Ferraris don't last for Ever...

The bloke speaking over that video sounds like a right simpleton. Why is he speaking like that?

I like the colleague of his who says Banega did the right thing by getting out the car. Incredible quick thinking. Most other players would have just sat in it and burned to death.

Banega looks quality, but would this mean the end of gaston playing in the hole? If we can get ramirez playing behind the striker and too his full potential hes the main man for this position, would be great to be able to fit both into the side though

Banegra doesn't play in the hole

Haha, I'd forgotten that was him.

Left the hand brake off whilst filling his car at the petrol station on the way to game and broke his leg & ankle. Perhaps offering him a driver might swing the deal!!

Would it be a bit cheeky to guess that although he is an extremely talented footballer.... maybe he isn't too bright?

Another article highlighting Banega's off the field antics, probably goes a long way to explain why the proposed fee is so low given his talent. Not to mention Valencia's poor financial situation, which will likely get worse without CL money coming in to prop them up.

So great player potentially but a career in Spain so far tarnished by car issues ( just unlucky I'm sure especially it rolling back over his foot ), video tapes of "lewd sex acts" , night clubbing, and arriving at training still under the influence.

Let's hope Puncheon can put him under his protective wing and sort him out if he joins.

This would be one hell of a coup, my only concern is about the dressing room dynamics changing, we will soon have a number of big time Charlie's and some major egos. Hopefully it's not too destructive with the existing squad, but if we are going to move on to the next level, then this change is inevitable. This signing would be up there with the best of them. I can only think of Keegan in my life time (and I was probably too young to understand the hysteria). Benga is some player, if we pull his off, then despite Cortese's flaws, he is really taking Saints global

Just don't see the Hooper thing. Doesn't really fit in with our policy and don't think he's worth the money. Would rather see us bring in someone from abroad who is better.

Would be nice to sign the odd Englishman now and again, being a English team and all that!

I think Hooper is a good player, another SRL type, will score goals in the Prem I think

His behaviour, or the lack of it, is quite alarming in all honesty. You could probably classify the hard partying as 'high spirits,' but siphoning the python on webcam is pretty disgusting. I don't want this type of idiot at my club, irrespective of whether he is a good player or not.

He is a total prat by all accounts, do we really want him at our club. And yes, I have you tubed him destroying Barcelona and Athletic.... he really is immense on the field. Do we want all that comes with him. Will he be our suarez or tevez?

Banega is a genius on the field, but a madman off it

Like that quote. I reckon him and Boruc will get on well.

He wears the number 10 for Valencia but he's not that player, more of Xabi Alonso type player.

Hooper only has a year left on his contract, so I doubt a potential fee will be anything like as high as £8m. I could see him going for £5-6m, which for a player of his age is probably not terrible value.

Banega would be a massively impressive signing. If you think about it, were it not for off the pitch issues, we would have absolutely no chance of signing a player of his ability, he would have been playing for one of the bigger European sides by now.

I think it's quite refreshing not to have another bland, sanitised, media trained player. He's just a throwback to the seventies when footballers liked to get ****ed and have a good time.

It's funny how when fans really want a player to sign, his off field activities are a breath of fresh air or acceptable but the likes of Tevez etc are complete bell ends.

Tevez refused to go on as a sub. A little bit different than going on the razzle.

Not sure that's the case apart from the post immediately above yours.

I'm in agreement with the doubts raised below to be honest.

Could easily disrupt harmony "on the bus".

But then again, perhaps Pochettino is a type who might tame and contain him.

Pinocchio will get the best out of any player and will relish the challenge of managing talent + behaviours.

He has proved his abilities in this dept time and time and time again but still people question his gift ffs

Who is this bloke?

Murray Groves ‏@MurrayGroves 15m Valencia have allowed Southampton to open negotiations with Argentine international midfielder Ever Banega after the clubs agreed a €9m fee.

I've looked at what he has said this month and he has not been right yet but then neither wrong as the players he has spoken about have not gone anywhere yet.

Miguel Delaney follows him but that's the only reputable journalist following him that I have on my timeline. Pinch of salt for sure

This Spanish source seems to thing that the chance of Banega ever playing for us is virtually nil.

Is this the spanish equivalent of Lawro "no way he'll go to Southampton" ?

Personally, not totally enamoured with the idea of stacking the club with Argies. If it kicks off in the South Atlantic again any time soon we might find ourselves up the proverbial creek.

2 is hardly 'stacking'. I also doubt that some blustering by the Argentinian government over some sheep filled islands is going to upset a playboy footballer.

We just signed a Croatian should we have avoided it in case the Balkans kicks off again. Perhaps we should avoid signing Germans, perhaps Morgan is a risk in case Napoleon is resurrected, no Italians in case the Romans invade, Spanish are risky as well, the Scots may invade again soon I guess, so thats Danny Fox out (OK so some positives). You really are incredible.

I think this is a lazy article. The author is dismissive of SFC IMO based on old fashioned values ie how many trophies and how often you played and won in europe and how often you won your league etc etc. Inference is that a player like him would never take the step down to play for a club like us. Nowadays we all know that's tosh.

Its tosh because if former World Player of the year and World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro can go play for El Arabicclubineverheardofbeforehejoinedthem, African superstar + legend player of the year Samual Eto can play for Anzhi wotsit in Siberia and Serie A legend WC winning icon Del Piero can play for Sydney FC then Ever Banega, who relatively speaking has done f-all in his career to date compared to those and is not ready to even clean their boots as a player yet, can play for Southampton in the EPl. ( if NC waves a big holdall full of cash at him and allow him an easy release clause if Real Madrid want him one day that is, or if he doesn't like the weather, the food, we get relegated, he gets tackled, or abused or has family issues...all the standard get out clauses we heard trotted out for Tevez basically).

The "project" is code for " I'm being paid a lot a lot of money, and that is why i am prepared to take that money and see if the big ideas of this relatively unknown but now wealthy club can come to something in the next few years, but if it doesn't I am made for life anyway so I've nothing to lose".

PS. yes i do realise he is at the start of his career not the end, but you do not lose international exposure by playing in the EPl thats for sure- hence its worth a punt for a lot of them to buy "the project".
