Colinjb Posted 18 June, 2013 Author Posted 18 June, 2013 Pah, why couldn't I find that site earlier...?! lol You have the point Minty...
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 You have the point Minty... Eh? Thought you got it first?!
Lets B Avenue Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 Nope, it's Leeds 0-1 Saints, 29/10/66 Ron scored with a header from a corner taken by David Thompson (in for Sydenham). Leeds battered us but McLaren kept them out. I went to game with my Dad and older cousins and we managed to get back to their house, in Wokingham, in time to see MOTD.
Colinjb Posted 18 June, 2013 Author Posted 18 June, 2013 Eh? Thought you got it first?! I can't think of a question. Also I did cheat a little to confirm the answer.
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 OK then, here goes: Which player's interview with the Echo led to Gordon Strachan banning any player under the age of 21 speaking to the Press without the managers permission? (Anyone who knows me and probably knows the answer as a result, is not allowed to answer! )
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 Neither of them... interestingly I can't find any mention of it on the web anywhere, so if someone gets this by remembering it, I will be impressed. Clues to follow if need be.
Colinjb Posted 18 June, 2013 Author Posted 18 June, 2013 A youngster, must have misbehaved. Yohan Folly?
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 A youngster, must have misbehaved. Yohan Folly? Along the right lines, but incorrect.
Colinjb Posted 18 June, 2013 Author Posted 18 June, 2013 Youngsters in the squad at that time. Not Folly, Not Griffit, Not Purutts or Baird..... Scott Macdonald?
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 Nope. Here's a clue: He never appeared for the first team, and the interview that led to the sanction was about that exact fact.
Wurzel Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 OK then, here goes: Which player's interview with the Echo led to Gordon Strachan banning any player under the age of 21 speaking to the Press without the managers permission? (Anyone who knows me and probably knows the answer as a result, is not allowed to answer! ) How about those of us that know you but still don't have a bleeding clue
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 How about those of us that know you but still don't have a bleeding clue Guess away!
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 OK, another clue... this player was signed from Spain and ended up returning to Spain.
Big Bad Bob Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 OK, another clue... this player was signed from Spain and ended up returning to Spain. Is that the lad that Javi used to rave on and on and on and on about?
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 Is that the lad that Javi used to rave on and on and on and on about? Did he? I never noticed...
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 We have a winner! Jacinto did an interview in the Pink at the same time I was working for the Echo covering the Youth Academy... he was basically saying that he thought he deserved a chance in the First Team. Strachan didn't like and put the ban in place, but I didn't know about this when I went along for my regular weekly interview with an Academy player... I pitched up at Staplewood, told Stewart Henderson who I wanted to speak to that week, and he said 'OK' and nothing else... so I'm then stood pitchside interviewing (I think) Matt Crowell, and WGS comes striding over, shouting at me 'Hey, stop that, stop what you're doing!'... then proceeds to launch into me about 'you lot' meaning the Press (even though I was just doing an hour a week freelance), right infront of David Coles, Paul Jones, Neil Moss doing their keeper training in the corner of the training pitch. They just laughed, and I felt rather small! Stewart Henderson came back out afterwards, and I told him about it... he just said 'Oh yeah, sorry about that, I forgot!' It was my own little taste of what a half-time team talk must've felt like from WGS!
Big Bad Bob Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 We have a winner!! Feck me, I had to go back through the saintslist archives to find that......
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 Feck me, I had to go back through the saintslist archives to find that...... Cheat!!!
Big Bad Bob Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 Cheat!!! Are we not allowed to use research material then? I have to ask a question now don't I....I can't actually think of anything hard enough for you boys, can I defer to someone?
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 Thinking of questions is harder than finding answers actually...
Colinjb Posted 18 June, 2013 Author Posted 18 June, 2013 Are we not allowed to use research material then? I have to ask a question now don't I....I can't actually think of anything hard enough for you boys, can I defer to someone? You are not meant to. You get the point though, i'll be lenient. Someone post the next question....
Appy Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 We went 11 years without winning an away game having been behind until 2006, What game was it? and who scored?
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 Burnley 2-3 Saints - Rasiak(2) and Skacel (has he signed yet?)
Appy Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 Burnley 2-3 Saints - Rasiak(2) and Skacel (has he signed yet?) Correct, thought it was fairly easy.
Minty Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 Arsenal, Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Man U and Spurs are the 7 teams who we have played every season we've spent in the Premier League. Name the 8 teams who we have only played against for ONE season whilst in the EPL.
Colinjb Posted 18 June, 2013 Author Posted 18 June, 2013 Wigan, Swindon, Barnsley, Wolves, Watford, Swansea, Stoke. Struggling with the 8th.
Colinjb Posted 18 June, 2013 Author Posted 18 June, 2013 (edited) Name the Southampton Manager(s?) who have played for both Saints and the Skates.... Edited 18 June, 2013 by Colinjb
Colinjb Posted 18 June, 2013 Author Posted 18 June, 2013 Ok, I will make this a bit more specific: Name the only Saints manager who has also played for both Southampton and the skates. Hint: He was the first ex Southampton player to take the job as manager.
Turkish Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 Well Alan ball played for and managed us and managed them and Steve Wigley played for them and managed us. Not sure any managers that have played for both.
Colinjb Posted 18 June, 2013 Author Posted 18 June, 2013 Bally Never played for the Skates... also not the first ex player to become manager.
Turkish Posted 18 June, 2013 Posted 18 June, 2013 Okay I cheated and there is one, is be amazed if anyone other than fitzhugh fella knows the answer though!
Colinjb Posted 18 June, 2013 Author Posted 18 June, 2013 Okay I cheated and there is one, is be amazed if anyone other than fitzhugh fella knows the answer though! Could be an easy point for him!
