Anyone else not exactly thrilled by Lovren?

Call me a bedwetter all you like guys but this Lovren bloke does not fill me at all with confidence and/or joy. I've watched enough videos and read about him quite a bit over the past 3-4 hours (yes I'm bored!) and he looks average-good at best. Error-prone to say the least. Certainly no Astori who's in a different class IMO.

Also looking like we totally overpaid for him. Something like £8m?? Not worth more than two Forrens surely! On the subject of Forren, wasn't he supposed to be first choice next season?? Now with Yoshida a shoo-in in the first XI the other CB position already had strong competition prior to Lovren and IMO we did not need to sign another... or at least not break the bank for a full international when a lower league player (or academy product) would of been more than good enough backup!

Also, weren't we good enough defensively under MP towards the end of last season that we didn't need to improve substantially in defence? It was our GOALS FOR column that needed improving and that is where our funds should of been focused IMO. This £8m or whatever it was will almost certainly put a dent in our ability to purchase top quality where we need it the most (forward, winger). A shame, for me.

Decent enough signing overall I guess and glad we showed we can compete with the big boys financially and in attracting players... but all things considered I'm left with a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth.

Just can't help thinking we could of done so much better.

It won't put a dent in who we can purchase elsewhere as we have £50+ million available for transfers from rumours I have heard. It might actually help land a couple of our other targets by showing them we have ambition and players being monitored by bigger teams than us are willing to buy into our project and join us like Lovren.

I think a percentage of our fanbase are totally deluded in who they think we can sign expecting the top players in the world to come to us. For our current position Lovren is one hell of a coup especially when you read comments from lots of different journalists and fans on twitter saying how the hell did Southampton land Lovren.

He is definately a major upgrade on Jos and Jose for a start. How do we know that we are not trying to buy Astori aswell!!?

Lovren has bags of potential and I for one am willing to trust NC and MP and at least give Lovren a chance before writing him off

We were less offensive because MP could obviously see that we lacked the quality in defence to push players higher up the field. As has ben well documented on here, the mauling at St James' Park was when MP must have thought, "no, we can't play like this without a rehaul at the back". He's now rehauling so let's see what he can do.

Lovren might have had an awful season but let's give him, and MP's ability to pick a player, a chance.

The Transfer Committee and the manager obviously think differently to you!

Jos is not top 10 standard CB, hes a top Championship/ bottom 3/4 prem side CB at best, seems a nice guy and good for back up, however if were serious about a top 8 finish he needs to be 3rd or 4th choice.

Fonte Yoshida Forren and Lovren for me is a good defence to have, all good enough to play for any prem side out of the top 6/7, with Clyne and Shaw both future England full backs i feel we have a quality defence now and just need RB cover Winger and a new Striker if Sharp is off to complete a squad good enough for a 10th-8th place finish, and a good cup run QF/SF of league or fa cup.

Positive report and if he is sent off 3 times that will mean 9-12 games out so back up required.

Only if it's violent conduct. 2 yellows is a 1 match ban, as is a straight red for a professional foul. I'm not sure how the punishments stack up for repeat offences but I doubt he will be sent off 3 times again next year.

I've even managed to find a Bristol Rovers fan who felt that Rickie Lambert was over rated in my time.

Couldn't care less about the opinions of various randoms regarding Lovren. I have faith in the club management and just looking forward to seeing what he can do.

"Anyone else not exactly thrilled by Lovren?"

The problem with this is that it's what in legal terms would be called a 'leading question' or, in SW terms, an 'Alpine question'.

There may be problems in the way he plays, but you seem to have jumped on all the negatives. A bit of blah, blah, blah, and then you say you are 'left with a bitter taste in my mouth'. 'Can do much better' and then a facepalm...

Perlease! Why can't you use reasonable language? "What do you think of Lovren, doesn't he look a bit error prone?" and we could all have discussed it reasonably; after watching 4 hours of videos, naturally... As it is, yes, you come over as a troll and a bedwetter, and I hope my explanation whypeople think that will help you improve your posts here.
