Anyone else not exactly thrilled by Lovren?

Call me a bedwetter all you like guys but this Lovren bloke does not fill me at all with confidence and/or joy. I've watched enough videos and read about him quite a bit over the past 3-4 hours (yes I'm bored!) and he looks average-good at best. Error-prone to say the least. Certainly no Astori who's in a different class IMO.

Also looking like we totally overpaid for him. Something like £8m?? Not worth more than two Forrens surely! On the subject of Forren, wasn't he supposed to be first choice next season?? Now with Yoshida a shoo-in in the first XI the other CB position already had strong competition prior to Lovren and IMO we did not need to sign another... or at least not break the bank for a full international when a lower league player (or academy product) would of been more than good enough backup!

Also, weren't we good enough defensively under MP towards the end of last season that we didn't need to improve substantially in defence? It was our GOALS FOR column that needed improving and that is where our funds should of been focused IMO. This £8m or whatever it was will almost certainly put a dent in our ability to purchase top quality where we need it the most (forward, winger). A shame, for me.

Decent enough signing overall I guess and glad we showed we can compete with the big boys financially and in attracting players... but all things considered I'm left with a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth.

Just can't help thinking we could of done so much better.

Do overall decent signings always leave a bitter taste?

How bad does the taste get if we make an average or mediocre signing?

Utterly mental.

The way he's been treated (for being honest) do you really expect him to reply?

Some of the replies on here are disgusting and 110% has been badly treated imho

Okay so a couple of questions for the OP - if you're not thrilled with Lovren as a signing, who would have thrilled you as a signing? And would you realistically expected Saints to sign them?

I wouldnt waste one of your posts Georgie, be it for Glasgie (who has worked his way up to the next level of troll) or 110, who, well, lets just say I saw the name and knew what was coming

Glasgow you would have a point if he had commented on which position we went for, or whether better available for the money but clearly, looking at facts, these bits show him ad one of the alpine like attention seeking without genuinely meaning what he says posters.

1) last three years playing for a top French side.

2) 12 starts in champions league

3) full international for one of top sides in world

4) only 23

Looking at stick poster gives to Jos and Fonte, a CB who had detailed reports linking him with top 6 sides, the above pedigree etc - the OP cannot be serious saying leaves bad taste, average player etc.

They are trolls

Notice the lack of reply by the OP anyone? The guys just a troll. Or head mental.

There's a reason I started my post with "call me a bedwetter"... because in the years I've been reading these boards (and they have been many years) that's precisely what anybody with even the slightest amount of unfanciful realism gets called by all the rose spectacled half blind delusional "optimists" living in la la land that seem to make up the majority on SWF.

After hoping the close season might of injected some perspective in those unreasonable idealists, I'm sad to have been proved wrong yet again. There's only one formula on here: give a different, fresh, perhaps not so optimistic opinion/view on things = get called a troll, mental, criticised and subjected to a shedload of abuse. On that note, what have I got to gain by replying other than subject myself to more insults?

You reckon?

I see what you did there. Nice little backhanded "compliment". I used to always defend you against your many haters on here by saying Turks is actually a decent bloke, not really a troll, just taking the p*ss etc. but maybe I should stop and treat you with the same contempt that most other folks on here do...

You are a legend on these boards Glasgow as I've told you before. I have only the utmost respect for you and can only hope others look at you as a model for how posters on a message board should react to opinions different to their own. Cheers for the solace mate, I'm glad someone like you exists around here. :)

Like you he has a 1st class honours degree in 'wumming', but he just has that little bit more experience which means he catches you with the double bluff !

I'd disagree with that for a start. Yoshida has had a decent season but I wouldn't consider him a shoo-in

I could maybe understand people moaning about players IF those fans had put several hundred thousand Pounds

of their own money towards the signing.

However as they didn't they should just wait and see the guy play and also rely on the judgement of the man who has

to justify the money spent to the Liebherr Trust.

Has 110 come up with an alternative yet?

I'm actually struggling to think whether we could have signed a better player in this position considering our status and without spending like £25 million on a player who is clearly not worth that much?

He's a regular at a top European club, played plenty of Champions league football, plays for for one of the best international teams around, was linked to a host of much bigger clubs than us and at 24 is still young for a centre-back. Add in he seems to have attributes that will suit this league well how could we have possibly done better for £8 million?

Gone are the days when Saints were the team with most home grown players. Under Cortese and Pochettino we are going to become a team of foreign mercenaries with whom we'll be fogged off with when Pochettino moves on, either by sacking or by poaching from abroad

What like when we had Niemi, killer, and lundekvam with English full backs, I.e Dodd and Higginbotham

So what's wrong with boruc, lovren and yoshida/fonte with shaw and clyne eh?

Hardly something new?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2311539/How-Premier-League-table-look-players-English.html We'd have been top of the Premier League had we only counted English goalscorers last season.

You'll call it hindsight, but I think several of us are " thrilled " by Lovren's performances so far, but then again .....we didn't condemn him before he'd even played a single game.

No, I think Glasgow simply retired this particular wumming incarnation. Glasgow probably placed a bet on lovren being our player of the year ...

This is the problem with posting a thread for the sake of it on here (happens daily it seems.... , you know nothing about world football other than the top 20 players and have to write a stupid thread about a player you know nothing about.

Have to say I love it when these get dug up and the poster looks a plum.

Why people post threads for the sake of it? Osvaldo missing must be a huge cover up drama... Oh it's just down to being injured etc yawn...!
