Chelsea Coaching in Southampton

Isn't this a similar sort of thing as the situation one of the Bristol teams were complaining about us for, as we've got some training thing near them? The main difference being this is a one off event, whereas we have a full time location trying to attract the youth in that area (think it's in bath or somewhere near there).

Anyhew, we can't really moan about other teams doing this if we're doing the same.

It is a bit cheeky, but it looks to be as much a promotional drive for Samsung's white goods as it is about scouting for talent.

Chelsea have several development centres down here, running week-in, week-out. I know because my son goes to one. Excellent coaching. Hope Saints get the benefit of it one day, when all the Chelsea youngsters are released to make room for Abramavich's world-wide signing sprees.

It goes on all the time with many different clubs giving coaching sessions all over the country. Saints do the same to a limited extent, on the IW and also around Reading sometimes. Up here during the summer there will usually be coaching sessions by Arsenal, Chelsea, ManU at least. It is nothing like the issue with official pro football club academies such as ours in Bath which is a full-time year round set up. It has little or nothing to do with scouting for talent, more to do with engaging supporters of the clubs and getting their kids hooked on that club for life. Whether you like it or not there are probably more kids that support Arsenal or ManU in Southampton than support Saints, sad fact of life these days. Saints used to do some excellent similar coaching days for kids, both boys and girls, I think they still do, but there is no-one there really scouting and sadly it does not usually involve any players visiting in my experience, nevertheless the coaching is of a very good standard and the kids enjoy it.

Im a coach and know how these things work, they make out like Saints do that, if you son goes he has a CHANCE of being spotted by the talent development officer, but very rare does it happen, some of the Saints coaches maybe level 2 but are awful same went for pompeys community coaches aldo they did have a older guy who was a great coach.

any kid wanting to play for Chelsea had better look at their squad sysyem, the number of players who actually make it through their ranks, and get a regular spot in the first team can be counted ...on one thumb.

The last person to start with them at a pre-teen stage and go right through the system, play for England at (almost) all youth levels U16, 17, 18, 19, 20, and U21 - didn't even get to play a single game in the Prem.

His name was ..... Jack Cork, and look what happened to him! So youngsters - if you fancy Chelsea.....good luck, just don't expect to play football at Prem.level.

Guys, I can promise you Chelsea are not treading on anyone’s toes. They have been operating in Hampshire for the past three years and have built up a very good portfolio. The club are just expanding their foundation programme nationally and internationally. They have some very good coaches working in Hants, developing multiskills, disability football on top of their development centres. You will find their satellite centre is in Ash.

The DC's have been running for two years and the foundation are now only just beginning to look to send players for academy level trials as long as the players are unattached (boys and girls).

They've had a lot of unfair and bad press from Pompey even with first team staff coming out in the local paper slating coaches(even though they offered two full time roles to get these Chelsea coaches with them).

As for the above link, it is just a promotional programme on behalf of Samsung's show truck (TV's, washing machines etc) and is very basic coaching/games for all children.

Competition is healthy. As Monk says, Pompey have moaned and groaned about this. We're much bigger and better than them and shouldn't need to react in such a tinpot and amateurish way.

I hope your young charges understand you better than I do.

Chelsea have about 9 scouts down here (I've been out of it for a couple of years, so not sure if it is more or less these days).

These guys are not all that (With the exception of Kev Coates). We had a team that was chosen to play against the Chelsea academy, and then trialists from across the country, over three matches at their training ground in Cobham. We won the first two and they refused to play the third :) :) :) :)

They were well out depth and this was supposed to be the best of the best.

They can come down here all they like - they are not in the same league as Saints scouts.

Monk - take it from me that the Chelsea foundation guys are doing a great job here in Southsea. My 5yo lad goes to an after school club every week and for full-days when the school is off for teacher training. Really nice guys, all the kids love it and if Chelsea weren't doing it the kids wouldn't be getting any football at all due to the incompetence of Pompey.

Yes, the Chelsea coaches will absolutely not follow up any kid that proves to be exceptional i'm sure.

They play matches for all of 10 mins after doing a load of obstacles that doesn't involve a lot of ball work. I took my kid to the one in Leeds. There was another lad who plays in the same local team as mine, he is in the the Man U and Leeds academy's that as always stood out like a sore thumb, a natral talent, didnt get picked ou, none of them did. Also the white goods stand which is displaying Samsungs new products and giving out free coffee and snacks might have something to do with it.
