Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 Good question that If only I had remembered Kelvin also met the criteria!! ha.
Saint Scott Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Southampton finished 2nd in their first Football League season. Who won it and by how many points did they beat us?
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Southampton finished 2nd in their first Football League season. Who won it and by how many points did they beat us? Palace?
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 Nope. Yeah, just researched it and they formed in the 1939.... and i'm pretty sure Saints joined the league in the early 20's!
Saint Scott Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Palace by 5 points? Correct! Yeah, just researched it and they formed in the 1939.... and i'm pretty sure Saints joined the league in the early 20's! We entered the Football League in 1920-21. The year after Division 3 was split into North and South leagues.
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 What happened to Saints at Rotherham, but then didn't happen to them again for four whole years until it happened again at Leicester?
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 What happened to Saints at Rotherham, but then didn't happen to them again for four whole years until it happened again at Leicester? Saved a penalty?
CB Fry Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 What happened to Saints at Rotherham, but then didn't happen to them again for four whole years until it happened again at Leicester? Concede three away from home?
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Concede three away from home? Not that either. (here's me triple checking I have my facts right here.....)
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 A 3-1 away defeat? No, we lost by that scoreline at Forest come the end of the year.
Saint Scott Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 We were awarded two penalties? Complete guess by the way.
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Clue: It's nothing to do with the score in those matches.
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Clue #2: Both matches were harder than they might have been, but we lost the first and won the second.
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Clue #3: The Rotherham game happened in 2002, the Leicester game in 2006.
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 That Leicester game was a horrible scrappy cup game I believe, finished 0-1. A very last minute winner.
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 That Leicester game was a horrible scrappy cup game I believe, finished 0-1. A very last minute winner. That's indeed true....but the answer isn't "both games were horribly scrappy!"
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 That's indeed true....but the answer isn't "both games were horribly scrappy!" Just trying to find some context.
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Just trying to find some context. Your context is right. In fact, both games were Cup games (obvious really - we wouldn't have been playing Rotehrham in the league in 2002!)
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Marian Pahars managed to play 90 minutes? Nope (well, if that is true by some bizree coincidence, it wasn't the thing I was thinking of!)
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Clue #4: It's related to the fact that neither match was a league game.
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 Both were played on a Wednesday? Really scraping the barrel now!
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Both were played on a Wednesday? Really scraping the barrel now! Nope. Clue #5: It's something to do with "good luck" in the FA Cup - although these matches were both "bad luck"
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 If someone doesn't get this soon, I may have to reveal the answer as I leave in 5 minutes! Clue #6: Think about where the games were played.....
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 (edited) If someone doesn't get this soon, I may have to reveal the answer as I leave in 5 minutes! Clue #6: Think about where the games were played..... Leicester - Walker's Stadium Rotherham - Millmoor No.... still not getting anything. Playing away in the 4th round? Edited 17 June, 2013 by Colinjb
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Leicester - Walker's Stadium Rotherham - Millmoor No.... still not getting anything. Playing away in the 4th round? You're getting warm-ish with your last sentence.
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 Well, it's not getting drawn away in the FA cup as we were away to Northampton in 2005. Truly stumped.
The Cat Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 The only thing I can think of regards the Rotherham game was that it wasn't a replay but was played midweek due to the original game being called off. No idea if the same happened at Leicester. But if it did we would have made the 4th round draw without winning or even playing a game.

I think the Leicester game was called off originally actually....
Right sider Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Went to Millmoor, it was a dump. Horrible terrace.
The Cat Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Went to Millmoor, it was a dump. Horrible terrace. We went into the worst working men's club before. I'm reasonably sure they were selling whippet burgers because we didn't see any whippets all day and as we all know towns like Rotherham are FULL of them.
John Boy Saint Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Helllllooooooo!! Anyone there??..................... Oooooooo must be tea time!
Right sider Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 I think it is just that noone knows the answer.
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 SaintBobby did say he was off.... Hope he comes back soon!
SaintBobby Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 We were drawn away to Rotherham in the FA Cup, it was 4 years before we were drawn away again. To Leicester.
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 We were drawn away to Rotherham in the FA Cup, it was 4 years before we were drawn away again. To Leicester. But we were drawn away to Northampton in the previous year..... (2005)
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 Oops Unless i'm going mad! I'm pretty sure I was at that game. Jamie Redknapp scored in a 0-3 win!!
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 Ok. Quiz reset. Next question posted is live.....
Right sider Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 Against who did Barry Horne score 'that' goal, and who did we play in the next round in the cup?
CB Fry Posted 17 June, 2013 Posted 17 June, 2013 On one exciting day in 1992, Saints did £1.5m worth of transfer business. Who did we buy and from where?
Colinjb Posted 17 June, 2013 Author Posted 17 June, 2013 Sorry CB, Right sider beat you to the punch.
