title?

;-)

Not happy with WBA the first day. I'm away, and it's my nearest game and a good place to go.

Hull midweek is annoying too as had planned weekend with daughter.

And Cardiff on Boxing Day. A ground I haven't done, and can't make that.

So not particularly gruntled.

Our main concern is not who we're playing, but HOW WE are playing... our inconsistency is the single biggest determining factor over our performances and results... we know we can beat almost anyone in this league, as evidenced by the Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City results... but we have let ourselves down in other games. With a few new players, some additional quality, and some quality time on the training ground, I really hope we can at least eradicate the non-performances that we still seem to put in from time to time. I don't mind losing if we've given it a go, even if it's to Crystal Palace or Hull, because that will happen... but I want to see us at the races more often.

I do. We're gonna get some disappointing draws from games we should have won. We'll win some we expected to lose. and lose some we expected to win. And we'll end up safe, and higher up the table than we did last year. It's easy this football malarkey.

It's good that our start is far easier than last season's and that should enable us to get some points on the board early on and build up a head of steam and gain some confidence.

Whereas I looked at the fixture list last season and had some trepidation about most of the teams there, I find myself shrugging my shoulders at most of them now. For the first time since I've been a regular in the top flight watching Saints, I actually really feel confident that we could beat any of those teams on our day.

The weekend before the bank holiday is the first game of the season isn't it?
